He's based in Stoke Newington.
oooh - top tip...i live in tottenham...he's just round the corner many thanks..i've just sent an email.
  2.
Haha "This one's going to need some new dilithium crystals... I think I can get them but I'll let you know"
you're losing me here folks...is this an example of their attitude ? i miss living in newcastle and having howard on my doorstep.
  3. the bass i'm putting together for the festival date in two weeks needs a p-up rout enlarging and a set-up... any ideas for a fast-working luthier in london, preferably centrally-based. ideally i'd like it done by the end of next week] any ideas ?
So you have three settings. OFF, Clean on (with or without the colour preset and active EQ ON) , Clean + Drive (with active EQ ON)
when you engage the drive channel, the colour circuit is automatically included in the signal path
Sorry if this is re-hashing old ground but what does this do that a Sansamp doesn't?
a lot of it depends if you like the sound of a sansamp really. i didn't like that it did to my sound, and thought the overdrive was weak. ymmv also the mxr has a noise gate on the distortion channel, and you can switch the distortion on and off and still keep the clean channel activated.

the eq works with the colour switch in or out.

used this for the first time as a di box last night. the soundguy seemed very impressed...i just used the 'colour' switch and cut the treble slightly. lovely sound...shook the stage until my bandmates demanded it was turned down a bit - spoilsports
  8.
My mate had his lungs, kidneys and liver removed and he kept playing.
presumably he wasn't an organist
  9. can't you nick some scrap timber from a skip ? much cheaper if you just want some firewood
  10.
Didgeridoo?
i thought we were talking musical instruments here, not fashion accessories for trustafarians
  11.
you'll enjoy it gunna be trying out new valves in it soon, looking at GT 12ax7-m and sovtek 12ax7-wb (i think thats its name)
have you thought about different gain valves ? 12au, 12at, etc.
  12. who knows...but i'm finding this more and more to be honest. at last practise, the band before us didn't clear out of the room until gone the time we were meant to start, and then no apology. i've seen bands 'soundcheck' and play half the songs in their set (nobody obviously told them that you don't need to do whole songs to soundcheck !!) sadly, musicians are no different to the majority of the public...they're stupid, self-centred and arrogant.
  13. a peavey 410t...my old workhorse, but the swr is smaller and lighter
Either way, how many training days and courses and etc do these teachers get? I couldn't beleive that my music teachers were expected to teach this music tech A level (and they thought they could!) based on a manual from roland. They couldn't even search google for help if they got stuck!
aaah, the fun when top-loading video recorders first appeared in classrooms...
  15. don't ask me, i'm just the bass player
  16.
although i will say that generally i think mxr pedals are a little on the expensive side
they are a tad pricey but i think the sounds are worth it. and they're much cuter than boss pedals ^_^
  17.
I don't rate most boss effects pedals, maybe the tuner, the EQ, the Noisegate, the Delays, basically utility pedals like that are ok but I can't stand any of their 'tone dependent' stuff. I've used a bunch of them including wahs, distortions, compressers, phasers etc., the modded CS3 I think is decent but better for guitar or vocal than for bass but all my boss stuff now has been sold and replaces with, MXR, Aphex, EHX and Korg pedals. On the other hand most of their effects are excellent for electric guitars.
plus the one. boss may be bulletproof, but imho they are pretty poor when it comes to the sounds they make. they do good tuners tho. i much prefer mxr or ehx tbh. as for the behringer vs. boss...i'd say it al depends on what you wnt it for...
  18.
If you anchor your thumb on the pickup and play the E string, you're probably bringing your plucking finger back to rest on your thumb. So when you play the A string, bring your plucking finger back to rest on the E string, and so on!
oh ? i do that anyway..except when i'm playing bass properly..with a plectrum.
  19.
here, try this exercise: http://www.basssessions.com/aug04/triplet.html
i'm prolly being dense, but i don't understand what's being described there...what does the author mean by "allowing your finger to come to rest on the string directly below it."
  20. i loved my yamaha md8..iirc you could 17mins of 8-track, 34 mins of 4-track, etc. i've still got it - the minidisc section doesn't work, but the 8-track desk does - it was a nice-sounding mixer
  21. i've no idea what the difference is i'm afraid. i can't remember what happened if you put a datadisc in an audio minidisc player.
  22. found it whilst clearing out - i used to use them in my 8-track back when it still worked. it's been unwrapped, but iirc, never used. free to good home
  23. ...sounded brilliant can't say how impressed i am with the sound. it really handled the gig well and my overdriven sound has never been so good. thick and punchy....good enough to warrant compliments from both guitarists yoysah ! i lurv SWR !!! p.s. i also used a volume pedal for the first line live too...sounded great making swells with some reverb and delay. p.p.s. we were videoed too....OOCH !
  24. i use a tlk board and our keyboard player has one for her korg as well. i wouldn't throw them in and out of aircraft but they're fine for the price i think. but the cloth on the inside does come away - i stapled mine down but it's still looking a bit tired.
