1. There is a Keeley 4 knob compressor for sale on Musicradar for £120 at the moment. Bargain!
2.
And I know where he got one of them !!! I don't recall it being heavy apart from the time the schallers gave way and it dropped on my foot , giving the punters of York a right laugh. Great instrument.
The one I got from you has been my main instrument ever since! The other has a shiny new fretless neck on it that Rob built for me. I will be buried with them!
3. I have a couple of little amps, Shuttle 9.2 supposedly 900w and a TC RH750 and whatever the accurate power ratings are they are brutally loud, in fact I'd say if I got to over half on the volume and I'm not using PA then I'm a knobhead.

6. Presumably if you had been aware you would have resigned to not get in the way though? For all the right on outrage, image is important. I'm a fat bloke and I sympathise, but the market place has decided that image is important, so it is important. Whether that is morally right, or artistically right has no bearing. As soon as someone else invests in your product, they get a say. The days of "only" enjoying music via radio or record and then turning up to a gig are gone. The vast majority of high selling music is on TV first, and we see them before we hear a note. The very second you get paid you become a business with a product. To think otherwise is naive.
7. The Horrorpops. Bit of great psychobilly. Kiss kiss kill kill is a brilliant album.
8.
Should have asked him for the Bollywood gig - would be fun!
This! that would have been a blast.
9.
That clip, to me, is an A-Z of fretless clichés to be avoided at all costs. Not Pino himself really, but the whole host of imitators it spawned that couldn't play anything without loads of wildly exaggerated vibrato or bloody sliding harmonics. I've seriously fallen out of love with the whole fretless thing - it really makes me cringe.
It wasn't cliche when that track was released, it was new and fresh. But now, like any perishable item, it's more than a bit smelly.
10. It's a real shame. I've read it for years too. I still buy it, but only if I happen to be near a shop selling it. I don't make an effort to get it. I prefer real magazines to electronic versions.
11. 65 Amps are very well respected in 6 string guitar land.
12. Good bit of kit! I love mine (and I have an addiction to envelope filters)
13.
Jump on a train to Warwick, go and see uncle Mark at Bass Direct
This! It's his fault I'm now a poor man!!
14. Looks nice!! Sounds... I have laptop speakers!! Will try cans tomorrow!
15.
Fantastic choice. The Shuttle amps are brilliant but the new .2 models really do push technology to an almost perfect state between weight, tone, price, versatility. If it is anything like my Shuttlemax 9.2 you have many tones at your disposal. I read that the new filter on/off buttons are much less extreme and really well zoned in on the frequencies we bassists need access to quickly.
Although I took the Streamline with me, it is not my main bass. My 1993 (I think) massively modified Energy is. So I got the Shuttle 9.2 home, plugged in the energy... activated the mid-cut switch only (all other EQ flat) and there it was... the sound in my head. Absolutely bloody marvellous. I usually have a mental FX board, but this is the first time I haven't even had a compressor on. Just the bass, a cable and the amp.
16. Virtuoso is a word that is massively over used. BGM called David Ellefson a virtuoso in the latest mag. He's a solid player, certainly and very good at what he does. But has he mastered the instrument or indeed music? Can he be mentioned in the same breath as Nigel Kennedy? No? Well he's not a virtuoso then.
17. He's not annoying. He's a showman. And I bet it gets them bookings. So fair play to him.
18. The shop is only about an hour away and I had never been. So after a quick call to make sure they had the bits in stock I wanted to try, off I went with my Streamline and my wallet. I tried plenty of amp and cab combinations (Genz / Vanderklay / Berg etc). I took the Streamline because out of all my basses it is the most difficult to get sounding just right - it is very picky about amps. I tried the Shuttle series amps and a streamliner 600. I left with a Genz Shuttle 9.2 and a plan to obtain a couple of Berg 1x12 cabs. I quite liked the Vanderklays but with the Shuttle and an all graphite Status I found them to be bit too mid pushed and a little brittle. Sounded fab with a Dingwall that another chap was trying though. The Berg cabs are not neo so a bit heavier than the MB cabs I have, but I need them!!!! So there will be plenty of kit getting listed in the next few days. I don't think I've ever been as impressed with a shop as this. Excellent customer service, no probs about a pretty extensive A/B session with all the different options and I even got a go on the new 3 Leaf Audio envelope filter that is replacing the GR2. Anyway, I bought a Shuttle 9.2 a couple of speakon cables and a Soundblox Bass drive wotsit. Now all plugged in at home and sounding great. The only downside... if I keep going back I'm going to get divorced!!
19. When they come out of Berklee / GIT / whatever they merely leave having mastered the language. Doesn't mean their first attempt at a novel will be worth reading. That needs time.
20. If the landlord is paying he makes the choice.
