1. http://m.youtube.com/results?q=how%20to%20drive%20a%20double%20bass Try the above - its geared towards classical styles but gives good tips on holding the bass and posture, etc. it's also very engaging and nice to see a presenter who doesn't take himself too seriously! Enjoy.
2.
Thanks for the advice guys, I picked up the bass Russ was selling today and had a dabble for a couple of hours before having to go to work, I am absolutely hooked now! Any body got any links to must read books and lessons on youtube etc etc?
Glad you got Russ' bass it used to be mine! It's got a lot of history and was a regular on the scene here in Lancaster, good luck with it but be warned you will get hooked!
3. I'd be interested in this but would need it to be courier'd
4. Any pics? Still for sale?
5.
Good grief, wouldnt touch it with someone elses bargepole.
Wouldn't touch it with itself!
6. Check out this 'bargain'! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/60s-FRAMUS-TRIUMPH-UPRIGHT-BASS-/170901897593?pt=Guitar&hash=item27ca8c0179#ht_3822wt_922

9. I asked him to post pics of the nut and patch which he has done, the nut looks right to me but has obviously been cut left handed at some stage. I asked about the tuners and he said they were on when he got it and he was going to replace but never got round to doing so. Still not 100% on this but he was quick to answer my questions.
10. With an obvious decal - looks like an Encore or Hohner body, I like the way the listing skirts around the truth without being blatantly dishonest. 28 bidders? One disappointed winner.
11. What is the scale length on these please?

14. If they'd suit a 1/2 size bass I'd take them off your hands!
15. Yes a lack of serial number doesn't mean anything for a Hofner but there's something about the headstock that doesn't seem quite right, pity there's no picture of the nut. As you say most of it looks OK, good price too.

18. Could you pm me his details too please?
19. I've been looking at reviews and I think they are not quite what I'm really after. I like the strings on my Selmer but don't know what they are.
20. No I had a maximum price that I put on it, I think it would have needed a lot of work and these come up fairly frequently at a reasonable price in better condition.
21. It's a Watkins or Wilson Sapphire. I'm going to have a bid as I did own one years ago and it had a nice neck. These were well made instruments but the pickups were comparatively weak compared to US basses. A shortcoming common to several UK guitar manufacturers in the 60s and 70s.
22. OK thanks, what's the actual texture of the string like? You see on my bass there are E&A string with a steel coating like flat wound bass guitar strings and the D&G have a light gold/copper plasticky coating to them. I have some weedwackers but I don't want to put them on the 1/2 size as I fear they will be too low tension - I'm not too keen on their tonal qualities either! I'm not sure about the various DB bass strings but the Honey's do have good reviews. I'm looking for a string I can play rock'n'roll with occasional slap and bluegrass on.
23.
Ahh cool, Promenade is my local too, so let me know when it comes in...unless you buy it, of course! The sunburst one looks great.
Will do - I think it's the sunburst on order, if there are any QC problems Gary will sort it out with Gibson before its put on display.
24. Fascinating, thanks for posting this!
