1. Thanks! It is a great bass for a great price indeed. I had a couple of trade offers but as I said before I'm only selling it to fund another bass I acquired.
2. I don't know how grimy you're talking about, but I had a pretty sweaty tour this summer and the satin finish on my P Bass was getting pretty sticky despite me cleaning it with a flannel after the shows as usual. I bought some Dunlop 65 guitar polish & cleaner as recommend by the guy in the shop and it worked really well. Not only for the neck but for the body too.
3. Hey guys. Topic resuscitation here. Unfortunately I'm having to sell mine If any of you guys haven't yet picked yours please check my ad: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/246746-fs-fender-modern-player-coronado-bass-ii-l400/
4. Didn't want to ever sell this one but I'm not involved anymore in both projects I bought it for and I just acquired something that will be a bit more useful in my current situation, so this gorgeous instrument has to go to help funding the newcomer. This is one of the first Modern Player Coronado II that came out in late 2013. The current ones don't have the 'II' in their names anymore and I don't know if there's anything else different. All I know is that this bass is really well put together and it looks, sounds, feels and plays like it costs at least a grand more. I think these basses are little gems and if they had USA instead of China written in the back of the headstock you wouldn't question it. They're ridiculously good instruments and more versatile than you would expect them to be, specially with the D'Addario Chromes with which it's strung now. Some really nice vintage Jazz and P sounds available but with its own lovely character to it. That old Macca sound is here too. The Fender Fidelitron pickups that come original in the Coronado are / were used by Fender in much more expensive Custom Shop basses. I'm asking £400 collected for it, or we can meet within reasonable distance to N3. I still have the original box and can use it to post it, but that would be at buyer's expense and I really prefer collection or meet because I get nervous about posting a bass. No trades please. Pics and video bellow. It's got a couple of really small dings (I have no clue what caused them ) and I tried to show them the best I could. Other than that it's as new. No swirling, knocks, or buckle rash. Ah... I still have the pickguard too. I just took it out because I think it's more comfortable to play like this and it looks nicer too. Test drives are more than welcome and include a hot beverage of your choice. Any questions give me a shout. 5. Sold a couple of my cabinets to Mark and he was an absolute pleasure to deal with from beginning to end. Great Basschatter! Thanks Mark!
6. Wow! Great price for a great amp! And I love what you did with the case GLWTS
7. Hey guys! Just checking if anyone out there has two SL 112s and is looking for a bigger rig. Some cash my way in case of a straight trade. These cabs are absolutely out of this world and the DB 212 and DB 210 are a perfect match sound wise, but in reality this rig is too big for 90% of the gigs I do The cabs are a few months old and, other than a few minor scuffs on some of the metal corners (really minor), are as new. The DB 212 comes with the Aguilar cover and the DB 210 comes with a Roqsolid cover. I did a tour with them in the summer. They performed amazingly in small clubs, larger clubs, big arenas, amphitheatres... They just sound great everywhere. I used them with my TH 500 and I never had to put the gain or the master above 11 o'clock and that's ridiculously loud. Now that I'm back playing mostly functions and smaller gigs in London I need something with a smaller footprint and easier to carry. Unfortunately I don't have the space or the money to keep two rigs so I'm thinking about getting two SL112s. I might sell the rig if someone wants to buy it, but at the moment I'm not willing to split it. The asking price is £950 Pics bellow:
8. Thanks for all the answers regarding the headstock guys!
9.
I remember reading somewhere that the thinking behind the thicker modern headstocks is that the extra mass (along with the posiflex graphite support rods) decreases the likelihood of having dead spots on the fingerboard.
I know... I honestly can't fault my American Special. With the mods I did it's probably the best P Bass I ever had (hush hush). But I'm really shallow and just think the original looks with the thin headstock is sexier.
10. Question: How thick are the headstocks on these basses? Are they thicker like modern Fenders or thinner like the real vintage ones? I know it's a minor thing but... I love my American special but it disturbs me when I look at the headstock and it's much thicker than on my older basses. Minor OCD I guess...
11. If you're still planning to use big cabs, try the Tone Hammer 500. You will be surprised.
12.
Coming from an Aguilar endorser, I understand this statement - which doesn't make too much sense. If you don't like the Aguilar baked in tone, you will not like the TH. I know quite a few people who have sold their THs because they could not get their sound out of it.
Of course taste is a subjective matter and I understand why some people wouldn't immediately like an amp or whatever piece of gear specially if they're used with something else. The reason I use Aguilar amps and cabs it's because after many years trying and owning pretty much everything else out there this is the only rig that does exactly what I want it to do. The Tone Hammmer it's miles apart from other class D amps I tried. It's loud but also "fat" sounding. Not skinny like so many I tried. All the notes have weight. Pretty much what Dood said above. It's got more than enough bite and top end but still plenty of balls. Check the link bellow. How's that for a slap tone? TH 500 + 2 DB 112's. Not the best sound (straight from the mobile camera) but I think you can have an idea. Do people really need more zing than that to play bass? And he's plugged into two smallish cabs. Has anyone here ever plugger their Tone Hammers into an 8X10 or 4X12? It's monstrous! SVT like balls. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeAECmaJ7Ms
13. That's my main gigging bass for almost two years now. Love the satin finish and mine is nicely worn and a bit bruised already too I did quite a lot of work on it though. Pickups are Fender Original Precison now and I took the Grease Bucket circuit out and put a 60's vintage spec by Kiogon. Put some 70's style Schaller running machines and had the frets Plek'd at Charlie Chandler's. It's a beast now Nice acquisition man!
14.
Haha, I'm the exception as per usual . I didn't dislike the stock pick ups but I thought a recent trad Wizard that i picked up sounded closer to my friends Fender 73 P when we A/B'd them....so I've stuck with the Wizard....for now!
I had a bass with a Wizard trad for a while and I thought it sounded really close to my 77 P. To my ears the P pickups Mark uses sound a lot like the Fender Original Precision Bass Pickups which is what I've been using on my basses for a while now. I don't know what he does to age them though, or if it affects the sound.
15. Thank you guys. Really curious about the pickups. Any idea how long it takes from the moment you place your order for the bass to be ready?
16. Hi guys! Does any one know approximately how long it takes for an order to be completed? All those sound samples sound great! Have you guys ordered specific pickups? Do you know which ones Mark uses as standard? I might be joining the team soon
17. That's exactly what I use. Much better than the gig bag IMO.
18. TH 500 user here. If you can't get the bass sound you want out of the Tone Hammer, then what you have in your head is not a bass sound Plug your TH 350 into good sensitive cabinets and you'll be in tone heaven.
19. Next week I'll be at the O2 Academy in Islington and that will be the 7th time I see Richie live. He's always been awesome and gets even better every time I see him. He's mega!
20. I've been using an Aguilar DB 212 with a DB 210 on top of it for a few months now. Super loud, articulated with plenty of punch and a nice round controlled bottom. With this rig I played arenas and amphitheatres in a rock band with two guitar players + loud drummer and a keyboard player with an actual Leslie speaker on stage and my Tone Hammer 500's master volume never had to be pushed beyond 11 o'clock with the gain around 10 / 11 o'clock. I think two DB 212's (or a 412) might be a little boomy on certain stages. The 212 and 210 are such a great match sound wise and also offer you a modular rig that's not so difficult to transport. I couldn't recommend it more. I imagine with an SVT Classic it would be even more amazing.
21.
Kiogon wiring loom and Fender Original/62 would be my choice for vintage tone.
Precisely what I use on my American Special and it sounds just as good as my vintage P. Another very important thing to keep in mind is the right strings to achieve the sound you want. I use D'addario Chromes and with the tone control full up I still get a lot of growl and enough presence to cut through any mix finger style, with a pic or slapping. Tone control rolled off to taste and you can have as much Motown as you want. Ah... And a proper set up too.
22. Did you buy directly from their website, Loz?
