i've had one on my fender vi since i bought it...not problems so far.

girlfren says she might keep my no. 1 bass (the fender jazz), everything else goes to my best mate in preston, to do with as he sees fit.

are the pole pieces on the pickup staggered ? just curious...they are on my sabre

playing with fingers isn't 'proper' playing any more than playing with a plectrum is. i tend to play with a plectrum at lot more than i do with fingers simply because i prefer the sound. i'm also a lot better at it. that's not to say i don't play fingerstyle...

i'm a bit too scared of the plate voltages on valves to go down that route. i've built plenty of op-amp and tranny-based circuits before, so i'd prolly be looking at that again. that kit looks good, but a bit too pricey tbh

just mooching round the 'net i found [url="http://www.albertkreuzer.com/preamp.htm"]this[/url] again, something i stumbled across a while ago. in my quest to get rid of the 'annoying fan' situation i've just scored a cheap [i]silent[/i] power amp from ebay and i thought i might try to cook up my own pre to go with it. anyone ever tried this ? know of any good schematics ?

ok, here's mine. it used to have some mods (hence the two small switch holes between the vol and tone controls), but now it's back to stock. it's lovely, but it's mainly used for 'on the knee' noodling whilst watching tv these days. as i said...[i]could[/i] be up for sale.

perhaps cos it's pick-up only ?

not to my taste, but then i'm not a huge fan of figured woods.

just to add i've just come back from practise where i was using a peavey solid state bass head and an ampeg 8x10, with the eq on the head set flat...just relying on the mxr for eq. sounded fabby...both with and without the distortion channel.
