1. It's a Gibson SB400 see the link - they are actually quite nice basses if you can get a good example. There was an SB300 too, scale length may be the difference. Both lacked the thump of the EB series. I've also seen similar models by Hoyer and Guild. http://www.flyguitars.com/gibson/bass/1971gibsonSB400.php
2.
Sorry to resurrect an old thread gentlemen, but we (Manchester Bass Lounge) are now working in collaboration with Gordon Smith on the design of a new bass guitar! We will market and sell the new model when it comes out later this year. Not giving too much away, but suffice to say it will be light and in-line with Gordon Smith's reputation for making high quality and very playable instruments. By all means, please contact MBL or Gordon Smith to find out more
Now that sounds interesting! I've owned three Gordon Smith basses, a semi, a GS and one off Rickenfaker, all very well made and great playing basses.
3. I love mine and wouldn't part with it have a bump on me
4. Yes they go for stupid prices, I've got a copy no idea it was so sought after until I looked them up on Amazon
5. No the Fender logo was smaller and the words Precision Bass in a different font when the serial number migrated to the headstock. I have owned two Precisions from this mid 70s era both had similar lettering to the picture above and serial numbers on the neck plate.
6. What's the weight? Maple or rosewood board? Any trade options....your pic isn't showing I'm afraid:(
7. Nice little amps these, if you'd consider posting/courier pm me as I live the other end of the country so too far to travel.
8. Good call, was seriously tempted but the weight was too much for my old back!
9. I meant TRADES! Darn predictive text
10. Lovely what's the weight and any trains.
11. It's easy just edit your original post and then add the pics via attachment. Alternatively pm me your email and Ill send mine on to you so you can send them direct.
12. Pics would be good and where are you based?
13. Perhaps it's because it's been moved on a couple of times fairly quickly? It looks fantastic and is an excellent price, I was tempted when I saw it before....had it been a Precision! The market is odd at the moment as Rick's Fine has rightly pointed out and there are a lot of instruments at stupidly low prices going nowhere at the moment. I'm sure you'll get a sale soon as this series is so limited. Have a bump on me
14. Open to offers?
15. I'd be interested in the cab
16. Are these still available?
17.
The intonation adjustment screw for the E saddle looks to be pointing off to the side whereas the A string screw seems to run parallel to the string, so it could just be that the saddles need a bit of shifting around. Is that the right bridge for a Marathon? My old Hayman 40/40 had a rather different design, not a BBOT clone.
Yes it's the correct bridge. These are good basses and often just need a little TLC as they tend to get overlooked by non-Shergold fans and sadly neglected. Super slim necks, very stable and a bit Wal-like shape wise. The 6string basses go for stupid prices because of the Hooky connection. John Wetton of King Crimson used a fretless version similar to this one. I would have gone for this but the seller wouldn't post it.
18. Excellent, the joodee interested me but he didn't reply when I messages. I may take it off your hands if its not mega dear and you get fed up of it
19. Would you courier them? Just a thought.
20. Hi Nick I'm interested in the LA combo, would it work for double bass?
21. Hi they are 158cms in length 14.5cms bottom winding 37cms top. Cheers
22. Dropping the price as they are sitting looking at me unappreciated in their pristine box. £30 posted please buy them before I use them for a washing line.
23.
Was talking to the owner of my local shop today and someone apparently tried to return a bass a few weekaghast. The reason for returning it was because he thought it was just a guitar for beginners.......
That reminds me of Rick Wakeman's story about buying his first Minimoog. He got it secondhand and cheap off Jack Wild (the actor and original Artful Dodger) who sold it as not working. Apparently when Wakeman unpacked it and plugged it in it worked perfectly. Being an honest chap he rang Wild and told him that the synth was fine Wild replied 'well its no use to me it can only play one note at a time'.
24. A recent brush with eBay detailed elsewhere made me extremely cautious as a buyer. I got ripped off by a seller who I later found was one of eBay's 'top reviewers' and had previous 'bad form' yet was functioning with 100% positive feedback. eBay has never cared as long as the money keeps rolling in, they only listen to those who threaten them with legal prosecution. I hope the person who got this counterfeit is from this site and gets the last laugh.
25. Bought a nice Musicman Stingray off Mark, great guy to deal with. Many thanks! Ash
