But if you don't build your own stuff and know little about electronics (which I'm told is true....but I don't believe it ) then I suppose it looks like magic.

Here's an old friend returned to the fold. I sold this bass to a friend a few years ago as he wanted to learn to play bass, now he's getting serious about it he's upgraded himself to a Status the Precision's back with me. It has a (I think) CV Jazz neck, a Seymour Duncan QP and a Gotoh bridge. Saw me through a gig in driving horizontal rain in Wales once - I unplugged at the end of the set and poured the water out of the input socket. What a trooper EDIT: This actually used to belong to Simon1964 - blimey, did I really buy it (first time round !) in 2009 ? Been playing it lots this weekend. A P with a Jazz neck - superb !

I go DI all the way these days. The speaker sim in my EBS MircoBass tames any nastiness from any distortions I use and I know exactly what sound is going to the PA. Bass -> various effects > Tronographic Rusty Box > EBS MicroBass > PA The Rusty Box acts as my amp head and the EBS (set pretty flat on the drive channel) acts as my speaker, and any bass amp ontage is really just for mid-heavy monitoring. I've had many compliments from engineers about how i) good the sound is and ii) how easy I make it for them.

I had a Dean Rhapsody 8-string for a while and it was lovely. Not super-pricey when they do turn up.

It's all I use mine for apart from making laser noises with the rest of the settings.
