1. Great idea - great tunes too. Thanks for that.
2. If you're new to Jazz then I'd recommend some of Thelonius Monk's blues orientated stuff - Blue Monk, Straight No Chaser etc... as these are changes that you'll be familiar with anyway. Let the brass worry about the chromatic lines and have fun (and build your confidence) in playing over I, IV and V chords. Great tune to listen to too.
3. I'll ask a student of mine - he's had the same set for nearly a year now, and they're still bright as ever - oh, scratch that, they're still bright because he never practices. Waster.
4. Nicely done sir, i absolutely LOVE Monk tunes, so that for me is worth the price of admission. The only critique I have is that the sax (probably alto) on 'straight, no chaser' has a bit to much vibrato at the end of the phrase. Other than that it's the best thing I've heard all day ( and I've been listening all day). You guys put real energy into your performance. I really hope that the sax comment doesn't make me come across as a bit of a buzzkill, because I'd rather encourage people than bring them down, and i genuinely did like what I heard, it's just that one single thing that took some of the icing off your cake for me. Great sounding (and above all, authentic) recording. I'd much rather hear a good recording of a live performance than a perfectly polished 'hatchet job'. Brownie points all round.
5. Apparently I've just won the Nigerian lottery (good thing I checked my 'junk mail' folder eh?), so as soon as I find the ticket that I haven't bought and the funds clear then I'll be in a position to make you an offer. Shouldn't take too long as I've just emailed them my bank details as requested. Hooray. I can't help thinking that people aren't taking this post seriously. Good luck with the sale though Sliddx.

Send And Return

As I understand it guitar and bass pedals are designed to run with the tiny amount of voltage that comes out of a bass. FX loops can deliver a higher output which may be too much for some pedals. Send/return loops are really there for rack mount kit (compressors, reverb units etc...) that can deal with the 'hot' signal from the loop. Depends on the spec of your amp for the leads question. A good amp will have balanced (TRS) sockets, and you should use balanced connectors.
7.
Genius!! Possibly the most under-rated guitarist ever.
Effing right, I find myself focussing on his playing over Les' bass assault - that's no small compliment.
8. I started double-thumbing last night, so far so slow...
9. Larry 'Ler' Lalonde from Primus, or Zappa.
10.
I make my own with speakons and the really thick Hi-fi speaker cable from maplin
I did the same with some lovely VanDamme cable that I just happened to have knocking around...
11. LH1000 and dBx 1066 compressor. Occasionally an MXR 124 graphic EQ, but i've been on a gear diet lately due to a touch of sciatica.
12. Sorry to be a pedant, but "what is understood doesn't need to be discussed". That sir, is a superb rack. End of. (/misogyny)
13. Daft hat - Christmas whisky... Sorry.
14. I tend to favour finger playing as I prefer the sound, but I will occasionally pull out my pick ( I only own!) if things go a bit 'punk'. I don't necessarily think that fingers are better than picks, it's just that I'm much faster and more accurate with all of my piggies wriggling. This is probably down to the fact that I never practice with a pick though, and isn't a 'finger are better' jibe.
15. Don't know what kind of 'nome you've got, but mine automatically makes beat one louder, no matter what time signature you're playing. to really nail 4/4 I've set the time to 2/4, so every other beat is 'strong' and then used these louder clicks as the 2 and 4. Helped me immensely.
16. Probably the creamy Billy Sheehan sound. Hmm, valvey Ampeg goodness.

Boss Ce2

My CE2B was (i think) £70 - very good condition in original box. Lovely. 19.
OC2 gets a lot of love
... because it's THE BALLS!
20. +1 on the octave front. They're brilliant at filling out basslines. Also - just one distortion pedal? you need to address that!
21. +1 for the stamina - also the cleanliness that he gets when romping through lines like 'Hysteria' etc... demonstrate just how good his technique (and to some extent their engineer) is.
22. Cheers bloods, I'll let him know. Peace out.
23. Sounds like someone just found their "mojo". Welcome to the tube world, I think you're going to like it here.
24. Welcome Will. You'll never leave...
25. Hi All, a friend of mine is looking buy his first 'proper' bass amp - he's currently got an Ashdown after 8, but is now playing in a band with a proper drummer and everything, and needs something a whole lot louder. He's probably going to go for a 2nd hand HA3500 and is looking at a couple. One has 'Transient Attack' on the front plate, and the other doesn't. Anyone know the difference between these two? I'll try to post pics later on. Cheers guys 'n' gals.
