1. I use a gig bag for general gigging for my Squier P as it is a workhorse bass. My American standard stays in it case at all times, although I agree about the car boot.
2. Ernie Ball Super Slinkies 45 to 100 Gauge
3.
Skynyrd did some great stuff and Freebird is one of the best. I've been playing "Don't Ask Me No Questions", this morning. Love it all.
We do Freebird (albeit without the piano) and I must say the bass part is quite tricky. Theres a lot going on, little fills and runs etc, in the long guitar solo fadeout.
4. I dont understand what the problem is with this song. We are entertainers. We are there to entertain people, and if thats what they want, thats what we give them. If we only played songs we like, it,ll be a very short set!!
5.
OK. this is the transcription for the whole song from a 1993 guitar magazine. Our guitarist has shed loads of these mags and always seems to have transcriptions for the songs we need. Enjoy. Edit. I had a look at Evil Undead's tab and it's good, but it's only for the first half of the solo. The second half is different, although you could repeat the first half. I have done a few variations of this when I have forgotten the order and mixed it up and also changed a few notes. It's worth doing it right if you can and also getting the correct rhythm variations between the verses and all the runs. Also we keep the syncopated bit in the 2nd verse the same as the 1st verse to make it easier. That second verse bit is odd! Our drummer did it in his old band and the bass player did some real lame-ass version for the whole song. Don't make that mistake. BTW you need a decent drummer to get the feel right.
Thanks for that! and Evil Undead too Seems I wasnt too far off. Its a great line, any idea who played it?
6. Anything with12 strings is not a bass
7. Can anyone help me work out what is going on under the guitar solo? I have worked out the first few bars of the solo, but it seems to go off on a tangent with those chromatic runs. I dont want to use tabs as they are probably are all wrong. I like to use my ear, but must admit it has me beat.
8. It is not really well known that George Harrison was quite good on the bass himself. Take a listen to 'She Said, She Said, Maxwells Silver Hammer and Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight are a few examples of Georges bass prowess, Unlike John Lennons awful cock ups on The Long & Winding Road which makes me cringe when I hear it!!
9. My 2011 American Standard P bass. I have owned a few American guitars in the past, but this one is my favourite.
10. Played in a local club this evening, picked up the P bass and plugged in. Began the first number and CLANG!! guitar and strap parted company and gravity won. Still, I dont think it done any damage to the guitar
11.
Rain is my favourite, the drums are ace on that too
I first heard that as a teenager in the early 80,s when I first picked up the bass, I had never heard the bass played so high up the neck before! It was my first experience of Macca as a bassist and not just a vocalist.
12. The whole of the Sgt Pepper album is bass heaven for me, especially The Benefit Of Mr Kite!
13.
Under Pressure by Queen. Basically a two note riff, but a complex rhythmic feel.
Should read:

15. Stranger from another planet, welcome to our hole! - Just strap on your P Bass and we,ll play some rock and roll!!
16. Be advised though, that the Bass Gallery has a very imposing steel shutter pulled down over the front window, and you cant get in the door unless you press the security buzzer.
17. Wunjos in Denmark Street has been much recommended on here recently, as is the bass gallery. The gallery is a bit out of central London, in Camden. http://wunjoguitars.com/ http://www.thebassgallery.com/
18.
I polished the fret wires so they gleam and give non scrapey bends, and bees wax oiled the fret-board.
Cant argue with that can you? 19. I use one of these, and find its well loud enough for most of the gigs I do. There is a line out if you want to run through the PA, and the 15" speaker gives a really nice punch. 20.
I'm so glad you said that, I've got some SD SPB1's coming for my Korean Squier. And a new wiring loom care of KiOgon.
Copycat !! It will sound great mark my words. Heres a good price with free delivery: http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/1288-seymour_duncan_spb_1_vintage_for_p_bass
21. I,m still waiting to see if I have a gig on Saturday night. So will probably end up paying full price nearer the time. I dont really want to go on Sunday as I have a 24 hour flight that evening!
22. I have an old Korean Squier with a lovely neck and a nice sunburst body. I put in a Seymour Duncan SPB1 pickup and it sounds great! People often comment on the sound of the bass after gigs.
23. The headstock from my old 1977 P bass. Here the changes are obvious.
24. Good lord! that is the sort of thing you would expect to see if MDP was let loose with a spray gun!!
25. AKG D5. Its what I use, and has a nice warm deep sound.
