1.

We have a winner!
2. I wouldn't say I compromise "my sound" for a band mix but I do change it slightly in order for it to cut through. In sections where I'm the only one playing I do find sometimes it sounds a bit naff but generally after a while of playing the same part I can change the sound by changing where/how my right hand attacks the strings.
3. Hi Matttimms, deal has just been made and the case is on it's way out today
4. It's a fairly standard design but I've always loved the glitter/colour combination that MXR use on their envelope filter. Looks great in the flesh to my eye.
5. Little follow up since I've now lived with the bass for a fortnight and had a few rehearsals. I'm getting more used to the preamp (not 100% yet but getting there at my own (read: slow) pace!). Band mates love how it sounds and how it feels to play -yes I was [s]stupid[/s] brave enough to let them have a go-. I'm working on getting sound samples done. Think I'm going to record a chord progression and play over that using different sounds I can get from the bass but will take a week or so I imagine as my recording and playing abilities aren't upto much! It'll be recorded directly into a Fast Track Solo interface into Reaper so not world class recording equipment but it'll hopefully give a vague idea! Aim is to not use any plugins of any kind either so it'll just be direct sound of the bass and nothing else.
6.
Thats worth knowing... I assume the sleeve will have the same issue? I have an M80 but was thinking of going for the sleeve, maybe not now!
It's maybe worth giving bass direct/gear a call and find out. I use the vertigo case for my basses (5strings) and find they are a perfect fit but it would definitely struggle with a 6er.
7. I know where you're coming from. Just had my first real rehearsal since getting my new bass and guitarist said the same thing! Good feeling, eh?
8. Would be interested in how that sounds! I'm also going to be in the minority here and say that the exposed pole piece pickups that are standard on Stingrays look horrendously ugly to my eye.
9.
I love this place. A guy asks for a "cheap but decent" bass and we come up with Sadowsky and ACG
To be fair I never really mentioned Sadowsky as one to buy, merely that I liked the one I played a while back. ACG's occasionally come up for sale on here for the same price as US Fenders so not super expensive really. Plus when I read about the Stingray I was assuming around that value
10. Booked in for the Glasgow one too. Not remotely interested in Fenders but the event itself seems quite interesting. If anything it gets me out the house for once!
11. I have to say the Sadowsky I played was one of the 24fret models and played and sounded superb but the B string let it down. If I was intending to tune it E-C however it would have been the ideal Jazz for me really! Definitely worth giving as much basses a shot as you can. I love the new Ibanez Prestige basses, super versatile and feel great. ACG are also excellent and super versatile.
12. Personally I've never tried a Jazz 5er that didn't have a god awful B string. I know some exist but I've never played one (tried Fender, Sadowsky etc). Maybe buying a bass on here is worth a punt? Try it out in band situations with your own gear etc and If you don't like it sell it on for little/no loss.
13.
What a lovely pair... I've been gasing for an uber spec this week...
and rightfully so. They're something special. Looking great EAD. Do like the recurve a lot.
14.
There is still no reason for a 21 year old that doesn't know what an electric guitar is to get up in my face and make a mock of me while I'm trying to make a living. blue
In my (admittedly limited) experience, young audience members are fine and it's the older ones who have the confidence to be an asshole. Had several issues with drunken middle age blokes.
15.
I'm currently playing the best bass I've owned, so I'm content.
I'm in this camp at the moment since getting my ACG. Wouldn't mind a fretless though...must snap out of that train of thought.
16. Warwick thumb? Tiny bodies on them. bit of neck dive however the sound makes up for it.
17. Can't say I've ever used the strap for mine. Does seem like it'd get in the way a bit though.
18. Every chance I get during rehearsals (generally the drummers fag break) I always have a go on the kit and I love it. Would love to actually learn how to play them some day.
19. Not my thing aesthetically but looking forward to hearing sound clips!
20. I have a decent grasp of most things (weirdly I find myself using double thumb as a standard picking technique quite often). But I struggle with any form of walking bassline and I can't say I'm great at reggae style laid back lines. With practice I'm sure I could manage though.
21. Still here May consider a compressor pedal. still not certain on that though.
22.
Yes, absolutely disgraceful. I will have some new pics to share later on...
Cheers chaps! Look forward to them!
