  1. I've been playing my SL TT4 a lot with my big band. Currently strung with nickel D'addario. I like them a lot, but I have to say in a Big Band environment they are a bit twangy. I'm wondering whether to just let them get old, or put flats back on it.
  2. I’ve ordered the FL. Fingers crossed I like them
  3. Way too heavy for me! and him when he got older
  4. I am a big Duck Dunn fan.... mmmm..
  5. I’m not a fan of rounds on a P, unless I’m in a rock band.
  6. Rotos? I seem to. remember they are very bright too start but then mellow out. Been a long time since I tried them though.
  7. I would not have called TIs old school. They are not like La Bella flats. The TIs cut through plenty, even when I’m n the same space as the trombones.
  8. At the moment they both have TI flats on them. Im thinking of putting different stings on one of them for a bit of variety. Definitely flats, but which? My current gig is a big band with about 20 people. Brass, reeds, piano, drums etc.
  9. The US specials have shallower necks too - which is why I have them.
  10. I bought two US Specials in 10 days earlier this year. I understand!
  11. Selling my Boss Katana 100W 1x12 guitar combo. Photos to follow, but it is immaculate and even still has the cardboard control explanation thingy on it. The £80 footpedal is the posh Roland one that lets you access all 4 channels and also swap to FX mode to turn them on and off, and other stuff I never discovered. Quick demo: TIME LIMITED SPECIAL OFFER: SPECIAL OFFER while something else is still available... £200 for both. No shipping, cash on collection. No movement on price. (The footswitches go used on ebay for £50-£65 on their own!) If the other thing I want sells then it goes back to the entirely reasonable higher price.
  12. Thank you. It's a good weight but too much for me alas.
  13. Ooo! Do you know the weight please?
  14. More gain in the house, less gain in stage. Same with all driven tones.
  15. I've performed it a couple of times. I used a Boss LS2 to split my signal. In 1 loop I had a Digitech Bass Synth Wah, and in the other an EHX Metal Muff. Took some tweeking but it sounded excellent. One of the performances was a drunken jam that was on youtube, but I can't find it now. Maybe it was taken down by the person who filmed it.
  16. Sandberg TT4 Superlight is the answer. Under 7lb, brilliant balance. Avoid all basses that have the old style large plate tuning heads on them - unless you are happy to spend money on fitting Hipshot Ultralites instead. They do make a huge difference for balance and can also lower total weight by as much as 0.5 lb depending on the tuners you are removing. If you find a heavy tuner bass you like where the balance is almost where you want it, then Hipshots will cure it.
  17. You should get your money back from where you bought it from!
  18. I had one too. I saved up for ages for it, not realising that the neck shape would be very different to my old early 90s Energy. The new square shoulder neck shape is very uncomfortable for me. Everything else about the bass was wonderful, but the neck wasn't. I wish they'd go back to the earlier C shape neck, then I'd buy another one. I am also surprised that they stick with such a wide 5 string nut at 48mm. The Stingray is the highest selling 5 string at 44.5mm and many others do 45mm (although I have to say that 0.5mm makes a lot of difference in comfort for me), and yet Status and a few others stick with a massive 48mm. I'm sure 5 string sales would be higher if the nut was narrower.
  19. You've got a point there. I once saw a theatre show based on Meat Loaf tunes with a story inspired by Bat out of hell. It was very well done and had a great sound - no bass player. I think it was sequenced rather than the keys doing it. In the real Meat Loaf band the bass player is Kasim Sulton - and his main job was actually as musical director of the show. Meat Loaf bass parts are not complex, so it wouldn't surprise me if Sulton took the bass role as an additional element rather than hiring another player. He's is a very good player, but I bet he earns more by being musical director for big shows.
  20. This! Their web designer needs shooting. There's so much cut n paste for bass specs going on you pretty much have to ignore a lot of it.
