I'm pretty sure I read that Linda bought it for him

App. Disappeared from iPad and iPhone ...
pineweasel replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
An app can be withdrawn from the App Store by the publisher, at which point you can't re-download it, despite previously purchasing it. However it won't just disappear from your device, and if you backed it up to a computer you can reinstall from there. -
I use a Planet Waves mini one. It's tiny and very unobtrusive, tracks well even on the low B. It's small but can still be seen easily enough. Also because it's small I can just leave it attached, even while the bass is in its bag being transported.
+1. These are great little tuners

Speaking as a long term Jazz player, I recently bought an American Standard Precision, and I really like the Modern C neck on that. So I imagine the Slim C would be easy to get on with.

Any builders in the UK that could make this bass?
pineweasel replied to project_c's topic in Bass Guitars
I have the Harley Benton PB Shorty, which is pretty close to what you are wanting, though rosewood and cheap and cheerful. I find it annoyingly neck heavy - something to bear in mind when speccing a custom. Lightweight tuners would help. -
Calling all Fender Rumble 500 v3 (and possibly 200v3, 100 v3) owners
pineweasel replied to a topic in Amps and Cabs
Almost certainly it's by design. The Tone Hammer 500 is the same -
Also very handy for experimenting with effect settings. Just stick the looper at the front of the effect chain, record something suitable and mess around with your pedals at leisure.

I would have said my Jazz didn't have the classic dead spot, as I've never noticed it during ordinary playing. However, running it though a Boss OC-2 recently revealed it; the octave tracking wouldn't sustain as long around the 5th fret on the G as it would elsewhere on the fretboard.

Don't get your hopes up for a lefty Moollon. I emailed them recently and they replied, very politely and reasonably, explaining why they don't do left handers and have no plans to do so!

Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
pineweasel replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
There's a lefty HB Acoustic bass in black there at the minute - £43.63
That's been there for months, along with the resonator and the toy Warwick. I'd buy it if I didn't already have a cheapo acoustic bass. -
Does anyone have any experience of buying a bass from Thomann? Juat want to know what they're like for shipping and make sure they don't send a guitar that's bashed up from bad packing and postage.
I've bought several basses from them. Their packaging is excellent. They did send a duff Fender Jazz once (scratched, misaligned nut slots, etc) but were very responsive when I complained and the replacement was perfect.
Does anyone store their basses in the attic?
I do. Never had a problem. My Wal quietly appreciated up there for years; now it's out and being played again with no ill effects.
ian masters from the pale saints. not that i'd imagine anyone has heard of him, or the brilliant pale saints, which is a shame.
Saw them in 1989 supporting Firehose, great gig. I remember he was playing a Westone Thunder 1A just like the one I had.

I have a five string Progressive and I'd never noticed the foil before, but I've just had a look and its there. Less noticeable on a 5 as the bridge sections are much closer together. -
Is that the MIM version? IME the routing on the Japanese ones is immaculate and the bass looks great without a scratchplate...
My Mexican Jazz had this hole, yes. Meanwhile the US Standard model has an open rout from the neck pickup down to the controls...doh!
I said its NOT " actually 32 scale " ... but to me it feels like more slight instrument .. than say a fender type bass
The string spacing is quite a bit tighter than a Fender, isn't it?

Great track. Very interested to hear the album. He's got some excellent musicians playing on it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-34866235

Got some on my jazz. I'm hard pressed to notice any difference from my normal EXL165s to be honest. No silks.

I have a Roland Bass Cube 30, which is a good little bass amp for practise and rehearsals and is fairly decent for guitar too, especially for clean jazzy tones. More powerful versions are available.

EasyJet charge extra for hold baggage, so most passengers will try to carry as much as possible as hand luggage. I was one of the final boarders on my last EasyJet flight and it was chaotic, as passengers searched for free space in the already crammed overhead lockers. So if you take your U-Bass, make sure you are on board early and keep an eye on it.
When I got it it was dead and just made pops and bangs. Then I put a battery in it! Now its fine
The volume control on my Progressive has an active/passive pull pot, usefully. Pull it out and it works with no battery. -
Were I to be so bold as to want an 8-string ...
pineweasel replied to Happy Jack's topic in Bass Guitars
If you can track down a Shergold Marathon it's a decent option. I have one and I'd say it's lighter than any of my Fenders. Neck heavy but a wide leather strap deals with that. But as mentioned, rare; I believe they only made around 50.
