There will always be exceptions... But roundwounds are generally the best. I actually find its harder to be accurate on lighter gauge strings but YMMV. If your bass doesn't have awful soft fretwire, then stainless steel strings might excite you, as they will give you even more brightness

I thought it was pretty normal for the first few frets of a string to sound tw***y and bright, getting darker/warmer as you go higher up the neck. Personally I would simply play the notes in a different position if I wanted that sound. If it's too dificult to do cleanly, or the player simply doesnt want to I'm not sure what I could suggest other than using multi-band compression to try and even the sound out but even that won't work completely. EDIT: I can't believe i misspelt 'twangy'

Now that I take two basses to gigs (a 5 string in standard tuning, and a 4 string thats half a step down), if an emergency ever did crop up I would just tune the other one up and down a lot

The original point definitely stands regardless of the active/passive sidetrack we've gone onto.. Having a spare is always a good idea! Thankfull I have never in 8 years brought one along, nor have I needed one... phew!

Personally, I would use a 2x10 on its own, two 2x10s, or maybe a 2x10 and 1x15 together

Never heard of them to be honest dude! Food for thought here, you could get a really awesome used bass cab from the For Sale section on here for £400! Many are like new, and most of them go for about half the retail price

Might be something to do with them being made by Peavey (solid as a rock) but I just feel safer using them!

I only own passive basses, this is one of the reasons! Both the actives I've owned have had electronics trouble... Plus I prefer the midrange and attack of a passive!
