1. Exciting! Man, you'll have to give up your job, just to play all yer basses! Eude
 2. Man this bass is going to rock! Can't wait to see the finished item Eude
 3.
I really do want to have a proper listen to a prometheon, I still have a bit of a mental block about them being Ibanez in my head - even after all the good reviews!
It felt like a bit of a shot in the dark for me when I got mine, especially when moving from a tried and tested MarkBass-Aguilar setup, however it was the only thing that was in my price range that had everything I needed at the size I required. At the end of the day, you can always return stuff if it's not what you expected. I have to say though, the Promethean gear is really high quality, I admit i was very pleasantly surprised at just how solid the little combo is Eude
 4.
Shamelessly nicked from Talkbass, here's the new tilt-back cab... which can also be ordered as a combo: I like the idea of the combo for bigger gigs...
Glad to see they've not come out with anything too radically different, hate having out of date gear Eude
 5. Aye, thought you'd like them Eude
 6.
erm. haven't violins and standups always had heavily radiused boards?
Indeed they have. I meant that radiused boards on guitars, classical guitars, at least ones that more recently predate leccy guitars, where flat, and the radiused boards came along not long after. Eude
 7.
I suppose I should revisit my nylon strung guitar and have a think about how the flat board relates to hand position...
If something's comfy, brilliant, if it's not, try something else Have you got a flat board on any of your basses then? Eude
 8. Personally, I'm a flat fingerboard convert. My Shuker 6 string has a 20" radius and my newer ACG 5 string is flat. I'm so impressed with how the flat board feels, I don't think I'll ever change from that now. You can of course get marginally lower action, but I guess you can close with most well thought out necks. I'm not sure how it'll work with a shallow/thin neck, as it would very much feel like a plank of wood as you say, but with an asymmetrical neck shape it feels right. Also, on a extended range bass, it certainly makes sense, as it brings the lower register strings closer to your fingers. I've played a fair few flat 4 strings too and they felt fine, really comfy, however having played 5 and 6 string basses for so long with my tiny wee hands, pretty much anything with 4 strings feels like putting on nicest comfiest slippers in the world to me now, regardless of the spec. Another thing to consider is that radiused boards only came about to make chord shapes, predominantly bar chords, more comfortable to play, so at least initially, it wasn't really relevant for bass, depending on how you play, or what you're used to. I guess it's just one of those marmite things. Eude

Or did I dream that
The Mustang had it's own baby Precision style pickup, the Musicmaster, I ain't sure as it was under a plastic case hiding the pole pieces, but I'm pretty sure the cheapy Squier Bronco ships with a strat pickup, which is usually the first thing to go when folks start modding.
I don't really notice any difference switching between my 35" scale 5 string and my other 34" basses.
Body design and the location of the bridge can make a huge difference to that. Have a look at the RIM basses with the fancy fishtail bout, that moves the bridge to almost behind the bass body, which in turn moves the nut closer to the player. I've had a shot on a various 35 and 36 inch basses and the biggest stretch I can remember was on a 35 inch Spector, felt like a 40 inch scale because of the bridge location! Just my 2p Oh and Jon will make you an awesome bass, regardless of the specs. My other 2p Eude
 11.
As per another thread on here, the dude from My Chemical Romance is now playing a Mustang, I imagine that would ensure a fair few sales to teens who can't afford £700 for a Japanese reissue! I've noticed quite a few players using Mustangs of late. I keep thinking about modding a Bronco but they just don't feel right to me, obviously they aren't going to compare with a Mustang, but again it's like that noticeable difference between an Affinity Precision and a CV one.
Yeah, they did a bass for the Fall Out Boy guy didn't they, and he's not exactly a bassist's bassist, wonder if they sold many... So, Plan B... Looks like I'll need to find an "OK" Bronco before I start, as I gather the quality is fairly variable. Then it'll get a refinish, or at least a matching headstock, maybe even a vintage style lacquer to the neck and fingerboard, through body stringing, mustang hardware, bridge, control plate, pickguard, vintage style tuners, and then either a proper mustang pickup or perhaps a hot ass Bill Lawrence twin rail pickup... Of course, this might all add up to about the same cost as a proper Mustang, so who knows what'll happen. Cheers, Eude
 12.
I emailed Squier last year and they said there was no plans to produce a VM or CV shortscale. Sadly, my powers of persuasion got me nowhere on that one.
Such a shame, but I appreciate, it has to make financial sense for them, as they're really getting these basses out at a very good price point. Oh well, looks like I'll be modding a Bronco, maybe later this year... At least it has the right shape of headstock, for the proper tuners, and it's the same body shape as a Mustang/Musicmaster, so you can use their pickguards, bridges etc. which are fairly readily available, albeit from the US, as far as I can see. Cheers, Eude
 13.
+ 1 Something like the vista series musicmasters, but with a thin finish would be good, but a squier mustang bass in Daphne blue at a similar price to the jags in this thread would be even better
Think it might be the more bespoke components and smaller (pardon the pun, I'm only 5 foot 6 myslef) target audience that could be preventing this happening for now, most of the Squier range share parts with sibling models in some way or another. I bet the Mustang style pickup is one of the biggest hurdles, but if they replaced it with something else, would it still be a Mustang?... If they did pull it off, it might end up too expensive Love the look of those Vista Musicmasters, very nice! If they don't do something soon, I guess I'll just have to get a Bronco and have someone a lot more talented then myself mod it to taste. Eude
 15.
As Lord High-Master of Things Squier - I'd say that you can put your hand on your thigh and get a skin graft faster than these will hit the used market.
Well Lord High-master of Things Squier, any chance you can get Squier to do a VM Mustang or Musicmaster Bass? Pretty please?... Eude
 16.
The list prices are Pro series start around £900 The signatures are about £1500
Thanks bud. Hmmm, still a bit pricey me thinks. I would have thought they would try to compete more in the Ibanez price range with this lot. Still, sexy beasts nonetheless! Eude
 17.
The Artist Series are Korean built versions of the actual German built signatures at a lower price point. The Pro-Series are again Korean built basses at a lower price than the German built but still using the genuine MEC pickups/electrics etc. Also of interest - click amplification, they are changing the whole range!
Wonder what kinda price they'll be....
 18. Why oh why do Squier not bring out a VM Shortscale of some description?!!!! Or even just a higher quality shorty than the little Bronco... I'd be on it like an aggressive moss! Eude
 19.
I might be being very slow here but are warwick doing a cheaper version of the signature models? i can see Artist Series and Signature Series. If they are, I quite fancy the cheaper P-Nut signature, a streamer with a musicman pickup will be great fun.
Was about to ask the same question. Seems they're doing maple necked bolt on versions of quite a few of the sig models. Anyone? Bueller?... Eude
 20.
I find D'addadrio sound similar, but yes, feel a whole lot different. If I was to put XL nickels on my bass, the truss rod would need tightening as a result. I love the Sunbeams, am looking forward to trying Fatbeams on a recommendation. How are the Low riders?
Hey man, I find them quite like SunBeams but a bit more aggressive, slightly tighter too, but nothing like the D'addadrio's... If you like the SunBeams, definitely worth a punt Eude
 21. I've found the D'Addorio XL Nickels and SIT Nickels to be the closest to DR Sunbeams and Nickel Lo-Riders, they can be similar in tone, however the feel is radically different. The come close, but no cigar, unfortunately... I buy my DR's from the states via ebay, usually ends up about £25 for a 5er set and less than £30 for a 6er, including shipping, the only pain is the wait, but it's never been longer than a week. I do feel bad about not patronising a local or even British music store but bass string prices in the UK are a total joke! I used to pay over £50 for DR Hi-Beams for my 6er years back, and they're not much cheaper now over 10 years on - insane... Eude
 22. Thanks for that dude! Those Grooveline basses look really interesting, love the headstock, not entirely sure about the body, but I'll reserve judgment till I actually have a go on one. Really like the basic ATK Basses too. The originals were amazing! Glad to see they haven't revamped the Promethean line, hate having gear that's out of date Eude
 23. Just a quick note, I played a gig on the 28th, to about 300/400 folks using a 15" kickback combo for stage monitoring (well known brand) and as soon as the "live" sound kicked in, I couldn't hear a thing and had to rely on the wedge monitors entirely to hear myself - really missed the power and clarity of my wee Promethean... I think, at least if you're considering using the amp for stage monitoring, I'd avoid going for a single 15", simply just not punchy enough to be heard above everything else... My other 2p Eude
 24.
I'm in the market for a small cab/ combo. Been looking at the promethean as well, is it reliable, I use quite a lot of distortion etc, I assume by the amount of strings you use it can definitely handle the lows at a high volume!!
I've not had any problems at all dude. Both my basses have fairly hot outputs so I reckon it'd handle some distortion no bother at all, I use a bit from time to time myself, fingers crossed Santa will be bringing me a Bass Muff or an El Grande Fuzz As far as reliability, I've not heard any horror stories at all, some of the earlier production runs had some issues with hiss, but nobody had any issues getting replacements or refunds. The thing is surprisingly solidly built, I mean that in the best possible way too. I didn't expect the Ibanez kit to be up there with the big boys but it really does hold its own! Cheers, Eude
 25.
Hi All, After selling most of my gear and not playing for ages, I'm now window-shopping with a view to getting a giggable combo. Back in the day (1980s) I used a Trace Elliot 1115. Younger readers click here. That was 150w into 1x15, and delivered more than enough power. It replaced a Carlsbro Cobra (60w into 1x12, I think), which wasn't enough! My fantasy is that technology has progressed in the meantime and that now a smaller, lighter 1x12 combo might suit me. As I'm now older and weaker I'd love to find what I need in a more portable package - something like this little Hartke http://www.samsontech.com/products/product...0&brandID=3. (An if the specs on the interweb are to believed, the corresponding 1x15 is still only 1/2 the weight of the Trace.) What do you think? Cheers Richard
Check out the Ibanez Promethean P5110 combo. It more than keeps up for small pub gigs and you can use the DI when there's PA support and tilt it back for monitoring. It's tiny and an easy one hand lift. The 500W head is removable so you can use it with full size cabs when the time suits too. Definitely worth a look Eude
