  1. The 40hz control is really only any good for cutting. The Marcus low is at 65Hz and it great for cutting boom on hollow stages and boosting on a solid stage. As it happens I tend to cut that a little and boost with the 180hz instead. Plenty of wallop but keeps out of the way of the kick drum and the tubas / bones I have to share sonic space with. Then all I need to do is adjust the pickup balance on my J to match the song needs. All neck for Duck Dunn stuff, all bridge for the more jazzy tunes, and the middle for the rest. Works for me!
  2. When I was in a covers band doing 20+ tunes a night we put in 3-4 originals. When I was in an originals band, we put in a couple of covers. Normally at the halfway stage to get the punters singing along, and then sometimes the last tune. When I was in a functions band - no originals. Well, maybe at 2am when the only people left in the room were the ushers / bridesmaids trying to get laid.
  3. They've kept the old and badly chosen EQ centres then? Eijits.
  4. Considering a significant number of the clergy don't believe, I doubt it.
  5. The music trust band I play with is planning to get rehearsals underway again in September. There's a lot of young players both in that and in the other ensembles - under 18s not yet able to get the vaccine. And most of them are brass and wind players. I am quite nervous about that environment. Kids are plague rats at the best of times. When they are actively blowing wet air all over the place they are even worse. I've not yet decided whether I'm going to attend. I really miss it, but 20+ people in a room where 16 of them are not yet vaxxed and blowing wet air...
  6. This. I laugh when I see an advert saying "I've put £200 worth of new pickups in it" Yes - and you removed £200 worth of new pickups at the same time.
  7. Lovely. I really want the 5 string version.
  8. Don't forget the American Specials. I think the last run was in 2012. They are a bit lighter, have a slimmer neck (front to back) and are really good value.
  9. That’s gorgeous! But weigh it properly! That’s too big a guessing margin for us people with bad backs and dodgy shoulders.
  10. Is there anything that sounds like a 1990s Trace? The super deep sort of slappy goodness? Ideally without the weight, but all information is welcome.
  11. I'd like a tuner, a good compressor and a mute switch. That'll do me.
  12. I have enjoyed the demos of them. I seemed to have stopped looking at new basses to buy and instead I'm gassing for more amps! Gawd knows why, I only have 1 cab!
  13. I had a Demeter head for a while. Falls into the "should never have sold it" bracket.
  14. The GSS Baby Sumo is apparently very good, but it seems to have disappeared from their website. The Demeter Minnie 800D is ace. I'd like one myself. The Matrix stuff is excellent, but that's getting bigger. Rack mount stuff in 1u or 2u options.
  15. They aren't heads. They are power amps with an EQ. I asked them when the first one came out about suitability for bass and they said no. So I didn't look further. There are a couple of threads on the fretboard where a design issue has been discovered where unplugging can lead to the user getting a jolt!
  16. Tort is nasty in all circumstances.
  17. I had an app on my ipad called "Sight Reading Trainer" and it was ace. I've recently upgraded my ipad and I can't find the app in the store anymore. Does anyone know if it has just been renamed, or if it is gone forever? It doesn't show up in my 'past downloads' list anymore. I really liked using it. It would show a couple of staves worth of music to sight read and then play it back to me so I could hear how it was supposed to sound like. Any ideas? Or for a replacement if the app isn't about any more. ta.
  18. I agree. P bass. Tone rolled off a little. Probably straight into the board. Bit of compression. maybe, just maybe some light muting going on. A lightweight and narrow bit of foam maybe.
  19. Do you mean the size of the parts or the different number of pole pieces? If the latter - just tape over them. Nothing more to see!
  20. I wish I had some GAS funds at the minute. I loved the old rack version all those years ago.
  21. Of course I do - I'd bring her sister as well.
  22. As long as there's no knickers, I'm game.
  23. Are newly built ones reliable now? I quite like the idea of having one.
  24. That might be a fair bit to do with the cab. It tops out at a pretty low 4 Khz. The tweeter cabs go all the way to 20 Khz - just like the Mark Bass Marcus cabs, and he's got plenty of top end.
