Almost a year and a half to build a bolt-on P Bass?! I think it might be time to have a serious word mate...
-
It'll more than likely be OK, you'd just need to be careful with your string choice and technique perhaps? A light touch can go along way with that kind of set up. If it's the instrument I think it is, might be worth dropping the luthier a line, see what they recommend, the main guy at that company if very friendly and approachable and I'm sure he'd be happy to help out. A well made instrument should be able to handle that set up just fine, especially if you get strings made to fit, Newtone strings would help you out with that no bother at all. Netwone've made custom strings for ACG's 31.5" basses, specifically wound and weighted for that scale length and you wouldn't know you were playing a shorter scale whatsoever as far as tone and string tension goes. I play 33" basses with a low B and have never had any hassles really, I tried custom strings for that a while back, but love the lower tension you get from regular DR strings on the slightly shorter scale, so I've settled with that. Keep me posted on how you get on, a shorter scale 5 or 6 string bass is always on my GAS list Eude

Wee update, the wenge back is matched up and ready to be glued... Eude

Having moved to London, and got into a bit of a playing lull, no band, no close musical pals etc. I'm chuffed to say, I've got my mojo back. Been playing most days now for the last few weeks and I've fallen in love again with my ACG Finn. Here's some new boudoir shots for you all... Cheers, Eude

Better late than never, here's my oh so lovely ACG Finn SC Classic BO 5 string. Swamp Ash body, with "Dirty Ash" Finish, 3 piece Wenge neck and Bloodwood fingerboard. Single RFB Pickup, with Series/Parallel/Singlecoil switching and an ACG EQ02 with passive tone control. It's a 33" scale bass, with a low B, so it's an absolute dream to get around and the lightweight body makes you forget you've even got thing on, even with the Wenge neck! I think from the full bass pictures, you can really get a feel for how compact this bass is It can provide a huge range of tones from subtle to barking dog, thanks to the versatility of the ACG Preamp and the coil switching in the pickup. Anyway, I should stop my rambling and show off my pride and joy Cheers, Eude
I did think of getting a 30" scale, but thought it best to split the difference and go for a 32". It felt really nice and easy to play in the 10 minutes I had! I know where its hidden, so could probably sneak a play anytime Sue is at work to be honest, but Father Christmas might cancel all my other presents for being a naughty boy..........
Best play it safe mate, don't incur the wrath of 'Claus...
Oh, that is lovely... I so want a 30" Elwood Jazz. You're lucky man. Enjoy
Me too! Adrian said they'd even consider a 30" Elwood Jazz 6 string! They've not done one yet but are sure it would be possible... Eude

Nice, I've been keeping an eye on those Marusczyk basses for a while now, and Adrian is a really sound guy too. I'd love to try out one of their basses, in fact a lot of them. They do a wide range of styles with a lot of custom/semi-custom options at very decent prices! I believe they'll be at next year's London Bass Show, or whatever it's called. Bet Christmas can't come soon enough mate Eude
It *might* just be a 4 & 8 twin neck but when I mentioned it in passing to Alan at Bassday, he blanched and suddenly found John East's kamikazi pre-amps absolutely fascinating thereby terminating that particular conversation. We'll see...
You could ask for one of those mirror twin neck'd jobbies Eude
Huh. No love for my ACG it seems. Humbly apologise for it not being a Jazz bass...
Huge love for your ACG mate It's an absolute peach of a bass! The gloss finish really makes the blackwood pop, and I love the satin finish on the neck too, nice attention to detail If it sounds half as good as it looks, I can't EVER see you putting it down. Hey guys, things are moving along now. First, a quick spec change. I've decided to revert back to the original plan of having a Finn SC Classic body shape. My current main squeeze is this shape and it just feels too good to move away from. You can view pics of my current ACG here >> A.C. Guitars - Finn SC Classic 5 string So, Alan hopefully should be gluing the body up this week. Here's a pic of the component parts, well the wooden bits anyway... Seeing as we're back to the original plan, we'll be using the original piece of Ziracote now, which is the perfect size for the Finn shape, but was a little too wee for a Skelf. it looks pretty dang loverly in the above pic doesn't it Exciting times Eude

Sounds like a pretty cool set up! Four coils in series is going to sound enormous! Eude

NOT GREAT NEW BASS DAY - EBMM Ray HH Matching Headstock
eude replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
I really have had enough. No idea what's going on but it's been three business days and still no money in my account. How long can debit card refunds take?
It can be instantaneous if the person refunding the money actually gives a sh*t, debit cards are essentially current accounts, so a BACS transfer should be possible. In this day and age waiting more than 24 hours is too long for this kind of stuff. Get on the blower and demand your money back TODAY, if you don't get it back make sure they know you are more than happy to escalate the matter. Good luck mate! Eude -
I don't know what is happening but I have to wait until Weds for it to be processed. Feel totally stressed about this.
Well don't accept anything but your cash back mate. If necessary tell them you're more than willing to put it in writing via a lawyer. They've completely fannied the whole thing up and you've been treated like a complete chump, you're completely within your rights to get your cash back! Eude -
NOT GREAT NEW BASS DAY - EBMM Ray HH Matching Headstock
eude replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
Well, that was a long process, full of bad luck basically...I was more than willing to keep going on this, but its not going to work. Deliveries cannot be 100% guaranteed for Wednesday, and I dont want to swap days off or have it swimming around the postage system if Im working or going away. So, refund it is. My next question is...what do I do now?!
Get your refund then sit back for a few weeks and really mull over what you've gone through and why before doing anything else. Eude -
Ah ! Sorry about the above post, I may have half and ale or so ;-( But I do think I would just get my money back at this stage, as an musicman player I can't believe the treatment you have had so far. Especially when you think of the money you have spent on the same brand.
+1,000,000! Seriously man, get your cash back and regroup. You've got plenty of basses to be getting on with and I think you really need to send a message to Strings and Things who seem to have been the bad guys all along. If you really want to add another Musicman(s) to yer stable, then I'd contact them directly over in the US and tell them you have no faith in their UK distributor and are only willing to buy direct, unless they can assist in setting up contact with someone willing to ship from the states. I think Guitar Center (Apologies for the spelling, that's what the shop is called...) are now shipping to the UK and I think their website prices in £ might include all the taxes and crap that comes with it. Cheers, Eude -
Laaaavly mate Oh, by the way, got hold of "We are a Unit", absolutely awesome mate, in my top 10 albums of 2011 so far! Eude
