1. I cant play if the action is too low, plus you lose some volume too. I play quite hard so I like it a bit on the high side (about 4mm) However, the opposite is true on my Telecaster which is set quite low indeed!
2. SD SPB3 pickups I believe. Maybe it was converted to active in a previous life which resulted in the jack socket being moved so as to free up more space under the pickguard for all the extra gubbins??
3. The Pretenders - Kid Just C Am F G with a subtle Key change to E Walking bass heaven for me! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyCbkI9EgEA
4. Chris Rea - Driving Home For Christmas I think i,ll get my Phil Spector Xmas album out, which is rather ironic seeing as Phil Spectors not getting out!!
5. That is awesome!!
6. I didnt want the strings anyway!
7. Another vote for JJB and Foxton. Also Macca.after hearing Sgt Pepper for the first time!
8. I bet MDP is watching that!!
9.
Ah the Rutles...that takes me back
Ouch!
10. So whos going to Saturdays show so far? And whos up for the Sunday? Bluejay's good at these sort of things.
11.
This - reluctantly & sadly.
+1
12.
Totally agree. Some very good songs on those albums and I shouldn't think anyone in the audience will be listening out for a note-for-note bass line at a Christmas party.
Exactly, but It makes a bit more enjoyable for the bassist to play something a bit more challenging dontcha-think?
13. Oh, bit far out, otherwise I would have popped in for a bit! - Have a goodun though!!
14. Where are you playing??
15. Been asked to do some Oasis stuff for an upcoming Christmas party, and had a listen to that album just now, and the bass totally sucks. Theres some nice chord work going on here in some numbers giving the opportunity for some nice crafted lines. Instead all we get are rooted chords, which leads me to believe that a guitarist played bass on the album, as this is typical of guitarists who pick up a bass. I cant believe a bass player couldnt string together a few passing notes. Sorry for the rant, but I,m not a big Oasis fan
16. Theres a clip on you tube showing Slade playing 'Mamma Weer All Crazee Now' live and being booed! I wonder why?
17. Its a pain. The last rehearsal we were tight and everyone was on form. Then in a few weeks it,ll be 'Sorry I forgot thats my cue' It seems to me that theres less practicing recently due to unplanned incidences!
18. Tomorrows practice is now off as the drummer has the Novo virus. Just once I would like to have a regular rehearsal without someone coming down with something or having a domestic issue! Sigh! Rant over. As you were.
19. Lead is not that difficult to master. Once you learn your pentatonic and blues scales its plain sailing
20. Rather apt thread, being as we lost John Lennon today 32 years ago
21. I started off on bass, but learned guitar a few years later. It made it easier to understand the relationship between major and minor. And made me appreciate the bass a bit more as I understood how basslines worked.
22. Theres a pub across the road, thats where I,ll be warming up!!
23. A satellite? probably late 70,s
24.
They've had 8 bass players and counting! The Beatles are probably top of the list, they literally would have been screwed without Macca in many senses.
Actually, Macca was not always on bass, a lot of bass was played by Harrison and a lesser extent by Lennon
