1. I could be interested, but what're the internal dimensions please ? Reason I ask is that I've a case that looks almost identical to this that fits my other basses OK, but it's 1cm or so too short for my Tanglewater J.
2. I'm sure there are better multi-effects units out there, but for what I paid for mine (bought used from here) and what it aims to be, I reckon it's a pretty good bit of kit. (I've the B2 which AFAICS is almost the same as the B1, but in a more sturdy metal box, rather than the plastic B1). The drum machine I find very handy for practicing (for which I use it mainly with headphones) but, as MrTaff says, the volume is WAAAAY louder than everything else, so beware ! The preset patches, I feel, are best thought of as some examples of the various effects available, rather than sounds I'd actually want to use - but they're handy as a starting point from which to tweak. Likewise the amp/cab modeling - I've no idea what an Ampeg SVT through an 810e cab is supposed to sound like when it's going through my Hartke amp into my Ashdown cab...again, try it, and tweak it until you find something you like. I only bought it because I'd never really played with effects on bass before and wanted something to give me, at the flick of a switch, 20-odd seconds of insanity during one particular song in our current set, and it seemed like a cost effective way of trying out lots of different effects. But now I've had it a while, and played around getting familiar with the settings and how the various effects all work together, I use it all the time. I use it as my only stage tuner too.
3. The gig itself went great. As is so often the case with multi-band do's though, the organisers didn't leave enough time for the changeovers - guitarist, in the rush to get offstage and let the next band setup, forgot to zip up has gigbag - throws it over his shoulder, and his pride & joy crashed to the floor and broke the neck He's not too p%^^$£ off though - see's it as an opportunity to buy another one !
Really? the 12AX7 I replaced in my 3500 a few years ago must have been a figment of my imagination then? :-)
Yup - of those 3 mentioned, the HA2500 is the one with the tube emulation (still sounds pretty damned good though, IMO)
5.
Rotosound Roundwounds - at least a year, possibly two. But then, I don`t like new strings.
Same here - the strings currently on my Westone are ~18 months old, and I don't expect to change them any time soon.
6. Another Ashdown driver deal, done from the back of Mudpup's car in a Tesco car park ! Shame it was a grotty wet afternoon and I had a gig to get to, so we couldn't have a proper chinwag. As above - great comms, I'm very pleased with the deal and wouldn't hesitate to deal with him again - even drove part-way to meet me, making my part of the journey a bit easier. Cheers mate -it's given my old MAG400 a new lease of life
7. Also, there can be a huge difference in the outputs from different passive pickups. I've a Tanglewater Classic J, and the output from that is noticeably less than that of my passive Westone Thunder. The Westone always gets plugged in to the active input on my amp, which gives roughly the same output volume as the Tanglewood into the passive input.
8. Dammit...I've just bought one of these ! Great little box - have a bump on me.
9.
Although this has caught my eye: http://www.kennysmus...ck-package.html Wicked price for 300w of Ashdown MAG into a 210 cab.
Note though, that's a 4 Ohm cab, which means you're kinda stuffed if you want to add an additional cab to the setup. Good price though, if it's what you want. As you're only rehearsing/jamming at the mo' though, I think I'd be inclined to carry on with the little 15W Laney, or borrow the 100W one, for now - no harm in keeping the volume down in rehearsals - and keep an eye on the for sale section until something comes up. Good luck ! Edit - just noticed a GK head on here, 135 quid posted - seems a bit of a steal to me...
10. +1 for a single rig. Me - I'd go for a 300-ish watt head (I actually like some of the Ashdown Mag stuff...) and a 2x10 cab. Easier to lug around than a combo, and you can add another cab later if you want/need more volume.
11. If my Tanglewater Classic J is anything to go by, I' d be biting his hand off at that price.
12. Shame we're 150 miles apart - I've a Mag400 combo you could borrow while you consider your options...
13.
Just a little feeler from me (oo-er). I'm looking at getting an Ashdown ABM evo II 300w head. Now, I know very little about ohms and impedance so have no idea whether this cab would be a perfect match or not. (The cab's a little out of my budget but from what I've heard, they're quality cabs so could be worth the extra cash imo.) I could pick up too as I'm only in Brissle.
The ABM head will go down to a 4 Ohm load, so this would be fine (no idea what it'd sound like though...) You won't get the full 300W though (I thought the ABM was 325W or something...?) probably only ~200W unless you add another 8 Ohm cab.
14. +1 to buying 2nd hand - all of my current kit has come from here There's an Ashdown Mag300 head in the for sale section for 100 quid, and there pretty much always seems to be a selection of Ashdown/Hartke/Peavey etc cabs for the same kind of money. Something along those lines would be a far more gigable rig than an EB combo, IMO. For tonights gig - 100-ish people if it's full, rock covers, drums, 2 guitars, 3 vox - I'll be using a 175W/8Ohm Hartke HA2500 into an Ashdown Mag 2x10. If that's not loud enough for your average pub or small club gig, tell the guitar/s to turn down! Lots of pub bands, that I see, play far too loud.
15. Westone Thunder--Carlsbro TC60--Acoustic 404. Always makes me smile
16. If it helps, my Classic J is - from neck to jack socket - volume, blend/pan, tone. If any of them indented at the centre position, That'll be the blend, I'd imagine.
17. I think I may have spoken too soon. I've only had this just over a week, and until last night I'd only really been noodling around at "don't upset the neighbours" kind of volumes. Took it to rehearsal last night, and after some fiddling with EQ at decent at decent volume I don't actually think there's anything much amiss Yes - the J PUP is a bit quieter than the P, but I've now dropped the P PUP a bit and raised the J, and I'm pretty damned happy. I Must say, I'm extremely pleased with this Tanglewater...
18. Bought a Zoom B2 from Ben. No problems - a painless transaction Cheers.
19. I'm also a bit puzzled by this - i think I've the same kind of thing with my (passive) Classic J. With the blend control fully to the P pickup, it's much louder than with the blend control all the way to the J. I appreciate that the neck pickup will probably be louder than the bridge, but I was expecting it to be loudest with the blend control at the center indent - ie both pickups full bore. As it is, I get: Blend control fully to the J = J tone. Blend control centered = P+J, louder than just the J. Blend control filly to the P = P tone, loudest of the lot. Surely this is wrong, or is it my expectations that are awry?
20. But for the logo on the headstock, and the P/J pickups, it looks like a Westone Thunder...
21. I've just got one of these - a CAR Classic J. To say that I'm extremely pleased with it, would be a massive understatement !
22. Just completed a trade with Paul. Goods arrived on time, well packaged, and with great comms throughout. Totally top guy - wouldn't hesitate to deal with Paul again. Cheers matey !
