  1. Compression is one of the few "effects" that I can't live without. Sure, when playing alone I feel like I lose all my dynamic range, but for live gigs it just takes everything so that I can better sit in the mix, rather than be constantly concerned I'm too quiet or too loud!
  2. Have a check out of Jayme Lewis' unboxing livestream of the SGT he just did yesterday; he does a really good job of fiddling with it to see what sort of sounds and styles it can do:
  3. I'm also following this thread with great interest, as I also want to pick up the SGT-DI and the Revolt Bass!
  4. The VT definitely can do grindy, so I'm not doubting your experience with it! The character dial really affects how much "grind" you get. Have a listen to how I use it here (just through the VT, no other eq/effects etc.):
  5. I know you mentioned the Sansamp was a bit "grindy", but have you tried the VTBass? I use that currently for my IEMs and that gives me a nice fat warm sound. There is also the Two Notes Revolt Bass which I absolutely love the look and sound of. And as Boodang said, the SpectraDrive is great (assuming it has essentially the same circuitry as the old RH amp heads, or at least can sound like them).
  6. It's currently the bargain of the century! Best of luck!
  7. Yeah it might have had more of an impact than I anticipated! For me it emphasises the key aural difference: the Stingray sounds "looser" whereas the Bongo is more tight and compressed. Obviously though the fretless-ness is going to overpower that though!
  8. I said I'd do it didn't I? Ignore the slightly dodgy transitions, everything set flat recorded DI through a VT Bass also set flat, blend at 50%:
  9. If I didn't have flat wounds on my L2000 I would add that to the comparison too!
  10. I hear it as the difference between a P (Stingray) and a J (Bongo). The Stingray sits in the mix, whilst the Bongo more punchy and wants to push through the mix into your ears!. I'll upload a couple of clips compared to a (fretless) Stingray. Whilst not a true comparison it gives a good idea of the sound profile!
  11. £100 price drop as I have found a couple of extra marks on the back of the body that I haven't pictured (yet), so it seems only fair. Pictures will be uploaded shortly
  12. The figuring on that Thumb is beautiful. Also your playing, but mostly the Thumb
  13. Gorgeous bass, absolutely killer for long gigs, and a bargain price given how much they go for new! glwts
  14. Oh man, that is a pretty Spector; if I hadn't come to the "Stingray Realization" that prompted this sale I would have bitten your hand off for a trade
  15. Quick attempt at a cool little hook: Dontcha by The Internet
  16. Wow, that is absolutely stunning, I can't imagine what would bring you to part with it!
  17. That neck is absolutely nuts, I love the binding!
  18. Such a great bass, really tight compressed low end with a great sparkly top, if I didn't already have one I would be all over it!
  19. What an absolute beauty of a Bongo, and they sound absolutely incredible (I should know, currently have a 5 string for sale on the marketplace wink wink). The only sellers remorse I've had was a Stingray 5 HH that I wish I still had. It's not remorse as such, I just wish I'd kept it a bit longer than the 3 months before I traded it for something more special!
  20. Agreed, I've always been a big fan of the Sterlings, and I'm really not happy with what MM have done with the naming conventions with the "Sterling by Music Man" line
  21. Tell me about it, I'd be just as happy if this doesn't sell if I'm totally honest!
  22. **SOLD/TRADED** I said I would never sell this monster, but the time has come to admit that I just prefer the sound of a Stingray, and I'm fed up of switching the fretless neck out on my 4 string! Here we have my session bass that has for the past 10 years mostly been used in studio or pit, having only made it to the stage once or twice; my 2004 Music Man Bongo 5HH in stunning Lava Pearl. It cuts through the mix like nothing else, and the 4 band preamp is just nuts. It has a couple of small marks, including the customary chip on the headstock, but nothing that you'd notice unless you looked closely (all pictured for full disclosure). **EDIT** - I've just noticed a couple of extra nicks on the body that weren't originally pictured. As such I'm dropping the sale price by £100 as it's only fair. Pictures showing the dings will be added soon, but they are both on the back/underside of the body, so pretty unnoticeable unless you go hunting for them **EDIT** It has action so low it plays itself if you look too hard at it, and is probably the easiest instrument to play I've ever had the joy of encountering. Last time it went live (link corrected): Some home recording too: Serial number details: Serial #F10925 ManufacturedNovember 5th, 2004 Build Code162-29-22-01-00-CR ModelBongo 5 HH ColorLava Pearl NeckRosewood Painted Bong PickguardBlack Pickguard Bongo 5 HardwareChrome Hardware It comes with the generic hard case (no official MusicMan one unfortunately) + shipping. Preferably I would be looking to trade for a Stingray 5 (Special, Piezo, H, HH, I'd consider any variation) but if you've got something interesting I'll hear any offer!
  23. I pulled this one from the archives, but I found a video of an old band I was in playing Travelling Without Moving:
