1. Jazz bass (or similar) through Sansamp BDDI (slightly off topic, but there we are).
2. Revolution Number 9. Seriously though, Helter Skelter, Tomorrow Never Knows (EHX freeze pedals at the ready), Day tripper ( as long as you substitute the lyrics for 'gay stripper' or similar), Get Back - anything with a bit of a drive to it really.
3. You can pick up a used MBox pretty cheap on eBay, I really like the sound of mine. If you're considering one of these then make sure it's MBox version 2 and up (blue face), as the original MBox (with Focusrite pre's) aren't compatible with OSX Lion. OR for just under your budget these are superb - the AD conversion is stunning. 4. Up for sale is my Tech 21 XXL Bass edition. No box or paperwork and velcro on the bottom. Bought it a while ago but it's not seeing much use and I need to clear some space on my board for a filter coffee machine or similar... In really good nick (no dings, chipped paint or crackly pots). Looking for £40 posted.
5.
Ours was pretty good, people were up and dancing, one of the most receptive crowds we've ever had. Some that had seen us a few times before were joining in with the chorus to one of the songs - first time I've heard a bunch of people singing something I'd written, made my night .
It's really flattering when they do that innit? Of course some people say I deliberatly court that sort of response by writing hooky choruses that go 'Oooooo Oooooo'...
6.
Not many people qualified to sing that, but if you are - who's to complain ??
Daily Mail readers - especially if you're of Eastern European stock as well.
7. erm, moondance?
8.
Hi Paul, Not sure if you're aware of this?: http://scottsbassles...sods/the-gloves
No, wasn't aware of this. Having read the page I have even more respect for Scott and the good work he does. Kudos to you Mr Devine.
9. OK, enough small talk, where are the pictures?
10. Those are brilliant tutorials, Scott - loving the approach and the pace that you've got. Have you considered taking the glove off to make it easier for stoodents to see your fingers in a bit more detail though? Just a thought.
11. I had the 'B Bass V' five string headed and a 5 string headless back in the day - they were lovely to play and sounded great too. Well worth a punt, certainly if it goes for less than £200.
12. 51m0n posted this link a while ago - http://www.cambridge-mt.com/ms-mtk.htm - loads of stuff to tinker with.
13. Internet tabs? I'd sooner play the numbers on a bingo card - they're probably more accurate.
14.
...just spunking money for the sake of it...
That's half the fun. Pedal-scrooge!

Erm, yes. it does it really well actually.
17.
(I ended up with an EHX Qtron, the big one - £50 off ebay).
Score!
18. I've never deliberately polished any of my basses - I just rub some funk on it!
19. This http://basschat.co.uk/topic/170617-3-leaf-groove-regulator-mk1-further-price-drop-l85-posted/ . The GR is an awesome envelope filter. IME it's one of the things that digital units aren't too good at. Distortion/overdrive always sounds better when coming from a dedicated outboard pedal too.
20. sounds simple, but have you tried a different lead? there may be a short inside that. Failing that, sometimes phantom power can play merry hell with some bits of kit (shouldn't really, but on some lower end mixers I've experienced this).

Sorry for the delay, the kids are feeling a bit poorly this week. I'm sorry to report that using the score function in PT 10 is just as clunky as the MIDI tracks in the arrange window. Not a fan. I suppose I'm just used to Sibelius, and I can see that it could be useful, but you've really got to keep altering the snap value to input notes of differing lengths - keyboard shortcuts could help, but I'm still not convinced. For everything else it's the balls.
22. It'd probably end up like Trigger's broom though...

If you just want a cheap version of Sibelius (which, to be honest, I find myself using more than Pro Tools) then the 'Sibelius First' is available to download for £80. Doesn't do everything that Full versions of Sibelius do (no ossias for example) but really good 'conventional' scores. I miss some of teh more advanced quirkier scoring options, but I couldn't justify the expense.

iit's ok if you want to look at MIDI files as a score instead of coloured blobs. Not tried writing in the sibelius mode though, for that sort of thing I use erm, sibelius. It might be better than I think - I'll have a proper look at it tonight and get back to you.

I've just had to upgrade to PT10, and I'm absolutely loving it. The bonus with PT is that you can now use any interface (I think up to version 8 you had to use the Digidesign thingy, which limited you to 2 tracks - unless you wanted to spend 4 figures). The audio engine is brilliant quality, and that was the deciding factor in convincing me to move from Cubase (which I had been using for 20 years I might add). The workflow is really quick too, it's not really a DAW that gives you too many options to be distracted with (unless that's what you want). One word of caution though, if you're doing predominantly MIDI based stuff then PT ain't the best for this. It'll do everything, but the GUI when sequencing with MIDI is a bit of a pain in the arse.
