  1. I use a Hartke HD50 combo for these types of gigs. It's got a built in limiter which is what persuaded me to get it, very smooth with an active bass.
  2. You should definitely try a Tecamp Puma 900 (if you can find one) or the EICH equivalent. I had the same problem as you, still have my Trace but it's just too heavy - I also have an ELF but that is not what you are after. I use Vanderkley cabs for what it's worth.
  3. Thanks, I only play 4 so will check out
  4. Yep, Warwick Thumb with piezos. There are dots on the side of the neck but tbh I find myself losing them less and less, it's all about coming up to the note rather than going straight for it (i.e. I'm not very good )
  5. It's the fanned frets I mean, are any non-fanned?
  6. Eddie Jackson and Rachel Bolan got stellar tones on million sellers from Spectors, listen to the Empire album from Quensryche. But NOTE - Doug Wimbish is a Spector afficcionado....
  7. Wait for a 2nd hand Euro or Rebop, the Rebops are criminally underrated just because they're bolt-on..... Legends are good basses but not as good as you could get for that money.
  8. Are they all Dingwall-like?
  9. Fair comment, I got lucky with one of the great ones, can't understand how its so playable for a £200 bass but then again I've been playing since 1985 and we weren't so spoiled then!
  10. 2nd hand you might pick up a Squier Affinity?
  11. Showstopper for sure. I'm going to get the cabs next.
  12. I use a Hartke HD50 for foldback, does the trick for me.
  13. I got a 4 string Jabba recently, it's very impressive, I play it for hours

Oh wow, saw that online and what a price!! I t's my birth year and I was tempted but you beat me to it - enjoy!
  15. Multicomp colours the sound - in a good way IMO - but some will prefer something more transparent, I have a Multicomp and a SuperSymmetry to give me both options.
  16. That's really interesting. I switched from Aguilar to Tecamp specifically because the Tecamp had some character to it and gives out a great 80's tone (I play in an 80s covers band) - the Aguilar seemed too neutral to me, horses for courses I guess....
  17. Cort are doing some tasty budget basses at the moment
  18. A 2nd hand Musicman Stingray HH or HS would do? Maybe a Bongo?
  19. That brings back some memories
  20. Not sure, however I started on the old guitar one back in the 80s (before the bass ones came out) and it sucked the bottom end out totally. The advent of the bass one (the brown and gold one was my first) got rid of that problem. The current CEB3 is the best yet, I wouldn't migrate to the CE5 personally.
  21. Always good to go minimal for a while, concentrate on your tone from your fingers
  22. Can't beat the CEB-3, been using one, or the predecessor, for decades.
  23. OMG I was fascinated by this bass when I was a kid - it seemed like the perfect design. Is it as versatile as you might think?
