1. I remember when this were all fields... That's actually a damned lie. Things do seem a little quiet of late though. Maybe I'll post some 'drummer at the wrong gig' threads to get things going.
2. Might need to move the pups though, that's one DEEP / MID sounding bass there. Probably best not played through an Ampeg, unless you want the world to implode.
3. Just stumbled across this. Seems a bit pricey... http://www.ebay.co.u...5#ht_1055wt_817 or am I just being cheap?
4. HiFi buffs I know swear by Grado GR60s (if memory serves), but I've got a pair of fairly cheap sennheisers that do me. It's only for practicing, not monitoring/mixing.
5. currently about 12. 12 of anything isn't very much. Now I'm sad.
6. Avoid consecutive 5ths! Samuel Adler and Rimsky Korsakov both published really useful books on Orchestral arranging. They're both from a classical perspective, but give a thorough exploration of what each instrument and section is good at, and not good at. also they are great references for which clef etc... to use when scoring parts. Hope this is of some use.
7.
Surely someone fancies an early Xmas present ?
Yeah, certainly if you're giving it away! Seriously nice basses there, good luck with the sale and the arthritis.
8. Missed the post on this Derren, not far from me either. MUST check Basschat more regularly.
9. Have you tried turning the DB through 90 degrees, slimming down the body, shortening the neck and fitting a pickup between the bridge and the neck joint? Works every time for me.
10. You could do a whole lot worse than a Dave Hall DI/EQ. They can be phantom powered from the desk and will allow you to EQ the DI out and the feed to your amp independently. I love mine. It's always with me on any gig just in case. http://www.davehallamps.co.uk/page42.html
11.
Actually it was 'I bet this turns up on Basschat'
I reckon it was more like "great, now I have to pack up his gear as well as the PA."

15. That's badness. Just badness. [sharedmedia=core:attachments:92044]
16.
i think hi ho silver lining should be a lawful excuse for GBH
True dat. Whenever I dep for bands I'll always ask for a setlist in advance. Usually I'll make an excuse about "Oh, Hi Ho Silver lining is offensive to short people, goldsmiths and tailors - so on those grounds I respectfully request its withdrawal" or similar to try to avoid playing it.
17. All the best with your new gaff, Ian. hope you and yours get settled quick-pronto.
18. I've been in the reverse situation. I'm wholeheartedly a finger player, though I was once doing a studio job and I suggested that I use a pick for one particular track, which was very much frowned upon. I won in the end, and everyone agreed that it DID sound better within the context of the track. Bit of a moral victory, as I had cramps in my thumb for hours afterwards. Hey Ho. As bassists we're there to serve the track. That's it.

20. I'm an artist. I've been to college and everything. Seriously though, I tend to write all the stuff too, so I've got a foot in both camps.
21.
Got hard disks full of those
Ooooh, a boxset.

23. I tend to write in Sibelius, then bounce the MIDI file into protools. From then on I'll just replace each part as and when the opportunity arises. Most of my drum tracks come from easy drummer, whether it's importing loops or a MIDI drum kit (I know, it's cheating, but in my defence, how many drummers do you know who are happy to switch between irregular meters all day?). The guitars are generally done by my brother in his lounge (nice, big room) using Mid/Side mic'ing (generally), then the keys, bass and vocals are done back at mine - usually at my kitchen table - from then on I leave them for a couple of weeks. When I go back to them if I still like the track/arrangement then I'll push it forwards, if not, then it's one for the "we thought this was all sh*te when he was alive, but now he's dead and we still need to recoup" album that'll be released 'post mortem'. What a happy thought.
