1. wookie where are you based mate i have a 151 and a traveler 2x10 with a lm3 if your in london your welcome to come and try if you want
2. IMLE i prefer it to having a 6x10 i find that i can get a lot more rumble at lower frequencies without cranking the amp however you do have to be very careful its v easy to fill the room with horrible subby bass noise (this is from watching it being used as well as on stage fyi a mate of mines band supported ours so we just took the one rig)
3. thats nice man i think it is the same bass and someones just dropped new pup's n preamp in mine looks exactly the same
4. Just bought a new rig with IMO is the best of both worlds (and yes i know i'm following the markbass crowd here) but a LM3 with the traveler 2x10 plus then the standard 1x15 that markbass make. (you could replace this with a 4x10 pick your poison ) in short you can take just the LM3 plus the 2x10 to little round town gigs where and it will perform fine but then for the bigger stages add in the extra cab for more volume
my dream rig is actually a modular Markbass 6x10
i think thats what your pretty much talking about right?
5. evening thanks was just checking as thats how i've been shown to set it up
6.
I muted the FOH and let them have another bash at the song.
i do this anyway with my band (i run sound, Dj, oh yeh and i occasionally get to play bass) so the singers are happy are happy with the levels vs the band from the monitors before i turn on the FOH am i doing wrong? sorry if its a bit off topic
7.
I know a guitarist like this now. Does my head in. No idea about dynamics or when to STFU either.
sounds like the guitarist in my band he especially likes playing when people are talking
8. Sorry to hear that mate i'll keep my ear to the ground
9. trust me this is far from a jazz bazz, bartonlini pup's and a john east sounds pretty sweet compared to the jazz bass 5 i traded for this IMHO
10.
Our violin player hitting the stage floor with his chin as he couldn't risk putting his hands out to stop the fall as he was holding his very valuable violin in one and the expensive bow in the other. The crash sent a huuugge thump through the P.A.. and me and the drummer cracked up and the time wavered... When we played back the recording... we cracked up again..!!!
similar situation not strictly a gig. In a LIve performance lesson at uni my flatmate decided it would be very rock and roll to put his foot on the monitor. What he hadn't counted on was that they were wedges and flipped over if you put any weight on them. Needless to say said guitarist and guitar went tumbling off stage landing in the front row of seats into the singing teachers lap. The shriek of the singing teacher could be heard through the 3 inch thick (supposedly) soundproof doors aparently. p.s. it was a pink song so not very rock and roll anyway
11. Qualities not great as i took them on my phone but its quite a pretty bass
12. Hi guys Recently aquired a Bacchus jazz bass from Jc_riffs on here and i'm very happy with it awesome sound and great feel. I've tried doing some digging on the internet about Bacchus basses, however all i can find about them is the basics i know they're from japan and pretty boutiquey. Anyone have any more info on the company? or indeed opinions on basses they've tried? cheers Chris
13. I've noticed that i've become more protective of my gear recently, this is due to me buying a quite nice (and expensive) mark bass rig. I guess in my opinion it all comes down to the value of your rig and how willing you are to see it broken or abused. For example my first decent sized rig was an Ashton 400w head and a 4x10 which i was pretty happy to lend out due to the fact it cost me around £300 for the lot and so wasn't worth much, however now i'm using around £1800 worth of amp i'm a lot more precious about it. As a general rule i don't lend it out to people unless its a personal friend who needs a favour, and still they have to sign an agreement to say if they break it they buy it .
14.
I tried to read what you wrote three times, but I always run out of air when I'm the point where they ask you whether you could stay. Here's some spare punctuation marks for you: ..,..,.,.,.,..,.,.,,,,,,..,,.,,.,.,.,..,.,,,,,.,,,.,.,.,,,.,.,,.,..,.,.,,.,.,.,.,,..... Don't be shy, they're free
sorry mate, i'll try harder next time. Sounds like my school reports all over again.
15.
The more experienced you are, the better your ability to recognise how far away you are from being an expert.
nailed it however how would you define expert? is it being professional? in my opinion being professional is not about being expert at all its about doing the right things consistently so in reality is it neccisary to consider yourself an expert surely as long as your professional standard then is being (or considering yourself to be) an expert that important at the end of the day i would be focused on the amount/quality of the calls your getting? i would hazard that its more than him
16. cheers guys thanks for the advice i'll work through all the stuff n may be back with some more questions but in the mean time cheers
17. Hi guys i've been asked to play synth bass for an artist i'm playing for and i'm looking for a synth to use for bass sounds i love the sounds i can get out of a microkorg however i find that the keys are too small for my fingers anyone have any alternatives that they like the sound of with full size keys? any advice is welcomed
18. personally i think the idea of each of you buying pieces of gear to make up the complete PA system sounds like a good one however the issue is if they want to go out as a duo then they will still want to use all the gear for those gigs maybe if you offer to buy the sub/sub's or something which would be useful as a full band but not really neccisary as a duo? and then everybody keeps their gear when they leave? i think everybody paying their share of the gear and then the guitarist retaining it when you leave is completely unacceptable however i think a written agreement as said above is essential as to how much/ what you get when you leave
19. i find a producer switch works pretty well just say yeh i'll sort that out no worries pretend to fiddle with stuff flipping switches back n forth n so on then continue playing most people will say oh yeh that sounds a lot better even though you havent done anything
20. did an audition for a function band once for some guys and was told in the emails back and forth that i'd be there for about an hour turned up at the audition and was imidiately asked to set up 'great' i thought i'll be in and done quickly and not have to sit around waiting for the other guys to finish, so i get into the audition and play through the songs and all is well the guys are ok not great but ok and as i'm packing away the singer comes up to me and says 'oh do you have to be somewhere after this' and i without thinking said oh no sorry i just thought we were done 'no we'd like you to stay if thats ok' so i put my gear back up and another guitarist comes in and sets up and off we go again turns out they hadn't had any replies from any other bass players and were just expecting me to fill in for free so that they could audition all of their 8 guitarists that had replied needless to say i didnt stay very long after i found out
21. just an alternative opinion on this could you possibly find things for the kids to do when your out on the road i.e. carrying light pieces/inexpensive pieces of kit like mic stands, leads ect and maybe take them under your wing and teach them some stuff or suggest to their parents that they could help out with stuff i've been hanging around bands for as long as i can remember and i was always found things to do which kept me out of trouble and stopped me getting bored and as a happy result i learned A LOT of stuff with the correct supervision of course from the reallities of being in a band how to run live sound, how to operate lighting ect of course this will take a little more of your time but may avoid some potentially nasty arguments down the line n hey you may even find that you enjoy teaching them stuff tbh it doesn't sound like you can change the fact that their there so you may as well get some benefits from them being there? sorry if this has already been said i only breifly skimmed through this thread
22. apa give me a pm when its avaliable n we'll sort something out
23. hey guys so i recently traded for a Bacchus jazz bass on here and at the moment it has a clear pickguard on it. One of my friends suggested that it might look pretty cool with a black one on it which started me thinking. i've offered up a four string jazz pickguard against it and this seems to be a pretty good fit however obviously the pick-up hole and the slot for the neck aren't big enough, does anyone know of anywhere that sells 5 string jazz pickguards? any ideas apreciated cheers chris
