1. Hey guys, Sadly is time for me to part with this awesome rig that has given me nothing but superb full fat bass tone over the past year and a half. Due to different (annoying) circumstances I have been forced to downsize even more I've used all kind of amps and cabs in the recent past (All valve, class D, Neo cabs, ferrite, ceramic... You name it!) and this rig, in my experience, has been the smallest and lightest I could make myself go without ANY compromise in sound. It's a full fat sounding rig that you can still fit in virtually any stage and in the boot of a Renault Megane hatchback (see pics). I've done loads of gigs with this rig but it was transported by me only and with maximum care, so apart from the usual minor scuffs on the metal corner protectors... Nothing to report. The rig consists of: - OB1-500 bass head with case (£400): ***SOLD*** - OBC210 MINI cab (£300): These are amazing cabs that somehow Orange decided to discontinue. When I tested the amp I tried it with the OBC212 isobaric cabs first and these 2x10 minis sounded so much better. The two combined sound just like the huge OBC810 (which I also tested), but only obviously not as loud. Still plenty loud, believe me. I never had any problems hearing myself with loud rock bands using this stack, or being heard. You'll struggle to find a more portable solution to achieve THAT 8x10 sound. This cab will also be a great mini fridge rig stacked vertically with a small class D amp, or the perfect match to any Orange cabs. Stack it on top of an OBC115 for a classic 1x15 + 2x10 rig or on top of an OBC410 for a 6x10 modular fridge https://orangeamps.c...ed/obc210-mini/ I'm based in Central London (Vauxhall) and would prefer collection due to the size of the rig and all the hassle involved in safely packing it all up for a safe delivery. Here's a track I recorded using this rig. It's a mix of the amp's DI and the mic-ed up cab. Produced by Mick Quinn (Supergrass), a man who knows a great bass tone when he hears one and he was well pleased https://open.spotify...fYHYHsZYCIikSKo And some pics: Any questions I'm here! Cheers, Eddie
2. 'Ideal starter instrument.' Ideal starter for a fire...
3. I've been using D'Addario Chromes on different basses for a few years now. Sold a bass with Chromes that were almost 2 years old and still sounding great. My current gigging P Bass has the same set of Chromes for 1 1/2 years now and still has plenty of clarity and definition in them too. And this bass has been played a lot! I thought about putting a new set on just for the sake of it, but... I think I'll see how far they can go.
4.
Well, it all changed when they stopped using the much heavier thread. New technology gloves just don't have what the old ones do best...
Hahaha!
5. Anyone noticed any lack of heft when wearing gloves?
6.
Motley Crue - Motley Crue John Corabi is such a better vocalist then Vince Neil, but the band popularity bombed on Neil's exit. Maybe it was because the album was a bit heavier / darker than previous.
Great album!
7.
I'll plug my fav dirt pedal, the Ashdown Lomenzo Hyperdrive. Great job!
This! I also own the Muff and it's a great pedal, but not for what you want. The LoMenzo Hyperdrive will do a great job in front of your Ampeg rig. It's been doing it for me for around 5 years now. Massively overlooked pedal probably because it's not manufactured in the US or some posh Scandinavian country. Search for the demo on YouTube with James LoMenzo himself explaining all about it.
8. I used a pair of Eden EX112s for 2 years with LOUD bands and they kicked ass every time. Of course the Aguilar TH500 helped too, but the Eden cabs were more than happy with anything the Aggie was throwing at them. In my opinion they are a bargain and somewhat of a hidden gem. Great cabs!
9. Post Pop Depression - Iggy Pop Great album with not one filler. Produced by Josh Homme.
10.
Pinched from The Gear Page forum: "IIRC, Guitar Center asked Pedaltrain to build a board and hardcase, but something that wasn't as expensive as their normal ATA hardcases. The result was the PT-1. The board is just fine, but the hardcase is a piece of crap. If you use it, it won't last 3 months. The PT-2 is 2 inches longer than the PT-1, that's the only difference. If you want a PT-1 softcase, just buy a PT-2 softcase. If nothing else, you can space your pedals out a little, and I guarantee somewhere down the road you'll be thankful for those extra 2 inches (yes, I know, TWSS)"
Thanks! I'll have a look if I can find a PT-2 soft case. Incidentally... I don't think the hard case is crap. It's quite solid and I've been using it for years even as riser for my cab(s) and it's still in one piece. It's a bit scuffed, of course, but that's the whole point of a hard case isn't it? To take the hits your gear would otherwise take...
11. As per the title... I have an older model Pedaltrain 1 that I bought second hand and it came with a hard case only. I had a quick look online and couldn't find a soft case for it on its own. Anyone knows where to find one? Doesn't have to be the original Pedaltrain gig bag thing. Cheers, Eddie
12. Never used the Soul Food, but from what I heard in the demos it sounds like it could get you there with the right amount of drive blended with the right amount of clean tone. Speaking of blending drive and clean signal... I'll leave this here: https://youtu.be/aQDSDA929Sw
13. Bought Paul's backup amp in the most painless transaction ever. Great guy to deal with! Thanks Paul!
14. I've been using a pair of the Orange OBC210s Mini and I think they are brilliant. One of them on their own probably would struggle against two Fender Twins, but combined they are mighty loud and go as deep as any good ported 4x10. I know you're asking about a single 2x10, but that's the best solution I could find. They're nice and small and quite light too so I would recommend you to have a look at those.
15. Jay bought a bass from me and he's a great guy to deal with. Great communication and quick collection and payment. Definitely recommended. All the best Jay!
16. After further reading, it seems that the only Fenders properly advertised as nitro are the Mexican made Classic Series Lacquer instruments. FSR Japan like mine are simply described as Lacquer. American Vintage are apparently finished in what's described as Fender Flash Coat Lacquer. Mexican Classic Series Lacquer are the only ones that with the word Nitro associated with them (Gloss Nitrocellulose Lacquer).
17.
So basically the same finish as everything else? Not sure why they would advertise it specifically as lacquer then! Not a put down at all, I love the Fender Japan stuff, just genuinely curious. And somewhat interested...
Exaclty... I don't get that either. All I can say from my personal experience is: - The finish does feel much thinner than that of modern Fenders; - On my other identical bass that's used frequently the the finish is already showing signs of ageing. Also... I was trying to find stuff on the web to clarify the matter and found this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/gds/Myths-about-Nitrocellulose-finish-for-electric-guitars-/10000000004635258/g.html
18.
I don't like buying things I haven't played, but I could be in London Saturday 9th if it's still around then. Played one, nearly bought one when they were in shops. Lovely instruments...
Hi Tom! They're lovely instruments indeed. I have a gig in Cornwall on the 9th so I'll be leaving London quite early, probably in the morning. Where are you based?
19.
What exactly is a non-nitro lacquer?
I didn't know there was a non-nitro lacquer 'till someone pointed it out above. I was told this was a nitro finish when I bought it and I thought that was the case. My other identical bass, which I've been using a lot has been aging nicely and much quicker than my poly finish basses and quite like that. It definitely feels like a much thinner finish than "normal". Hope than helps
20. Ok... I was actually thinking "Brexit schmexit", but in the past 5 days I had a sale fall through due to the insecurity of an EU dependant job and two of my regular residencies cancelled. Anyone else going through stuff like that? Back to topic and taking the above into consideration + the fact the I HAD to buy a new car that costed more than I planned to spend originally, this beast of a bass has now been reduced to a mere £600. That's £330 off the price I paid for it and it is NEW! No silly offers or I'll just keep the bass and go find Nigel Farage and throw a pie in his face! Thanks
21. Great to see Robert DeLeo mentioned a few times. He's definitely one of my favourites. I think my top 5 bassists in the way they influenced me are: - Paul McCartney - James Jamerson - John Paul Jones - Bruce Thomas - Robert DeLeo
