1.
It says these are discontinued on the GAK site ?
Fender bought Genz-Benz and then closed them down. If Fender had simply re-badged the Shuttle and Streamliner amps then it would have been fine. Instead they discontinued some of the best modern amps in the world and only made a half-arsed attempt of using the tech in the Fender's own amps.
2.
Just to go somewhat the other way, I've largely stepped DOWN from Fenders to Squiers. I mod them a little, usually just tuners and pickups. Sometimes not even that. More than ever, I could never justify huge costing basses. The law if diminishing returns applies!
Of course! But you don't buy a Ferrari just because it's a car.
3.
I'm absolutely not trying to get into an argument or anything - I'm genuinely interested to understand whether there is something very, very special/unique to justify their prices compared with say a custom ACG, Ken Smith, Wal, Overwater, etc.
I'm guessing an awful lot of it is paying the mental New York rent on their workshop. I bet they could be half-price if they moved to some derelict sh*t hole on the outskirts of Detroit
4. Deal number 4 with Dan. This time for a rack mounting kit for my Genz Shuttle 9.2 Super quick shipping, item looks unused! Thanks again!
5. I like them too, but I find them to suit some basses far better than others. Great on my Precision and on my Marleaux, but horrible on my Sandberg TM5.
6. ^ Can't argue with that. Ishibashi has a couple of Moon basses used at the moment. Excellent basses just without a Fender logo on them
7. I got my Jap Precision directly from Japan. It was used and in great condition. It's been a few years but I'm pretty sure it was about £575 ish including shipping. If you want a Jap Fender then get one from Ishibashi or one of the well respected Japanese ebay sellers. Ishibashi have new and used stock - you just have to move quick when you see something you want. Top service from those guys.
8. I've got an Urge 2 which I really like, but I'm as clueless as you are! Are the electronics in the Urge 1 the same as the Urge 2? Or did they get cheaper with the 2?
9. I do it because I love to play music with other people. I'm long passed any ideas of being paid properly for it so I tend to try to look for things that will be fun or will increase my musical knowledge. I don't really care if there is an audience or not anymore.
10. I did the same - had a RH750 but it wasn't the sound in my head. Then I got a 9.2 and all was well with the world!
11. Both in excellent condition, both have velcro on the bottom The Wampler Sovereign is a cracking distortion box. It's a guitar effect that works well with passive basses, but it does fart out a bit with active ones. Andertons have them at £167.00. Selling mine for £120 delivered. Skreddy P19 is a Muff made with Dave Gilmore in mind. But has a very bass useful mid hump control - it's probably a bit smoother in sound than a regular Muff. RRP's at £175 and seem to go on ebay for about £120 + delivery - so I'll do £120 including delivery in the UK. I am looking for trades in particular: EQD The Depths Wampler Velvet Fuzz ta
12. Denmark Street hasn't been a go-to music shopping place for me for years. Don't think I've been back since the Astoria closed.
13. Stunning amp. Needs cranking though - not for idle noodling while watching telly!
14. Mesa Prodigy here too and Genz Shuttle and Streamliner. All good! All different.

SOLD!

That is beautiful! I love Marleaux basses.
16.
I got a rack blanking plate. Cut bolt hole ends off to length. Drill extra mounting holes in the plate for the Shuttle casing. Bend to shape. Fit, plug in and play.
Could I trouble you for some photos and measurements? That would solve my problems!
17.
No chance. Go and buy one new for about a million pounds, like I had to
I have the Streamliner one, but I want a Shuttle set as well!
18.
I wouldn't mind betting that Fender slapped some fairly onerous handcuffs on Jeff G to prevent him from going straight into competition with them. I agree with the others above -- if FMIC had adopted/rebadged the Benz designs, it would have revolutionised their amplification range overnight and made them a market leader for little/no extra work or outlay. Did it not occur to them that they were buying 30 years of continual R&D and fine-tuning? Jeez. Fender make the Keystone Kops look organised.
IIRC when Leo sold up he had a 10 year non-compete clause in the deal! No doubt there is something similar - and if Jeff has been paid enough then in 10 years time he would have been ready to retire anyway.
19. Jap Fender? I love mine - it's the only P i've ever bonded with
20. I've not tried one, but I was under the impression that the bigger Rumble amps were Genz tech?
21.
How's the neck profile on the TM5? It's on my list of basses to try but finding one within reasonable distance is tricky and I don't want to travel the length of the country for a baseball bat....
Definitely not a baseball bat! I'm very picky about neck shapes. The TM5 isn't as slinky as a Marleaux Consat, but it's more comfortable than a Fender 5
22. I never tune the same way as the guitars. If a low B isn't low enough I drop that, but the rest stays where it is. No point matching the guitars - leave the notes where they are!
23. The tuners are to extend the range of the instrument, so dropping the E on a 5 string wouldn't be of any benefit. I'm confused why you can't just drop the B string down to A when you need to and play the E-string notes where they are normally. What am I missing?
24. You can always get a TT5 with just the 2 jazz pickups. The bucker in the TM5 splits very nicely though. I tend to use it split most of the time, unless I'm just using the bucker, then I use all of it!
25. Another vote for Sandberg here. I love my TM5, it just sounds right and it's dead easy to play.
