Mine is still last in line on my pedalboard, and I can't see that changing any time soon. I do not use the overdrives on it as I still prefer "real" pedals, but I believe I am the only person who would notice a difference in my sound. I do however use it for fuzz occasionally and have no complaints whatsoever. Compressors, amp models, and modulation effects are where this thing really shines, along with the wide variety of delays and reverbs. The variety of different ones on offer mean that there should be something there to please most players. The noise gate isn't bad either, but does noticeably affect the tone. Tuner is great, I no longer use a Korg Pitchblack! Tone suck when using no effects is KIND of there. Not very noticeable, but I actually like what it does to my sound. Almost makes it sound a little cleaner, like a really subtle compression. Main thing I love about this pedal though, is that if I ever want to do some recording, all I need to do is connect it to a computer via USB. All my other effect pedals are already connected to it so I can turn up anywhere with a bass and my board and be good to go. Another huge plus is the good quality DI output. If I ever have an amp fail on me, I can use an amp model on the B3 and go straight into the desk without sacrificing my tone. Total bargain!

Two come to mind. Warwick Streamer Stage 1 5 string Stingray 5 Love the sound of these things and they're clearly extremely well made instruments, but I just couldn't get a good sound out of them, and they felt all wrong! EDIT: oh, and anything by Yamaha, particularly the RBX series and the Attitude. They feel like plastic toys to me!

What do you do when you've found The One?

If you sell them you'll most likely end up replacing them at some point. If you love your new bass that much it might be worth considering using any generated funds to finance a second one? -
Heavy amp, lightweight cab.. works for me!

Resurrecting an old thread here, but it would appear that the MiniMega has now been announced as available to buy in the US, and has started appearing on UK sites too... Looks like the RRP is over £600 which is a little higher than I expected for Peavey gear!

I'd give them a week and see how many they can do. If it's more than ten they're probably good enough

I occasionally hear a bass player with a sound I really love. It tends to be those who use an active bass with a pick, which is the opposite to what I use. But when it comes to actually playing, I am never satisfied unless I get that messy upper midrange sound
It's a very scary number, I'm 5 or 6 short of a full suit.
I'm guessing a full suit means 13, so you have like 8 or 9? ... I need to up my game! I have 7 basses, one guitar and a bass head (and a speaker cable), and thought I was the nut!! There are some very nice 80s USA ones on eBay right now... Thankfully, being skint and sharing a bungalow with a lady and our three cats is holding me off

I sold a Markbass rig, then bought another one... That's allowed right?

P bass with Entwistle neodymium pickups sounds like pure rage! Also, Peavey T40 basses, especially with the blade pickups, are mega aggressive.
I find darkglass pedals are usually a bit to harsh for always on. Though i have been thinking of trying a b3k into bddi as a low/mid OD/boost.
I use a B3k into a BDDI and highly recommend it!*

If you're not sure what you are after, experimenting with multi fx might be the way to go. A lot of them are super complicated to use, or the effects might not be quite to the standard you would want, but for me the Zoom B3 is an exception. It works like three stomp boxes next to each other, and most of the effects are really good and usable.. even some of the overdrives are really good.. and it has a tuner on it!

Love the look of the Ultra! Though I'd probably prefer the Hi Mid knob to be in the distortion stage rather than the other way round... I'm not the expert though!

String Replacement for Rotosound Steel Rounds
chrismuzz replied to Lozz196's topic in Accessories and Misc
Elites are worth trying, they're less scooped than ProSteels and quite affordable. -
I like single coil pickups, lots of compression and a couple of gain pedals. I've cleaned up my signal as much as I can but still get a bit of hiss, which if I'm not careful can develop into a lot of feedback in venues setup in a certain way. A noise gate is pretty much a necessity for me if I don't want to compromise my sound! I've tried a couple with varying results. The one on the Zoom B3 is actually one of the better ones, but it does alter the tone, and it wastes one of the three slots I can use. The ISP Decimator was purchased after a lot of recommendations, and I'm very happy with it now!

Amazingly good quality for such a relatively low priced piece of equipment. I use mine for recording, and it stays on my live pedalboard as a tuner, and for any non gain based effect

mybass has pretty much nailed it. If space/portability is major issue, get the traveller cabs, but they are of a lesser quality than the standard series. I can't tell you which speaker size is best to go for, but I used to own a 4x10, sold it in a moment of madness, then got another because of how much I loved it. Whenever people put their head through it at gigs they are full of compliments about the sound and how efficient it is, so I can definitely recommend a 2x10 / 4x10

I would use an overdriven treble/mid heavy sound (this will smooth out the peaks without making it sound tame), blended with a clean low/mid sound to fill the mix out. Maybe add some light chorus and/or flanger to give it more texture.. but there are many approaches that could work!

Forget clean - what would you look for in a filthy cab?
chrismuzz replied to Naetharu's topic in Amps and Cabs
A fair point but it's better to be safe than sorry! I've always made sure my cabs RMS power handling is higher than the amp's stated power and I've never had to deal with a broken speaker. Sure, I have used cabs which aren't as high power handling on a few occasions with great results, but to me it isn't worth the risk -
If it absolutely had to be a combo, it would be the Markbass CMD102P. The best sounding and loudest one hand lift I've ever personally used. I'd have to keep my pedals though
Asking price was $1000 an it sold for $1000. Sad eh,to think any old beat to hell Fender will sell for a damn sight more than £647. Glad I never based my retirement plan on selling my Peaveys
I hope they never increase in value, the affordability is one of the things that makes them so special!

I always hated the look of the slanty pickups but it looks gorgeous on this. Great find!! If you get bored of it, let me know

Ports are at the back which allows the cab to be smaller, therefore more portable. You lose a bit of low end (but not through the PA if you DI, obviously!)

I once had a LOT of beer spilled on mine and its never had any problems. You definitely received a faulty one, and the first I've heard of! Glad you got a replacement, try not to let places mess about sending stuff away for "inspection and repair".
