Thanks for the advice, chaps. I'm afraid Warwicks don't do anything for me. Every time I've played one, they left me cold. I know they're popular, well built and have a very vocal following. It's just one of those "Chemistry" things!
What era Warwicks have you tried? Later eighties instrument have a completely different feel and tone to late nineties, which in turn are very different from naughties models, which are different from the current models and popular? Warwicks have been very uncool for years now never rule a manufacturer out!

Have to say, Amplitube is the weakest iOS music app out of the popular ones for bass. Best by far for me is Guitarjack, but Ampkit is cool too. Look in the settings for something relating to running in the background, could well work. But If I were you I would download one of those 2 apps. My Ric through the B15n model on Guitarjack is superb
Why is that when people go on about older guitars sounding better they are only ever talking about Fenders? Back in the 80's you'd get people crowing on about 62 Precision or whatever, and I suppose they were pretty much the only brand that could have much of a vintage being the first production basses. So somehow a 20 year old Fender sounded better than a new one. But now, you can get Warwick's or Status that are 20+ years of, and yet I've never heard anybody making claims for them sounding better. Weird. My first post, and I'm chuffed because I've just bought a 9 year old Warwick. My first bass since stopping playing about 10 years ago.
Interesting that you chose Warwick as an example, as I think there are many people who feel the older ones sound and feel better. I don't know about Status, don't think the way they have been built has changed much at all. I think in general it is not just about sound but about playability, aesthetics and the general vintage vibe, the latter being the only one a brand new 'custom built to your spec's' bass wont have. But, when you consider the costs of a 50's Precision or early 60's Jazz, you are paying an awful lot more than what most luthiers would charge for that vibe. Personally, I wouldn't even consider it. If you fancy a worn looking bass, play a new one for 30 years. If your impatient, get a Roadworn

List of basses (new OR second hand) that are a lot of bass for the money
Kev replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
Although I haven't owned one I amazed how cheaply you can pick up an old status energy.
I think that goes for any wooden necked Status, people overlook them as they are not graphite and they go cheap as a result. Cracking basses -
Waaaw totally gutted I missed the early dolphin5 on the warwick forum last week. I dont often go on it as its impossible to use on an iPhone and rarely browse on anything else. Today i had a look on the laptop. Gah!
It went immediately bud from the looks of it, in fact I think it may have been on the cards before the advert even went up.

Fender Logo JV Squier Precision on ebay
Kev replied to tedmanzie's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
You say they are good prices, but those are three market values of three basses. The Classic 50's probably went a bit cheap, but in the current market that is about what would be expected from a JV and Roadworn I think, they haven't been selling on here for more. -
The concept does need a rethink and it is in the works, can't see any harm in raising suggestions Unfortunately, too many members were using the Wanted section as a way of offering trades, both in the OP and in responses, and avoiding the fees of the classifieds. It was taking a little too much of the mod team's time to delete offending posts so in the end the temporary solution was to effectively lock all threads. The minority ruined it for the majority, as it always seems to be. By the way, you are most welcome to post new threads after a 'reasonable' amount of time as was suggested above, however please make sure you let the forum moderator know first so they can delete your old one

SORTED now, What below £200 bass to buy (prob off here)
Kev replied to Raslee's topic in Bass Guitars
Tried the 'relic' V4 a few weeks ago and was very impressed for the price. I would say it was better than an average Squier Affinity, and on a par with the VM series.
I had one a few years ago, as good as any precision I had played before -
Completely awful, but a good advertisement for the custom shop. They really will do anything...

New photos, showing the patchyness on the bottom, obviously not visible except when you play with your amp upside down (makes for quite home practice I guess!). Easy to repaint if you are OCD Need this gone to fund other things, price drop to just £680 collected from Leamington, localish delivery possible. Trade value stays the same. This is a complete bargain.
Shhh.... Not meant to say that about Rickenbacker on here!
I know, and coming from a moderator as well!
Certainly better than Rickenbacker's customer service in the States! I've never heard of that issue before. If you weren't getting a replacement I'd buy a set of new Schallers and try unscrewing the problematic one with a cloth and pair of pliers/clamps.
Oh I unscrewed it no problem to see how big the screw hole was as I have some spare buttons, but the hole is too large for normal Schaller fittings and I wasn't prepared to go the matchstick/toothpick route I contacted US RIC initially and they just referred me to Rosettti.
