1.
TA DA!.....
i've only just noticed this thread that's amazing !
2.
was never into the cure but after reading the posts i will check out the bass lines, any more from that era you would recommend?
Oooh, tough one. They've been around for a while, so there's lots of choice, and different styles. 'Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me' would be a good starting album - 'Seventeen seconds' and 'Faith' are very bass heavy, as is 'Pornography', but they're pretty heavy going, mood-wise.
3.
I have got the urge to watch the Cure In Orange video. Yeah, the actual video tape...
plus the one
4. Certainyly looks like it could do with some Penicillin
5.

Oh yes, indeedy !
6. Another vote for a CV Jazz - very impressed with mine.
7.
Yup. Allegedly Hookys mother was listening to the radio when Inbetween Days came on and thought it was him playing. The high doubled strings bit could be done on a standard 4 string or a VI, the aforementioned Orange vid has Gallup playing it on his 'Ray, with Smith sporting an acoustic as I recall. A Forest - awesome, particularly live...
Ah yes, but Porl Thompson's on the VI !!
8.
Oh. I am a 17 Seconds kind of guy (?). I'd love to play A Forest in a gig.
plus the one
9.
Legend has it Hooky was none too pleased at Gallup being 'heavily influenced' by him on Inbetween Days.
Which bit ? The introducton ? i'd wager that's Robert Smith on a Fender VI - most of the higher-register bass parts on Cure songs are. Gallup sometime plays them live on the bass IIRC.
10.
Fascination Street - such a great bass line to play.... The Cure in Orange - is that the one where Simon rips the wig off Robert Smith and he's left with a crewcut? I remember Shake Dog Shake being pretty damn awesome on that vid......
too right - it's a brutal version. damn fine live vid - i remember 'push' being a good'un too. god, i used to love the cure
11. more drops than a skrillex set
12. Well.....if you squint I suppose it looks like a spaceship.
13. It's not a flying V, it's a flying wing !
14. I had the same plan with my stunt jazz - a Classic Vibe Jazz....instead of taking my 86 MIJ Fender Jazz in softcases on trains, toilet gigs, etc. BUT it played that well that I got some new pickups for it (Wizard 84s) and I'm very happy. Stay with what you know you like and upgrade would be my advice.
15. Lovely
16.
Here are some pics, they look ace, really lovely! Easy to apply too.
lovely !
17. Yep - an older-model stingray (there were green-fronted versions too) - I have a vague memory of them being 125 or 150W. There was a time when every practice studio in Newcastle had one or two of these. Not a mind-blowing sound IIRC but for £30...? It'll make him louder !
18. I cut my bassplaying teeth learning Cure basslines. Top bass player.
19. sweetly overdriven bump
20. i've heard dannybuoy use this on bass live and it sounds excellent.
21. Just realised i do have a pic of my two Status basses - a T-bass and a Shark, lurking on the right here
