  1. He should be telling them.
  2. Sandberg California VS4 Passive. They tend to peek just over £1K, and about two thirds of that used. The ones you might see at £1200+ new will be the active ones or with the aged finish. Sandberg necks are lovely. The stock pickup can be a bit modern so maybe look for a used one and use the balance to stick in a nice Aguilar 60s wind pickup or a Fender custom shop one.
  3. 940 lb seems quite light for some of these.
  4. Right - I am loving the bass, the way it plays, feels etc etc.... but not the pickups without using my EQ-200 to sort it out. So I've ordered a set of the Aguilar DCB pickups. Hopefully arrive in a few days and I'll get them fitted next week.
  5. I love that band. Got to be a candidate for the most fun live band in the world a the moment.
  6. Loads of options. Almost every tune can be covered in a way that makes it fun.
  7. Interesting thread. I'd be amazed if you could assemble say 4 people and a 25 song set list where everybody likes every song, and even more amazed if all the liked songs were suitable for actually getting a decent covers gig. To me it comes down to the numbers. In a 25 song set list I would expect to really love maybe 5 of them. Enjoy another 10. Tolerate 5, and hate the rest. And I'd expect the rest of the band to have similar feelings. And if we are all mates, then I'll gladly play my mate's favourite tune that I hate if I get to play my favourite. And if regular Friday night gigs are the priority - then all that still goes out the window if the punters don't want to hear the songs I love. Now if you don't mind - I have to go and practice some Mariah for this years Xmas show..... [/urgh]
  8. I wonder just how upset the wife would be....
  9. I've got the Neotech Mega Bass Strap which is very nice if a little bouncy, and also a silly money Levi's 4.5 inch wide leather one that is a bit more rigid. Damn expensive though.
  10. These guys can make you one. I have a couple of theirs. https://www.originalscratchplates.com/ Or try Strings & Things as they are the official EBMM people for the UK. If EBMM actually make a clear one at all.
  11. better demo on that thread.
  12. I've told my wife it's your fault if I come home with a new amp over the next few days! She's scary. Good luck to you!
  13. That Fletcher Munson curve is a right git sometimes. Always have to EQ at gig volume for it to work properly. When I'm using my Helix then I have 2 sets of patches - good for the house and good for a gig. They are really very different but they work in their intended places.
  14. My local PMT has a few 800s in stock so I might arrange to trip to try a few and find a quiet one.
  15. I don't even have the bass anymore. It got too heavy for me after surgery. It is still the very best bass I've ever owned.
  16. I hate to ask [stuck record] but what's the fan noise like on the RM800? ta
  17. Tecamp / Eich are the cleanest amps I've ever used. Horrible things as a bass amp. Great as a power amp.
  18. No, just my wishful thinking. But if lots of us do it (and mention silent cooling of course) maybe it would happen.
  19. I've spoken to Dave a couple of times and he's been amazing. On one occasion it was because he just sent me an email by mistake and I called him to let him know and we ended up chatting for an hour! I may have mentioned that when the ABM 5 comes out with silent fans I'll have one straight away [/stuck record]
  20. What amps and / models are actually built in the UK now? Ashdown of course for the pro level stuff, but what about Orange? Are there any others anymore?
  21. I don't see MB washing their hands of their customers. They have a warranty and they have a repair network in place. You've already answered why they don't do the same as Behringer / Wharfedale. Those 2 examples are enormous companies with hundreds of times the resources. They will be absorbing some of the cost of those cheap parts and not passing them onto the end user. If you complained about Apple being a closed shop for repairs then I'd agree - they have enough money to do anything. But a small amp company that also makes a few basses and strings... not a chance unless they put the prices up first.
  22. I've had MB amps for years and aside from a "dead on delivery" F1 head many years ago they've all been rock solid. I'm also wondering if we are asking too much regarding the repair costs. Modern great sounding amps are very affordable but part of that affordability is due to the board configuration. Unfortunately loads of stuff made these days is uneconomic to repair or effectively impossible to repair because of the construction method and instead replacement of other still working bits is needed because they are all on the same board. While I'm very pleased that the EU is pushing the "Right to Repair" idea for some products it's not as simple as for others. Washing machines - lovely! Stop riveting stuff in and use screws for easy swaps etc. But for an amp? Or a GPU, or a control board in a washing machine? I'm sure MB could make a product that is easier to repair, perhaps with a modular board system to allow smaller parts of it to be replaced rather than all of it. But that will lead to a higher purchase price and it won't do anything about the labour costs. Seems to be the way of the world.
  23. Looks interesting. Another different EQ to the LM and the MM series. Although the text says the Highs are 3.8Khz but the photo shows 6Khz. The thing that really interests me is the Limiter. The new LM4 mentions a new bi-band limiter but it's on all the time without any controls. This has a control that is not well described. It could just be affecting the threshold but it might also be affecting multiple parameters with 1 knob. I'd like to know if it's 'just' a limiter or whether there is some other compression going on as well. Hopefully there will some demos of it. I seem to be looking for amps with built in compressors. The reasonably new Vintage head also has the limiter.
