3. hi mate saw this thread and spoke to Richard Lightman (http://www.richardlightman.com/) about it and this is the model he suggested as its the one he uses http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hitachi-G-Drive-7200-2xFW-eSata/dp/B002RAXM9W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1343046572&sr=8-1
4. good tool to arm yourself with is a little portable decibel reader about £30 from Maplin this make it appear that your on the same side as the management and means your more effectively able to control your sound levels and play within the rules that have been forced upon you by the little box of hell on the wall, unfortunately the nature of a drum kit means that your likely to set it off at some point in the night as most to my knowledge are set at around 90dB whereas a loud hit on a snare drum can be up to 120dB so its a bit of a non starter anyway. 5.
or as a suggestion to make money?
Tbf my Nan seems to do pretty well from it i'm sure she's conning the rest of the old people
6. no worries mate something I know about so glad to help
7.
I believe Am Dram players do get paid more often than not, perhaps some Equity arrangement or something? Perhaps Seashell can advise.
in my experience am dram players dont get paid to perform as a rule however if the company is lacking a key person i.e. a leading man then maybe they might encourage someone to step into the role, however having done a lot of am dram and youth theatre stuff as a musician i get paid at least expenses for the shows depending on the budget for the show the pay can be quite lucrative which is far from the norm as apart from the theatre staff nobody else gets paid normally (director, choreographer, stage manager, stage crew ect...)
8.
i'd rather not do the freebie, i can't justify loosing the cash and the fact that everyone is getting paid pisses me off
I think maybe another way to look at it is that of course its nice not to loose money on gigs but sometimes you have to take a hit if your benefiting in other ways for example bar staff are not likely to pick up other jobs from working their shift at the venue however there is a chance (how much of a chance is up to you to weigh up) that there will be someone there who wants to book you for another gig be that another musician on stage on the gig or an audience member the trick is to not do so many free gigs that it becomes unsustainable but to do just enough to keep your name on everyone's lips and to pick and choose the venues you play at to better target the circles of people you want to enter to gain more possibly better/paid gigs
9. the only way you will get paid for doing something like this is if you are willing to do it for free I take every situation on its merits. I'm not adverse to doing the odd gig for free, however I'm not a mug if I agree to do something for free I make sure I'm getting something else out of it. Be it playing with a new group of musicians, decent photographs if there's someone taking pictures or maybe even a favour to call in further down the line just because your not getting paid for a gig doesn't mean your not benefiting from it
10. ah thanks liam sorry getting my wires crossed but yeh some triple driver in ear headphones would be a lot cheaper option and in my experience dont have that much problem cancelling out exterior noise
11. another vote for the acs t1's they're great and incredibly clear right down to a low b however if your on a little bit of a budget you cant go wrong with something like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shure-SE535-V-EFS-Sound-Isolating-Earphones/dp/B003S3RD7O/ref=pd_sim_ce_7 they're triple driver like the acs in ears but about a 3rd of the price
12. cool thanks guys if you would like me to email you the transcription i have of it then feel free to give me a pm with your email adress in and i'll email it over to you. 13. not sure about looping but audacity has the function to slow stuff down without changing the pitch you can find it for windows or mac here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
14. not sure i noticed that however its playing for me ok (its not my soundcloud)
15. yeh i see what you mean however the idea was that i was doubling the synth part to make it meatier as the key bass part sounds quite thin on the track but hey ho its not my music so oh well
16. na just a session job mate of mine runs a studio so i get called in regularly to play on stuff for his clients
17. na thats how i play slap bass mate yeh trouble is i didnt write it n just got played it in the studio n told to play it took about 20 takes

19. Had a couple of near misses on the motorway including a birk drifting into my lane on the M25 resulting in me braking heavily and my 2x10 smacking the back of my seat needless to say if i'm just carrying my 2x10 now i leave the seats up and put it in the boot and strap basses and stuff down with seatbelts
20. Thanks guys again some stuff to think about tbh i'm not too worried about my gear being stolen from my car as i have separate gear insurance anyway to cover me in that eventuality, however i have heard of a friend who's drums got smashed pretty badly in a car accident and the other parties insurance company paid for old for new replacements (i guess they're not all bad)
21. I guess the fact that i live in London won't please them too much either then
22. Hi guys bit of a random one but this thought popped into my head since next year i'll be finishing my degree and entering the perilous world of trying to make a living from music. Do i have to insure my car as business & social rather than just social since this is the main form of transport to gigs and that's where my main income is coming from? from what i can make out there's two schools of thought on this either that no its no different to taking your car to work with you every day and working in a factory or yes its the same as a builders van that he uses to get from job to job thoughts?
23. "The managers are aware that it is quite difficult to find female musicians who the bass. If you have any musical background or even own one of these instruments and are ready to get to the top we are willing to cooperate and try it out with you" This is the bit that amuses me basically you don't even have to be a able to play bass to join this band sounds like a highly professional outfit to me
24.
I found that knowing some tunes that use an interval as part of a main melody e.g. for a fifth, try the first two notes of the star wars theme!
We have to do an ear training module at Tech music school and we're taught exactly that approach to associate intervals with key phrases in songs we know well the above example is a good one major 6th is the first two notes of "my bonnie lies over the ocean" and a major 2nd is the 1st and 2nd notes of happy birthday although its good to figure out your own for these as they're the songs you'll know best a good website i used when studying for exams is http://www.good-ear.com/
