1.
Hi ahpook, I bought the pre off Dood and he had replaced the tubes with the Harma's. The pre was very quiet when I used it with the Crown amp and it's a little noisier with the IP310 cab I'm using now. I definitely think that the SVP is more suited to certain combinations and it's a sensitive piece of gear but it sounds great. It would be great to have all the best valves to hand to try to see which best suited our set ups but the best we can hope for are well informed tests, otherwise, it would cost a fortune. Steve.
thanks steve (and everyone else !!) i think you've decided for me harma's it is !!!
 2. i think i'm going to treat my ampeg to a new set of valves. i've really no idea what to go for...the pre uses 4 12ax7s and a 12au7... i'd like to reduce the noise the preamp puts out a bit if possible. any ideas ?
 3.
I saw someone with a Hiwatt 400 valve head at a show once, which had 4 inputs. He had a short patch lead connecting two of these. Just wondering what this was in aid of? Sorry if it is painfully obvious, I was just intrigued
i think on some valve amps with two inputs you can cascade them to get more overdrive.
 4.
My '75 Precision. first decent bass I ever had, mine from new...
my first decent bass was a late 70's precision. i sold it and bought a westone...which i also miss
 5.
Only tried the reds. You are probaly better off with fuse-wire!
ahhh well, i ordered a set of reds to try them out.
 6.
I've agreed a price on the one attached - may be the one on Loot but I can't see that link now. Seemed like a bit of a steal at just under £250 so agreed a deal quite quickly. Just fancied something to noodle around on at home
that's lovely fantastic price too...
 7. i think the soundtech has 40mm fans..it's only 1U high. checking around it looks lke there's plenty of choice...i just need to check the exact dimensions of te fans
 8. well i had a look inside the soundtech - they're unbranded fans with no spec on them except the supply voltage and current. but they do use plug-in cinnectors on the circuit board, so i i do decide to replace them it should be easy to swap them over. just need to guesstimate a fan rating.
 9.
I didn't notice there way a fan noise on my amp till right now. But the Trace I have is extremely quiet, which next to my PC or 360 is barely noticeable as the other two are very very loud.
hmm....my trace's fan is very loud...much louder than my pc.. i might pull the sountech out tonight and see what the rating of the fans is...then check out the alternatives. and i'm sure you're right cheddatom, the fan's don't need to be on for home volumes...
 10.
Nice looking bass, been oggling rics/ricalikes myself lately. Is it me or do those pups look huge?
nope, they are indeed huge ! actually you might be hard-pressed to use the top of the pickup as anchor..
 11.
And graphite
good point
 12. agreed, apart from the usual 'bent bit of tin' bridge.

 14. it was good...we played flappers, a venue in brimingham. we were seriosuly worried that we weren'y going to make soundcheck cos of the traffic on the m25 and m1, but we made it in the end. the new intro/song we started with went a bit random, but as it's only really a drone-based jam we did ok... after that it kicked off into a storming gig...and it took us 3 hours on the button to get back to london.
We always rehearse in my house with an electric kit and everything through headphones - it's cheap, and everything gets recorded.
i think when we do it again i'll suggest a few extra cables and getting the hard drive whirring to record what we're doing. good plan !
 17.
The one on Loot is an Electro I (a bit cheaper than the new one). The Electro I had Maple neck, Rosewood board, piezo (no magnetic pickups) and didn't have the Rosewood top neither. I'd buy this bass in a heartbeat if I wasn't a builder myself.
ack...shame about the lack of a pickup
 18. just spent a very productive 3 hours round at our guitarists house...having a quiet practise. the drummer was using a set of electronic drums, fed through the quitarists home studio monitors and the rest of us were pretty darn quiet...you could easily make yourself hear without really raising your voice. it was a real revelation...i for one felt less 'in a world of my own' and it felt much more like a jam than running through the set a few times. everyone seemed to be listening to each other a lot more, and the odd musical joke crept in here and there...dropping shadows licks into the middle of songs that are usually a wall of noise for instance. i'd heartily recommend it. certainly set us up fr the gig tomoz night in brum !
 19.
Theres one on Loot for a little bit less : http://www.loot.com/advert/bass-guitar-/19959553
wow...wish i could give ti a try...i love the look of those statuses. fretted though
 20.
Yeah that'd be great if you could...
plus the on eon abide by me..many thanks
 21.
Hmm, I recently arranged Claire De Lune for my 7 string, and it sounded pretty cool. Don't know if it is the kind of thing you're after, but it sounds pretty on bass
weird !! i've recently been getting hold of lots of back issues of 'bassist' magazine to get look at some solo bass arrangements (the advantage of working in a national library is that i can get hold of such things) and one of the first ones i got hold of was 'clare de lune' !! but i'm currently working on "feeling groovy (59th st. bridge song)" what i'm actually looking for it 'abide by me', which i remember being tabbed out somewhere in 'bassist'
 22. ok....here's mine... bass >> boss tu-2 >> fulltone bass driver 2 mosfet (set for a low-ish gain overdrive and a heavier overdrive boost setting) >> red onion effects loop (to cut the tone-sucking boss delay out and also so i can turn the delay and the phaser on/off in one go) >> boss dm-3 delay >> ehx small stone phaser (for general wierdness in between songs, and some sonic mangling at the end of the set) >> mxr bass di + (clean channel set as a volume boost to drive my ampeg a bit and to fight the guitarists as they turn themselves up during the gig and the distorted channel in case i want to go OTT with the fulltone and the mxr's distortion)
