1. You should give the D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewounds a shot. They're sound is a flat string sound.
2. From what I've been told, The Hercules doesn't have the chemicals in the foam that damages a nitro finish.
3. I 've had a few Precisions with both Maple, and Rosewood. I think they are very close in sound. I believe the strings make more of a difference in sound, than the board's wood.
4. Nice looking Midnight Blue.
5. I'm glad I was able to do the deal on my 4003 when I did. Any other time in the past never worked out, cash wise. I love it.
6. My Christmas Bass showed up two weeks ago. Thanks Santa.
7. That's a crank having to wait for your bass to get to the right shop for delivery. What board did you go with, Maple, or Rosewood? An Am. Std., Olympic White is a solid Fender color. When your bass gets in, best of luck with it. I think you made a good choice with the Am. Std.
8. I recently switched over to the Ampeg SVT-7PRO with no regrets. The tone is great, ample power, and the settings are simple to set.
9.
You know, I really must have a go on a Rikky before I die....
I do like the sound of the 4003 Rickenbacker going through the Ampeg. The neck, and 10" radius board play great also.

11. My 4003 is strung with nylon tapewounds, love the sound I get from it.
12.
Hi, I have just purchased a new 2012 4003 mapleglo, i have been playing rics for 34 years and the new ones are just the best ever 2012 model!! fit&finish is 10/10, tone is awesome for a brand new Rickenbacker, i can not recommend a new one enough, you will pay £1200 for a decent used one, i got a good deal on my new one and was only £300 more than a used one so i would buy new that way you have a mint instrument no one else has played, my favourite 4003 was a 1999 jetglo, this new one sounds as good, just shop around and make sure you play the bass before you buy. good luck.
I'll second that about the 2012 4003 Rickenbacker. After 43 years playing bass, I did the 4003 Mapleglo. Mine is great, it's a first week in Sept. manufacture, 4003.
13. I had a problem with D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewound strings silk extending to low into the nut slot on a Fender Am. Std. I sent off an e-mail to them about it. They e-mailed me back in about 20 minutes. They asked for the length of the string from the ball end to where the string first contacts the nut. They remedied the issue in a very short time. They stand behind their strings.
14. Hi Highfox; It's good to hear another player liking their 4003 as much as I like mine. Congrats. I'm in the group of 2012 4003 owners also. I went for a Mapleglo 4003. I just like the way it sounds. and plays. I went with D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewound strings. I hope you didn't mind the pic of my "Windy". 15.
Oh My! Sweet Mother of Jesus! Beautiful
Gorgeous Rickenbacker you have. What type of strings do you have strung on it?
16. The 2012 4003 Rickenbacker, has the Vintage setting on the bridge pup tone knob. Down is standard, pulled up is the Vintage setting position. The .105 "E" Nylon string on mine, matches the fit from the Rickenbacker factory .105 "E" string.
17. I compared the price of the Fender Select Jazz, or Precision to the Rickenbacker 4003. I like the 4003 better, and at that price of the 4003, it's $350.00 less than the Fender Select.
18. Here's the fit with the nylons. .50 .65, .85, .105
19. I was able to use the nylon strings from my Fender American Standard, to the Rickenbacker 4003. The "A" string was the only one that was close on the wrappings on the machine head post. I usually trim strings a bit longer when I restring. It doesn't hurt anything, so why not. The 4003 scale is actually 33.5 inches, as to the Fender's 34 inches. I also strung through the body on the Fender. That added a bit to the string length also.
20. I just picked up a 2012, 4003. I never really took the time to play one, and really closely look one over until recently. My Fender Precision played well, but I liked the sounds, and the feel of the 4003 better. This was made the first week of Sept., 2012.
21. My D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewounds are a good fit in the nut slots on my 2012 4003. .50, .65, .85, .105
22. You may have to do some enlargements on the nut slots. Standard string gauges from the factory are, .45, 55, 75, .105.
23.
Cheers gsgbass, yea gets me annoyed, esp when you get some idiot, who just brings his bass and nothing else and has the expectant look on his face. FAIL!
I go back to your sound through your amps, not through the PA. We watched over, and guarded the gear like it was ours. You keep your gear as your gear sir. Bravo.
24. The Maple really does set off the Sky Blue. A beautiful Precision.
