Send And Return
The Trace Elliot ones were not popular a few years ago, I know that much!
I know a highly qualified and very busy sound engineer who calls them Trasssssssssssssssssssssse Elliot!
2. Turn the bridge pickup off for starters!
3. We played through generators a couple of years ago - they kept tripping out. Eventually we asked a steward to sit with their finger on the 'reset' button. Nobody died.
4. The LA 2 band compressor/gate may be of some use it you're miking up kick and snare drum live. I'd be tempted to make you an offer for it, as I can never have too many compressors, as I prefer to compress through outboard kit when I'm tracking instead of relying on plugins later on. Not sure what it's worth though.
5. I've played pub gigs where the mainstay is 2x45s (minutes, not songs). I've also done more unusual stuff where w played for 90mins non-stop. I don't wear a watch when I play, so some gigs feel like 15 minutes, some feel like a year...
6.
First Ler, now Herb. Primus fan at all? In my Britain it'll be compulsory.
Yes, absolutely. Only now that I'm really starting to analyse my playing style do I realise how much of an influence Les etc... had on me during my formative years. I suppose it's the whole '3 is the magic number' thing, in that everybody has to contribute to the material to maintain the vibe and energy. Primus just do it in spades. I also like Rush and the Police for the same reason - lots of space to fill, so everyone works just that little bit harder.
7. Either Tim "Herb" Alexander or Danny Richmond.
8. Now sorted, cheers BC.
9. Where was this thread last week?, that's what I'd like to know! Don't try a search for 'double-thumbing' on a work terminal. Explaining what I was doing to the head of computer support is not a meeting I'd like to repeat.
10. Have a bump on me. These are seriously great sounding cabs. I'd buy it myself but I already got one.
11. Amateur guitarists with more attitude than gear, and less manners than talent are ten-a-penny. Sack him. Life is too short to waste your time trying to work with time-wasters who simply want to play (unless it's something REALLY special); same thing goes for carrying dead weight in a band. That is all.
12. I've played all of the 'big names' (not just in music shops, but in studios and on gigs) and ended up buying none of them, just didn't have 'my sound'. On the recommendation of a colleague I bought my current bass unseen and loved it. I still do. Every time I pick it up it feels as good as it always has. Just got lucky I guess.
13. Great idea - great tunes too. Thanks for that.
14. If you're new to Jazz then I'd recommend some of Thelonius Monk's blues orientated stuff - Blue Monk, Straight No Chaser etc... as these are changes that you'll be familiar with anyway. Let the brass worry about the chromatic lines and have fun (and build your confidence) in playing over I, IV and V chords. Great tune to listen to too.
15. I'll ask a student of mine - he's had the same set for nearly a year now, and they're still bright as ever - oh, scratch that, they're still bright because he never practices. Waster.
16. Nicely done sir, i absolutely LOVE Monk tunes, so that for me is worth the price of admission. The only critique I have is that the sax (probably alto) on 'straight, no chaser' has a bit to much vibrato at the end of the phrase. Other than that it's the best thing I've heard all day ( and I've been listening all day). You guys put real energy into your performance. I really hope that the sax comment doesn't make me come across as a bit of a buzzkill, because I'd rather encourage people than bring them down, and i genuinely did like what I heard, it's just that one single thing that took some of the icing off your cake for me. Great sounding (and above all, authentic) recording. I'd much rather hear a good recording of a live performance than a perfectly polished 'hatchet job'. Brownie points all round.
17. Apparently I've just won the Nigerian lottery (good thing I checked my 'junk mail' folder eh?), so as soon as I find the ticket that I haven't bought and the funds clear then I'll be in a position to make you an offer. Shouldn't take too long as I've just emailed them my bank details as requested. Hooray. I can't help thinking that people aren't taking this post seriously. Good luck with the sale though Sliddx.

Send And Return

As I understand it guitar and bass pedals are designed to run with the tiny amount of voltage that comes out of a bass. FX loops can deliver a higher output which may be too much for some pedals. Send/return loops are really there for rack mount kit (compressors, reverb units etc...) that can deal with the 'hot' signal from the loop. Depends on the spec of your amp for the leads question. A good amp will have balanced (TRS) sockets, and you should use balanced connectors.
19.
Genius!! Possibly the most under-rated guitarist ever.
Effing right, I find myself focussing on his playing over Les' bass assault - that's no small compliment.
20. I started double-thumbing last night, so far so slow...
21. Larry 'Ler' Lalonde from Primus, or Zappa.
22.
I make my own with speakons and the really thick Hi-fi speaker cable from maplin
I did the same with some lovely VanDamme cable that I just happened to have knocking around...
23. LH1000 and dBx 1066 compressor. Occasionally an MXR 124 graphic EQ, but i've been on a gear diet lately due to a touch of sciatica.
24. Sorry to be a pedant, but "what is understood doesn't need to be discussed". That sir, is a superb rack. End of. (/misogyny)
25. Daft hat - Christmas whisky... Sorry.
