Hey Eude, In answer to your questions; 1. No switching simply that in the way the power section works there isn't a noticable drop in power from 4 ohms to 8 ohms(it confused us at first too) This will be great for anyone wanting to use a single 8 ohm cab. 2. We are actually throwing around a couple of ideas at the moment involving the all valve preamp from the 427 Smallblock head so will keep you posted ;-) Hope this helps!
Brilliant, thanks for clearing that up. In response to your answer to question 2, if you require any additional hands on testing, I'd be more than happy to help out Cheers, Eude
ok, so the Genz Benz sounds like a contender. I know the markbass amps all sound pretty ace, and I have never used any Genz Benz stuff, so Im still swaying in Markbass' direction. Hmmmmm I need to get my hands on these amps for some direct comparisons.....
The regular MarkBass LittleMark tone is gorgeous, quite warm and organic naturally and can do hi-fi quite nicely too. As much as the tone appeals to me, I'm not sure if it would be my first choice for heavy rock, especially if you're used to the Ampeg sound. Not sure about the Rocker, however I have heard the the LittleMark Tube sounds almost exactly the same as the regular one. Just my 2p Eude
Evening Chaps, Just thought I should jump in and clear up a couple of points here. First of all the MiBass has been a long time in the making and we have waited until we could source a power section that we felt could deliver the goods properly, often in the past the power section has always been the weak link in the chain in any class D amp. The power amp that we are using in the MiBass blew us away in testing and is much more warm and powerful than any class D poweramp we have used in the past and also has handled anything we could throw at it during months of soak/play testing. The front end is an evolution of the Little Giant preamp with a few nips and tucks under the hood, yes it isn't fully parametric but the controls do all interact with one another hence us describing it as semi parametric, we will however now simply describe it as an interactive eq if this will make people happier ;-) We think that its a great pre amp and offers a huge range of tones that can be shaped very quickly, deep bassy dub tones up to bright slap happy sounds no need for filter knobs or limiters, We had great positive feedback from the guys who tried it last week at the Musik Messe but would urge that you hang fire on opinions until you can actually try one in a shop first. Finally the optional front panels.... Wow this seems to have stirred opinion! We have done lots of custom amps and cabinets over the years in different colours and finishes at the requests of artists and often regular gigging Joes who want something a bit special and more personal. We thought with the MiBass due to the way the front panel is an overlay it would be nice to offer people the chance to either pick their own colour for the front or design their own incorporating band logos or whatever they fancied. The key point to make here that this is optional and if you don't want to change anything then you don't have... Thanks guys been interesting reading peoples opinions, any more queries just ask.
Thank you very much for chiming and taking the time to clear up a few of the points. Not many manufacturers, especially the big boys, make the effort to contribute to forums like this one, but it is always appreciated Looking forward to trying one of these out when they appear in the shops, however I have a couple of further questions if you'll indulge me. 1. How does the 4 Ohm/8 Ohm switching work? 2. Any chance of you slapping in the dual tube front end in this in the future? Cheers, Eude
I don't suppose they're counting on selling many of these high-end sig models. I guess they value them for the profile they bring to the brand, but I dunno - I'm no business expert! Btw, there is an interesting thread on TB, starting with a long statement from Steve Bailey about his sig models: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f28/steve-ba...-fender-759381/
Maybe you're right dude, but at that price they're guaranteeing they won't sell many, bar to overpaid Warwick fan boys. I guess they might do a Korean made version, like they have with most of the other basses, so that might get it into a more reasonable price point... Thanks for pointing out that TalkBass thread, really interesting reading Eude
Just had a watch of this... the opening salvo? You can change the front panel! Also, to paraphrase part of it: 'This has a warmth that isn't really familiar to other class D amps.... amplifiers like this normally have one trick.... we've tried to make this more versatile than others...' They've got their heads in the sand.
To be fair, the man from Ashdown couldn't have looked more nervous, gave a fairly wobbly interview, but you're right they really need to think about how they're marketing this, and it may already be too late! Changeable front panels is the norm with £10 Pay (through the nose) As You Go phones these days, they should just make the colour an option when you order it and that should be the end of it! Why oh why do they not focus on the B&O power section and the fairly obvious high build quality?! The pricing is about right on these, but I fear they won't be in line with the current competition and I doubt they'll be all that popular if it's the tried and tested (read same old) ABM/MAG front end. I really hoped that they would try and do something like this but with the front end from their new Valve series which is apparently the dogs danglers... Oh well. Eude Eude
From a photo taken at the Frankfurt show, it looks like the RRP is a mere 6749 euros.
Wow! Well at least they're being consistent with their crazy pricing structure! How on earth is that bass worth that much!? Don't see this selling all that well then... Eude
And what odd decision is that? If I recall correctly, it was Stu who went to Washburn for a bass. Fender have done the Urge II tenth anniversary bass and the Urge was their first signature bass. Stu and Fender's relationship goes all the way back to when Fender bought Kubicki in the late 80's. Stu had been playing a Washburn acoustic bass since the late 90's/early 00's and built contacts in the company who offered him a new signature model. Stu started playing that and moved away from Fender. Please correct me if I am wrong, as I recall reading what Stu had written about how he got his new bass but it's possibly my nightshift hazed brain is remembering things incorrectly. As for Stu's new Washburn bass, it sounds incredible but I don't like the looks at all.
I read in an interview, the UK Bass Mag I think, that Fender called Stu up to tell him that they were stopping making the Urge, which is why he moved everything over to Washburn, however he seems very very happy with his new bass. Washburn have allowed him to do whatever he wanted for the news bass, something that I get the impression Fender are a bit funny about. So I guess it's smiles all round Eude
Flea's another that pops into my head for example. The guy used a 'ray into GK for a long time and that was his trademark sound, then he seemed to get bored and start swapping about basses on whims. It must be incredibly frustrating for a company like Modulus to make a bass that they even name after an endorsee, then they jump ship soon after.
From what I remember, Flea only jumped ship from Musicman for his touring basses because they wouldn't make him a graphite necked signature model. I'm not sure that seed was planted/helped along by Modulus, but he apparently struggled with the necks of his Stingrays shifting a lot when on tour, probably a combination of how fiercely he attacks his basses and the punishing tour schedules the Chilli's used to do.
I don't think the Stingray was ever really his trademark sound. Obviously he is associated with that bass because of it's live use,but a lot of his most well known stuff was not played on a Stingray. In the studio he used all kinds of instruments-notably Spector,Wal and Alembic.
You're right dude, Flea never really did much recording with his Stingrays, especially after they got a little bigger and got proper recording budgets, however you rarely saw him with anything but a Stingray anywhere else, he was a pretty good endorsee for Musicman... I know he defo used a Wal for Blood Sugar Sex Magik, which has some of the nicest bass tones ever on it, and an Alembic Epic, I think, for One Hot Minute. Eude
If Fender don't like it, they shoudl have made him a better offer. I am always a little suspect of these kinds of endorsements. Wal never have endorsees, only people who buy the damn things. THe process has far more integrity that way. If Geddy has a Wal, its because he wanted a Wal and bought one. Speaks volumes. WHy does Jeff Berlin, the 'greatest bass player in the world', only ever get cheap and nasty basses made for him? Is it because he is not a household name? I think so
I know what you mean, but to be fair to Mr. Bailey, he has been spotted playing Warwicks out in the wild a lot over the last 10 years or so, ones that he has bought himself too, so I reckon he's earned this one. Interesting to see he's getting to use his signature Seymour Duncan pickups and electronics in this bass too, I think the Fender bass was just a compromise too far. I wonder what amazing price point Warwick will pluck out of the sky for this one...
I've just put in an order for a GK MB Fusion and 2 NEO212s. I was playing with them at LBGS and they really blew me away, I wasn't expecting a lot as they're designed more around weight and price (and size for the head and to a certain extent the cabs) than the artist series that is designed with no compromises for sound but I was genuinely shocked at just how good they are. For a full rig at around the £1500 price mark new, you get 2 2x12 cabs, a 2 channel valve preamp and 500w of power that weighs about 125lbs and sounds amazing.
Awesome dude. I really really like the look of that Fusion head. I wonder how it compares to the Genz Benz Streamliner in terms of sound, the Bass Whisperer test of the GB on Youtube sounds incredible! Looking forward to hearing how you get on Eude

These ones look very nice... Fusion Gig Bags I have a custom leather bag from here >> Probag It's the dogs bits and wasn't pricey, £135 all in a couple of years ago. Not sure how they work out now, but it's the nicest gig bag I've ever owned, and probably seen! Eude EDIT: Should've been £135 all in, not $135, that was including shipping, tax etc.

D.
Cheers matey Your bass, and Scoops "Lazarus" have both been a huge source of inspiration for this build. I very nearly almost went with an ebony top, but the wenge back, I hope, will be very similar to yours, albeit the other way round Eude
Should be a stunner, Eude! That's quite a lovely bit of ziricote for the top, and it should look great combined with the ash and wenge.
Thanks Mike! I'm so very very excited about this bass, just wish I could go to sleep for several months and wake up to a finished bass! Eude

WOW! That looks absolutely incredible mate! Well done Eude
That's going to be a lovely bass, Eude. By Classic, I take it you mean it'll have the standard lower horn as opposed to the Recurve shaped one which Alan also offers. (See, just flexing my mighty ACG-ness knowledge there. Ahem...) At least you're letting us in on the build with this one rather than just pulling it completly finished out of Alan's hat like you did with the Dirty Ash one. Good boy! Ziricote's a good wood that's not often seen. I used to have a Warmoth with a Ziricote 'board. Bloody lovely it was too. Nice one, Eude.
Yeah, I thought I should be a little less selfish with this one I love reading other folks build threads, I thought I'd better share mine. Glad you like the Ziricote, as you know I was considering Ebony, but the choice of Ebonies (spelling?) was baffling and I kept coming back to a Ziricote topped Elrick that just looks incredible, so I badgered Alan into getting hold of some. Not easy to do as it turned out, but the piece he managed to get is incredible, exactly what I had in my mind! Apparently Ziricote is commonly reffed to as Mexican Ebony... Eude

Well, having sold on my ol' Shuker 6 string, I'm using the proceeds to help fund a new ACG! The idea is to create a very compact, very easy playing and dang sexy 6 string bass with a nice range of sounds from modern to very traditional. Here's the run down on the specs >> 6 string Skelf SC Bolt-On Construction 33" Scale 16.5mm bridge spacing 52mm nut width Body Medium-weight Ash Body Ziricote Top with Black Veneer Wenge Back with Black Veneer Neck 5 piece Wenge/Sycamore Neck (very slim bits of Sycamore to create a "pinstripe" effect) Fretted Ebony fingerboard no radius Ziricote Cap on the front of the headstock, Wenge Cap on the rear Hardware 2 ACG SB Pickups (in yet to be determined locations, some research required me thinks) East U Retro with Passive Tone Black Hipshot Hardware Through Body Stringing on B String Single Battery Box Here's a quick pic of the Ziricote Will sort out pics of all the other bits once they're sorted. Very very excited about all this Eude
Cheers guys. Glad to be part of the backline! Your right Eude; The build is better than I had expected too.. Taken out of the enclosure, the amp head looks great sitting on top of anything. Makes this so versatile ! My old Ashdown was pretty awesome too, but the Promethean is easing the pain. My extension cab arrives soon. Just wanted to get it incase they sell out, and I get a larger gig venue.. Do you play with a full band when using the stand alone combo ? How do you rate the 'Vibe control' ? D
I've gotten away with just the combo in smallish pub gig, about 100 people, with 2 vocalists, 2 acoustic guitars through a 250W PA and a drummer with a full kit, it wasn't even at 50% volume! I've also used it at a couple of bigger venues, as an on stage monitor using the DI out to feed the PA, I was told to turn it down as it was interfering with the front of house sound I don't really use the vibe control to be honest, but it works very much like the VFL and VLE controls on the MarkBass gear combined, not quite as slick, but it certainly makes a difference, kinda like a powerful passive tone control. I tend to just boost the bass a bit and leave everything else flat I really hope they don't sell out of the extension cabs, can't afford one just now... Eude
