1. is the mxr one of the recent models ?
2. very tidy work - what kind of foam did you use ?
3. i used to have one, but i id it somewhere.
4. hang on tho - losing my religion. bass is nice to play, but it's such an insipid song.
5.
What I love to do is have an overdrive for a nice main tone, then kick on the fuzz (with a clean blend) for heavier parts. I put an emphasis on ALL the frequencies (especially low and mid) with my overdrive so that comes through with fuzz on top of it.
this is what i've found with using blended fuzz. unless you want a layered sound (clean and fuzz). if you add a fuzz to an already overdriven bass sound it meshes the two tones together better. that's why i like my wounded paw battering ram - with the fuzz on there's still the overdriven sound underneath the blended-in fuzz.
6. i couldn't stand 'sex on fire' until the covers band i'm in started doing jt. now i actually think it's a tidy little bassline that fits the song well, and i enjoy playing it. we do 'dakota' as well, which isn't my favourie song in the world, but i try to take the view that, well....it's a covers band. it'll be as enjoyable as i let it be.
7. lovely looking bass - i like the black/red combo as well. deffo deserves a few more outings

12. take your precision bass, and choose half-a-dozen songs that fit the 'rock music' description and learn them, so that if they look to you for suggestions you've got something you can play. other than that there's not much you can do... what can they expect of you if they won't tell you anything ?
13.
ah yes, I'm actually not that bothered about the Q, so anything with a semi-parametric EQ that goes down to the bass frequencies would do.
well i can vouch for the SWRs - i love my baby baby blue. having the para eq really shows you what a little bit of boost or cut at just the right frequency can do. i've got a studio 220 head as well which has four (count them ! four ! ) bands of parametric eq. that's for sale btw
14.
Indeed. Not that I'm necessarily looking at buying anything at the moment, I thought compiling a list of them might be useful to someone. It seems to make sense that a bass amp would have this as a feature. Most do not, therefore I'm also wondering why that might be?
just to say - neither of the SWRs you mention have Q-control on the parametric eq - you can adjust the frequency and boost/cut, but not the Q
15.
Ouch. Very wrong. Wrong bridge, wrong pickup position, wrong controls, wrong neck plate, body's probably a faker too... maybe the neck might be original. Should I be a frothing pedant and message the seller?? I suspect he wouldn't give a stuff...
i report all ebay scams i see - do this one for me would you ? ta la
16. would make the perfect wedding present http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0xrg8OrZIM&feature=fvwrel i'll get me duffle coat

Sorry couldn't resist lol. Coat...
POST OF THE DAY !
18. and he rode the crappest musicman in the west
19. i'm still very impressed by my wounded paw black sheep for that kind of sound (i had to check a you tube recording of 'frankenstein' to see what you meant tho)
20. i did play one gig with a bin by the side of the stage to throw up in and at one point thought i'd sharted myself, so somehow had to manage playing and throwing up without turning my back on the audience in case there was some evidence of my lack of sphincter control seeping through my trousers.
21.
We make sure we have a varied set list (all covers) to cover all eventualities these days. However, a few years ago we played at a British Legion locally, and although being booked as a blues/rock band, after 3 songs the duty manager said some of the 'older' punters were moaning etc, saying we weren't the right sort of entertainment. We turned down a bit and played a few tunes slightly less rock/bluesy and things calmed a bit - then, some children in the club, including a couple with Downs syndrome asked to come up and sing, to which we obliged and made them part of band for a few numbers. The 'older' punters attitudes totally changed towards us and we suddenly were the greatest band they'd ever had. Funny how things work out
now that's how to handle situations like this. well played that man.
22. womb rock anyone ?
23. the vendor replied, admitting his mistake and has amended the listing. god is in his heaven, etc.
24. might be worth trying the head with a different cab, just to ensure it's not the amp that's at fault.
