1. I had a 40-100 set on an old Warwick of mine. Similar in character and feel to the Nickel DR strings, without the price tag
2. Mine is from Rich Tone Music, built in January this year so as new as can be. Again, must stress the hiss is unaffected by any EQ settings or volume, remains constant. Of course, on increase VPF settings the main speaker hisses more at high volume, but the tweeter remains exactly the same. Will be completely drowned out at gig and practice volume, in fact anywhere after 9oclock on the Master, but it is louder than the fan and noticeable below this. Not ideal for home practice or studio use. However, from what I have read it looks like it is par for the course with tweeters that do not have attenuators, but have contacted the shop anyway to see if they have experienced issues with tweeters before.
3. Don't get me wrong, it would not be an issue at all at a gig or a band practice, I'm probably making a big deal out of nothing, I don't believe I have ever had a speaker with a piezo tweeter before. One thing I can say, the hiss from the tweeter is completely unaffected by volume or EQ settings and is louder than the fan.
4. So it turned up today and sounds great. However, very notable issue from the off; the piezo tweeter has a pretty loud hiss going on. A hiss that is still there even with the master volume all the way off and no bass plugged in. Is this typical of piezo tweeters or is something wrong with it? Didn't notice this in the shop but then I guess at home its a different environment. The tweeter does not get louder as you turn the volume up and eventually hiss from the 12" takes over it anyway, so I imagine this is normal but its seems loud at home practice volume, and of course there is no volume control or way of turning it off.
5. Blimey, first thumb I have seen that has better grain than my old 90 one! Is that weight accurate, as that is incredibly light for a thumb NT.
6. How someone can list pictures on eBay with that poor quality of lighting is beyond me...
7. Still here, off work this week so would really be convenient if I sold it in the next few days!
8. What an instrument! Should be snapped up at a silly price like that
9. I hope my little comment didn't give that impression, and my apologies if it did! Open discussion (without getting personal) very much welcome and I for one am very keen to hear what Dawsons' have to say for themselves!
10. Now that's interesting, you own an 801 and an 802? Any particular reason for owning both? I'v decided to go for.....the CMD121p! Ordered and should be with me next week! Reason being the cost; cheapest I was getting the Micromark for in the UK was £450; for £250 more I have been able to by a much more flexible amp and not sacrificed much at all in conveniance of size/weight, and this way I have the power and volume if I need it. The 802 just seemed far too expensive for what you got, so that never made the cut. I shall report back
11. One of two Markbass combos I am looking at, glad to here you like it!
12. Rosetti are great. Bizzarely, the Schaller lock on the top horn my Ricky wasn't cut correctly and didn't fit my straplocks (bottom one fine, weirdly!). Contacted Rosetti, within a few days a new Schaller set was sent to me FOC
13. Thanks for your comments Ed, really appreciated. I had an LMII a few years ago and found myself leaving the EQ flat and just using the VPF and VLE. I know the 801 does not have the VLE, but I can't imagine the lack of tone control with bother me too much. I have a B7K that can be used as a 4 band preamp if needs be I am now finding myself looking at the cmd 121p, not exactly massive in comparison and plenty of power should I ever need it. Decisions!
14. Let's stay on topic and play nicely guys and gals please Have Dawsons responded to your complaint yet? And more importantly, any news on the Amp?
15.
.......or the CMD JB Players School combo ?
That seems like a bit of a budget MB amp, using a lesser quality speaker cone and weaker power amp than the Mini CMD's; If I was going down that route I would probably buy a CMD121P as I prefer 12's to 15's
I've only gone up to about 3/4 on the master but that was certainly loud and still clear. Given the way it responds to different basses I own, I get the feeling there might be some mileage in using a clean boost before the input to get maximum volume from passive or lower output basses, but I'm yet to try that out.
Cool Volume doesn't really concern me really, I just want a speaker than sounds as full and rich as possible at low volumes..and one that doesn't fart out should I choose to turn it up
16. Cool bass and tasty looking Ovangkol neck too!
17.
If you caan try to put the Micromark 801 on another cabinet like 2x10 and you will check, naturally this for small gig for home it dounds in perfect way and also to study thanks his aux in. Naturally my topic is because i made it.
Hi Marco, nice to see you on the forum! Are there any plans to upgrade/update the 801 any time soon, as I notice few UK stores stock them?
18.
You can't gig a 1 x 8 45 watt combo. That just won't work. There's a GK 200 watt 112 combo in the Sale section right now which might.
No intention to gig at all. This is purely for home practice, and 'full whack' is for when the neighbours are out
19. The 'full' sound was certainly something I was looking for, and I assume from the cone's 200w handling the sound is still crystal clear at full whack?
20. It was a good amp, but I fancied something different and to be honest I still do
21. As my status update indicates, I am looking for a small practice amp for use at home or relatively quiet jams only. The market seems to be completely inundated with micro combos these days, however the Markbass 801 has caught my eye and Thomann sells for about £350, which seems to be cheaper than anywhere else, It's tiny, but how does it sound? 45w doesn't sound much, but anything that sounds better than running through my Hitachi HiFi will be an improvement! I am also looking at things like the Roland Bass Cube and Ampeg offerings, but they all seem to be trying to be big amps with big sound and falling short, whereas the Markbass seems to be happy being what it is! I find PJB a little too clean (currently selling one of their larger combos) so not really interested in them. Any other suggestions please feel free to help me! Budget is the £300-£400 mark.
22. Lovely again, do they still do AG? Here is my 2010 4003 JG, I love it
