1. I just had mine delivered 10/31/12. I wanted to get the Candy Cola / Maple for a while. It sounds great I love it. Best of luck with yours.
2. The Mexican Precision is close to the Am. Std. I do like the High Mass bridge on the Am. Std., and other differences also. I would use the Seymour Duncan SPB-3 Quarter-Pound pup for a replacement. I had one on a Roger Waters Precision Bass. Great sound.
3. I recently bought a 2012 Am. Std. Precision. I really did some serious looking, and comparing the finished detail. When I saw the quality consistency of the Am. Std.'s around town, I ordered my Candy Cola Precision, since there were no Candy Cola in any store stock. I received it on 10/31/12 in perfect condition. The neck, and the fretboard are great. Frets are fitted to the board, with no sharp edges. A good job on the rounded edges on the fretboard also. Set up on my Precision is right on as well. The CS 60"s pup sounds great. If I was unable to play the Am. Std. Precision, I would get a Mexican made, Roger Waters Precision. A great Fender Bass. Best of luck on your quest.
4. Hi leevdb, Nice gear man. I'm a former Roadie, and I totally agree with your view on bringing your own gear to gigs.
5.
I wouldn't worry about the made in China thing - these guys are making some scarily good quality products. As someone who's owned many a GK amp, if that's the sound you like then go with the GK. As soon as I get the cash together I will be selling my Hartke LH500 and going back to GK as its the only amp that can give me my sound.
I did what you are saying you want to do. I changed out a Hartke LH500 head, for the GK 700RB-ll head. The LH500 was fine. It just wasn't the sound the GK 700RB-ll puts out. I'm sold on GK heads. Best of luck with your move.
6. I don't know how the new style Gibsons will perform. But I do like the Grabber 3 '70s Tribute.
7. I used the Marshall MBC410, and the Acoustic B410, and recently settled in with the Ampeg SVT-410HLF. I like it, and sounds great. It has a better rating than the SVT-610HLF.
8. I'm finding the 12" radius fretboard on a Gibson bass is more comfortable for my playing. I used a G&L SB-2 with a 7.5" board, and didn't like it. The Fender 9.5" board was better than the G&L. With the 12" Gibson board being flatter, It's just a bit cleaner moving around on the board. I get to the next notes without the frets being in the way as much.
9. I've had the 3 point on SG Standards, and now on a Grabber 3 with no problems. Intonation is right on also.
10. I'm using the GK 700RB-ll, with an Ampeg SVT410HLF. My cab is 85 pounds. For me the head is worth every ounce, or what ever weight measurement you go by. I'd stick with the GK 700RB-ll.
11. I bought the Gallien-Krueger 700RB MKll head, to go with my Ampeg SVT-410HLF cab. A great amp. It powers the Ampeg very good.
12. I playing through a Hartke LH500. I have the mids set at about 1.5
13. An EKO from 1969.

15. D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewound Strings. Available for both 4, and 5 string basses.
16. Another plus for the G&L SB2 Tribute, it has a great bridge on it from the factory. No need to switch out the bridge.
17. I had a SB-2 American made up for me a couple of years ago. A Great bass. Very under rated brand of guitars in general.
18. I never cared for the Maple with black blocks. I do like a Baked Maple with Pearl inlays however.
19. I had a 2012 Jazz before going back to a Gibson SG Std. $50.00 higher in price. The CS pups, that's about it. The quality however was flawless on it.
20. Thank you, I like the feel of the neck, and the tone it puts out. I use one bass, so I spent the extra bucks on the Heritage Cherry. It reminds me of a Gibson EB0 I had in 1970. The D'Addario ETB92S Nylon Tapewound Strings are strung on the SG Std., and they sound great. A good smooth mellow tone, and a big bottom sound. 22. My Gibson SG Std. / Heritage Cherry came in on May 22. It's a great looking, and sounding bass. I'm playing it through a Hartke LH500 head, and an Acoustic B410 cab. When the D'Addario ETB92S Nylon Tapewound strings come in, it should really be set.
23. I recently paired up a GK 700RB ll head, with an Ampeg SVT-410HLF cab. My Fender Am. Std. Precision sounds very good through it.
24. I was trying some other cabs with the Hartke LH500 head. So far, for price and the tone I like with my Jazz, the Acoustic B410 is doing good for me. If I was gigging though, I would seriously be considering the Markbass amps.
25. The 60's pups sound good on the 2012 Am. Std. Jazz. They did go up in price, $50.00. I really like the Jazz I bought.
