1. Hi All, my brother in law is looking to buy his first bass guitar. He's got his eye on a Wesley Jazz bass - anyone heard of them or had any experience of them? Cheers, Paul
2. The obvious place to start would be the battery. Then start with the switch and work backwards form there, hopefully it's one of those two (really easy fixes). Good luck.
3. well done sir. They're really good cabs too, enjoy.
4. I've had a couple of Boss chorus pedals (CE2B and CE3B) and they were OK. Since getting an EBS I'm using it a whole lot more. Just seems to have a more 'open' top end (if that makes any sense) and are way more versatile. I'd go for the EBS.
5. If it's an hour a night then why not work out a rota something like: Monday - scales / modes / theory Tuesday - Technique (slap etc...) or transcription Wednesday - Reading Thursday - Torchwood Friday - Solo piece (there's loads of these kicking around, try the 'technique section') Also don't feel obliged to do the full hour. You're better doing a quality 30 minutes than forcing yourself to do an hour with sloppy technique / timekeeping. Ideally there should be a metronome at most of these sessions (apart from maybe Torchwood - that constant clicking can be a bit off-putting)
6. Cool, we've got a gig in the Cantina at Mos Eisley next weekend (dead easy - just the one song). Where can I get one?
7.
[s]fretless bass[/s] Jeff Berlin's moustache is a cliche [s]instrument[/s] and it should be outlawed
Fixed You're welcome. Also, Les Claypool's fretless playing sounds absolutely nothing like Jaco.
8. Welcome on board skipper.
9. I've been looking at Genz stuff lately. The manual that I read online states that they can be run as a standalone DI, as the power stage is solid state. Hope this helps.
10. whereabouts on the neck is the deadspot? This is a common problem with fender jazz basses (amongst others) and can be fixed by using a small piece of wood and a clamp. It's caused by the mass of the headstock, turns out it vibrates at the wrong frequency and cancels out key frequencies. Increase the headstock mass by clamping said piece of wood to the headstock and that should sort it. It's not pretty but works for studio stuff and playing at home. Hope this helps mate. Cheers, paul.
11.
i hope that is not the bass line from the master tape or i'll be round and give him a few lessons in how to use a metronome!
He's got one - works it with his feet.
12. That's not good is it?
13.
I'd expect the guitarist to make it to the end of the song with a missing string and then change strings in about one minute between songs.
+1. tenths on the bass are surprisingly good at 'filling out' when a guitarist has a "skinny 'un" go down on him. Or if it's a 'riff based' piece then an octave pedal is your best friend.
14. bah! Pesky basschat. Looks like i'm going shopping again.
15. all of the above suggestions would work, or yot could retube with 12AU7 or 5751 tubes, that way yot could still drive then a bit, but have a reduced output. As an aside how do these amps sound? I've currently got an svp pre into an svp power amp and an looking to keep that kind of slightly wooly tone but with some mid definition. My back's starting to feel the strain these days...
16. PRIMUS TICKET back up for sale. Pm's, bad jokes and cake to the usual address.
17. lovely piece of wood that, good luck with the sale.
18. Yup, single FX are the way forwards (and oddly, backwards too).
19. Sold Mart my redundant OC2, really smooth transaction, rapid payment and great comms. Deal with confidence. Paul.
20. Speaking of modding knobs, has anyone used one of THESE before? it's called Kickdisk and is supposed to make adjusting parameters on an FX pedal a breeze without bending down mid song / set to fiddle with stuff.
21.
Here's a question: If you're got your foot on the pedal, holding a note, can you play over the top of it?
Yeah baby! works like the Boss SYB 5 - trigger a drone, hold the pedal down and play over the top. This has a latch mode as well so that once the drone has been triggered your foot can come off it to do something more useful (wah pedal, up on a wedge etc...). Which is nice.
22.
I really want one of those Freeze pedals!
Just arrived today from a BC'er. Awesomeness in a nano-sized box. I'm about to fire the keyboard player .

Quick question

I love EZ drummer. not cheap, but some great results and loads of MIDI loops included with the kit packages. Choice of microphone balance / room mics etc... Wouldn't be without it.
