(Scoop gets a bit Highlander) "There can be only one..." Um, Lazarus was the son of Boetius (sp?) but I dunno if he had a son himself. His sisters were Miriam and Martha so you can use those if you like. Martha's a nice name for a bass. I'm waffling aren't I? Nice specs by the way, Eude. I claim noodling rights at the next Moffat bash.
We can decide on a name once the bass appears, however, "Martha, son of Lazarus" does have a nice ring to it, albeit in a "Boy named Sue" kinda way. You're free to claim noodling rights mate, I've certainly spent a lot of time on your basses Eude

Quick update... I've changed my mind about the shape. It's been no secret how much I love Scoop's Skelf SC, so I decided that I'll go with the same shape. This bass will now officially be known as "Lazarus, Son of Lazarus". So may bass will hopefully look a bit like this >> But a little shorter, wider, with 1 extra string, and with slightly different woods... Cheers, Eude

Maybe check out these pickups too... http://thunderbuckerranch.com/
I've just been told that it will have a Bang & Olufsen Class D power section on one of their photos on Facebook
Sounds like the one that's in the MiBass then. Does it really need to be so big then?... Eude

They have hinted at possibly doing a Class D head with the new valve preamp, I was hoping it'd be a bit more compact though, something like the GK MB Fusion perhaps...
Thought i best update my Shuker collection having recently welcomed another into the pack.. So here we have : Singlecut 6 - Commissioned by Eude.. this thing is a lovely 33" Bass, very comfy with a very direct sound, can be loud in the mix without killing other instruments.. Jazz 5 - My 21st Birthday present from my parents, Upgraded to an East Preamp, sounds killer, the East really has made this the most versatile bass i own. Artist Pro 6 - Wow, this thing i mad, sounds like a double bass and weighs nothing! crazy. Had a bit of a game getting the action where i wanted, but thats what you sacrifice for a piezo bridge i guess!
Wow mate, what a cracking collection! How you getting on with the 33"er? Notice I've changed my avatar, wouldn't want to be done for bass bigamy... Eude

Reckon it might still be worth checking in with Alan, his basses are amoung the best I've played and he's great to work with. He ain't a huge fan of passive basses, but he's made one in the past, you never know... Eude

How about a Lecompte? They do a bit of a T-40 Tribute... http://www.lecomptebass.com/t4t/ Eude

Just to chime in, I think all the Grafts I've messed around with have been fairly light, but as Alan says, as with any other bass, it all depends on the wood. There tends to be no rhyme nor reason to why, for example, one bit of Alder can be a lot heavier than another, however I've yet to play a Graft that was even slightly weighty yet. All the proper custom ACGs I've played, including my own, like everyone else has already said, feel a lot lighter than they probably are simply down to the good design, the all balance perfectly and feel fairly effortless once on a strap, including Mark's 9 string behemoth! As with any custom bass you can pretty much choose your spec to achieve a lighter weight if so desired. My 5 string is just under 8 lbs, thanks to a ridiculously light Swamp Ash body... Cheers, Eude
I did but it fails to meet my spec in the width department. I have now purchased something which looks promising but will not reveal what it is until I have modified it and proved that it is totally satisfactory. If not I shall remain stumm.
No bother dude, just thought I'd toss it in the ring. If my circumstances were different I'd have had that "wee" Ampeg in a minute! Anyway, looking forward to seeing what you're concocting Good luck! Eude
Isn't leather heavier than whatever the non-leather gig bags are made of? Surely lighter is going to be more comfortable to wear?
I guess it's a little heavier, but it is a very nice fit and doesn't feel heavy as a result...

The Fusion Gig Bags look pretty nice >> http://www.fusion-bags.com/products/guitar-gig-bags Or you could go custom >> http://www.probag-net.com I got a loverly dark brown leather bag, really well made and very very comfortable. Not cheap, but the cheapest leather bags I've seen. Eude
Hey guys, Looking for a combo in the 40-100 watt range for around 200 quid! I have always loved the tone of my mates TD650! How do these little baby's line up next to the big boys tone wise! This is just for noodling in the front room and for the occasional drunken jam night with a gui***ist (boo hiss!) Opinions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Connor
Hey Connor, Hope you're well mate! I think Shep (Pantherairsoft) had one of these for a while, might be worth dropping him a PM on the subject. From what I recall, he was very happy with it, just a little too quiet for his purposes, but seeing as you're not wanting to play gigs with it I'm sure you'd get on just fine. Cheers, Eude
Well it arrived today. First impressions: Well made, feels like a very good quality bit of kit. I'm actually a bit baffled by how come it's so cheap.... I mean, the head is €485 on thomann. The combo is only €164 more... which in anyones book is a great price for a quality mini cab! Add another €10 and you can have the cover too bringing the total up to €659. That's assuming that the head is as good as say, a LM3, which on it's own costs (all thomann prices) €666. The very cheapest markbass cab you can buy is €539... ok ok I know it's a 12 inch but if markbass did a 10 the same size as the promethean combo you can be sure it would be at least 400 euros! So I'm impressed so far. This could easily have been priced a few hundred euros more. Sound wise I prefer it to the LM2 I had for a while. It's very hard to get a bad sound out of it. It's quite smooth and forgiving. The vibe control doesn't sound fake, but rather nice and usable. Next to my eden WT550 I can't say it's any worse. Probably not as hifi or with as powerful EQ, but just a different flavor. Not as complex or revealing, but the lack of complication is actually a blessing sometimes! This is my first impression mind you, I've yet to A/B them. It feels similar me in sound and EQ of the Aguilar 500SC. But, like the eden, the aggie was actually quite big. This thing is tiny. I've never seen an F1 in the flesh, but I wouldn't say it could be much bigger. I'll be gigging it this weekend, in pretty big rooms to 150 ish people. I'm going to use it as a stage monitor and use the DI out to the P.A. I'll also have it sitting on an aggie GS112 to see what it's like running that too at 4ohms, but I'll try it on it's own 1st. I haven't turned it up fully yet (don't want to wake the baby!) so I'm very interested to see how quickly the sound gets compressed cos of that little box. The bag is great, but for some reason I thought it was an ingenious design where the combo didn't actually have to be taken out of the bag... as in the front of the bag would fold back to reveal the speaker. Ah well you can't have everything! Would be nice though if we're talking ultimate in hassle free bass amp solutions not to have to take the combo out of it's bag! Oh, and my combo is dead quiet. After it was on for a while I heard what sounded like a laptop fan, hardly audible. No noticable hiss whatsoever.
Hey dude, glad it's all working out nicely for you You'll probably find that you won't need the GS112 when you're using it as a stage monitor at your 150ish people gig, but it'll certainly add some nice weight to the sound. I sold on my GS112 before I took delivery of my Promethean, would've been nice to have a chance at trying that combination out. Looking forward to hearing how you get on. Eude
Do you mean the barefaced midget (1x12)? That's one of my thoughts or do orange do a 1x12
Sorry dude, I misread the thread... Ignore what I said. What I should've said is go with the Orange SP212 as an additional cab, that should sort you out I don't think adding a Midget would offer you enough extra to justify the cost, but you could go with a Barefaced Compact, they're meant to put out a whole whack and like a lot of wattage.
I have considered that.. I also thought about sp212 with my 210 hmm
What about the little 1X12 they do? Would add a nice sub element and be handy as a stand alone cab for practice or tiny gigs... Eude
I've had a good look at the circuit of the Twin Valve and unfortunately all the EQ is all solid state. It's full of transistors and op-amps. I have a feeling I'm going to be looking for an Ashdown.
Or maybe try out some Guitar Valve jobbies. The smoothest recorded bass sound I ever got was using a 90s all valve 15W 10" Laney combo mic'd up, albeit blended with a bit of DI for a bit more weight as the speaker was a little lacking. Eude
The EBS seems like the middle ground loud enough but portable enough - I emails a retailer a while back asking for some first hand opinions and they basically told me not to get it!! Said it was more a studio amp but surely 90 'valve' watts would be useable live in smaller venues with pa support? The price is high for what it is but then who else is making anything in this range volume-wise? Be keen to hear if anyone has tried one out?
Ampeg used to do a "small" valve head, was it the V-4B? Get's confusing as I think it was a new model but using an old amp's name... There's a piccie here >> Might be worth seeing if you could pick one of them up. I think a second hand Trace Twin Valve would fit the bill nicely though if you can find one. I still think the EBS is stupidly overpriced, god knows who'll actually buy one, for less money you could get an Ashdown Little Bastard and an OK PA System! Eude

Had another thought, how about talking to the Matamp guys? They don't seem to mind customising what they do and it's already along the lines of what you like. I'm sure I heard someone on here talking about getting them to make them a smaller amp for home use... Eude
