most of my basses seem to end up with flatwounds fitted, so flats would be my first choice, i definitely want BEADG though as that is what i find most useful. I believe that LaBella and Dunlop both make short scale 5 string flats so some investigation might be required as i've not used either of those brands before (current basses wear Ernie Ball group flats, D'addario Chromes, GHS precision flats and Status ground wounds.) i bought a pair of the zs10 pros on amazon, i went for some of the inairs foam tips, i seem to remember a chart that showed which tip fitted each particular IEM INAIRS - Memory Foam Tips – INAIRS Foam Tips (getinairs.com) I believe that the zs10 pro is a different size to the original zs10 so make sure you get the right size, if you have a set of callipers you could measure the diameter and compare that to the different tips available. my '77 Fender Precision came with a set of flats when i bought it about 10 years ago, they were a used set that the previous owner found in the cupboard, they sounded perfect, they're still fitted and i have no intention of changing them (although i did get them identified as Ernie Ball group flats by the experts on here so i know what they are should i ever need to find another set) I also fitted a set of Chromes to my Letts 5 string when i bought it 8 years ago, they won't be changed until they break as they sound fab. another option if you don't mind spending some cash might be one of the conversion necks a that Retrovibe sell, designed to fit onto a guitar body and make it into a 30" or 32" scale bass, i've looked at them a few times but the opportunity for something else came up. the necks are designed for a telecaster body but with a bit of modding i'd imagine that fitting to a strat body shouldn't be a problem 30.6" 32" Matt

I fitted ghs precision flats to my short scale aria and they work great for me, it's got a great p-bass tone and the strings feel right under my fingers. Matt

Thanks, I've actually cut up a couple of the cheap ikea hangers to use the timber for projects, the nicer hangers are hardwood as well. This is my p-bass, I really should make a neater one and get some better screws, these were just old ones from my parts stash. Matt

I have done something similar on my p-bass, i used a section of a wooden clothes hanger as it was already nicely profiled, my P-bass is an old 77 that has been modded many times so already had the 2 holes for the thumb rest, and there are some random extra holes so i just ran between a couple of those, i'll try and get a photo later. i think that using a couple of the scratchplate holes might work if you wanted a long thumbrest. it's not the cheapest but this one seems to match the requirements and i would expect it to be reliable and stable. RS PRO 14V dc Power Supply, 35W, 2.5A | RS Components (rs-online.com) you will need a "figure of 8" cable for it but they're very common so i would expect you would have one somewhere already. the only thing i would check is the size of the plug, the rs one is a very common size (5.5x2.1) which i belive is the same as the standard pedal input size as used by Boss et al. Subscribed, this is an interesting project, if the neck is totalled then have you thought about making a new more double bass like one as a replacement? that would allow you to alter the angle at the same time and give you the chance to get the profile to your liking. Matt

for cable you might do well to speak to @obbm as they have an advert up for the last of their stash of cable, (Klotz and Sommer, both of which are top quality) For many years OBBM was the go-to person when it came to Instrument leads, i know that there are many happy customers on Basschat (including myself) Instrument and Mic Cable - Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale - Basschat I make my cables with Klotz AC110 and Neutrik plugs, never had an issue with either, i also use Sommer and Van Damme cables and they're all top notch. I usually buy my plugs from RS or CPC depending where has the best price at the time or what other things i need. Matt

Did you try the standard hiscox bass case or the large version, I've been told that the large one will fit a Ric (but I've kot owned a Ric so have never tried it in person) Matt

It's hiscox for me, I think I've got 10 at last count for basses and guitars, I've tried other brands but the protection never seems as good as the hiscox, I know you prefer rectangular cases but I've yet to find one that I trust as much as a hiscox. Matt

I started out with an Ashdown 4x8 (neo swapped with Ashdown drivers) and it did have plenty of Punch and didn't seem to struggle with the low B on my old yamaha, I swapped to 1x12's for portability and extra oomph, bought a pair of the Gen 2 Barefaced Midgets, I get more oomph out of one of them than the 4x8 could offer, it just moves more air, and there's still plenty of punch. admittedly I'm comparing 2 quite different approaches to cab design though (the Ashdown was 20kg whilst the Midgets are 9kg each.) i was in a very similar situation and bought a Zoom MS-60B, it works great as an occasional pedal, mine got moved on as i realised that I was barely using it and wanted the space for a dedicated chorus pedal as that was what I had it set to 99% of the time anyway. I think I sold mine for 55 quid a month or two back, for the money they're very good. Matt
