1. Cheers for the response Dood. I retubed last year with Harmas from Watford Valves. They've not seen an awful lot of use (just home recording), so shouldn't be that noisy. I also found that the 'balanced' DI out is quite noisy until I switch it to 'post EQ', then the noise (through the XLR output) disappears. Could be a transformer problem? I hope not, as that was also replaced last year with a spare from Panic Music. Hmm.
2. I've just taken delivery of an Ampeg SVP1500 power amp, which is the perfect amp to compliment my SVP PRO pre. I've noticed that the power amp is picking up the tiny amount of valve noise coming out of the pre. Currently I'm using 4x 12AX7s and a 12AU7 (in V4). Is there any benefit to attenuating the outut ofthe amp by using say, a 5751 tube at V5 (main output) to reduce the (incredible) amount of gain provided by this pre? I've tried a 12AU7 in this position, but the output was reduced by too much altogether. Any thoughts / advice / concubines appreciated. Cheers, Paul
3.
What about some manring? No, that's not an offer.
pretty much anything with james jamerson on bass should fit the bill.
4. This took some doing at our gaff... Great line to play.

6.
The tone on this into is what first turned me on to double bass:
That's WAY too slow, check out the speed that Mingus et al play it, awesome. Also, as a result of this thread I've bought my first Tool album today, love it! Cheers BC!
7. Hmm, that's not really for me. THIS on the other hand is a thing of beauty.
8. mine was a hohner short scale thing. It had a split p pickup and played really well. It cost me £70 from a local music shop. The decline started when i decided to sand it back to a natural wood finish. Alas, 'twas chipboard.
9. Filth. I simply won't gig without it (even at church).
10. bump for an awesome piece of kit. I love mine, are you absolutely certain yot want to part with it? I'd never sell mine.
11.

YOWSER! That's special, I'll have to delve a bit deeper into these guys.
12. 2Rep came over to buy my Ampeg head. Met him in person and did the deal, he's a lovely bloke who has a wealth of gigging stories to share over a pint (which we also did). A newcomer to our little community and a very welcome one too. I have no qualms about recommending dealing with Tim, he's a really genuine fella.
13. Free bump from another Hydrive user. I run my Ampegs through this and it always delivers a great sound, FAR lighter than other 4x10s too.
14. Or maybe this from Charles Mingus - lovely playing: I'd also nominate "Turn the page" by Rush and "Stone Dead Forever" by the 'head. Also "Fish On" by Primus, kinda goes out of tune in places, but still a lovely line.
15. i've had a few daw's over the years. I love protools now, but my best recent find is ezdrummer. I use for everything. Edit Also loving Sibelius. Got version 4 and love it, use it more than a DAW to be honest.
16. i use the graphic on my preamp via a footswitch for slapping. Keeping fairly hefty strings (.45s) helps too.
17. i'm a christian and i used to play very regularly until the arrival of our second son 8 months ago. I leave my rig down there wor other players to use. That also tops out at 1000watts (or thereabouts). Not a problem at ramsbottom pentecostal church though; the pastor is an ex-punk and likes it loud. We do hillsong, audacious etc... stuff. Pretty good stuff, could do with some 7/4 though.
18. I've been taking advantage of the 'buyer's market' and upgrading kit. Of course, Mrs_5 is happy that I have less spare stuff kicking around the house...
19. Likewise, I'll be at Manchester with my doppleganger.
20. I'd swing the other way on this TNIT, i've never played a warwick that I 'clicked' with. Jazz basses on the other hand just work for me. Ultimately it boils down to that, play as many as you can and let your hands tell you which one is for you [/subjective hippy crap]
21. Cheers for that. Just put a couple of feelers out over there.
22. bought this body andneck for a tenner the other day. It's had a really amateur defret but plays well enough. Needs new electronics and machine heads too. Anyone have any clue where i might find replacements?
23.
PM'd.
Replied also.
