1. You wait ages for a Mouradian to come along and then two come at once!
2.
huh? the website says they've been there since 2004 ??
That's their shop in Frome IIRC.
3.
...and it's on Quiet Street....
4. Yep, went in on Monday and spent money. Nice chaps, dangerous having that so close to the office!!
5. Well done chaps, looks fantastic. Er... Now what are we supposed to do? Can you make another please?
6. Not quite the same thing, but I'm sure I've seen a fretless with a single fret right up at the dusty end to give that 'clank' when slapping.
7. Those pups are notoriously low output, so those figures might be right.
8.
NYE 2013, doing a party on a Thames cruise boat. Our guitarists Marshall started smoking, then came the flames and then a big pop and it was dead. Fun times.
Isn't that what you call a blessing in disguise?
9. Did a gig on drums in Italy many years ago on an outdoor stage. The performance area was covered but open at the back. There was a deluge as we were playing, and I look over to see water pouring in huge sheets off the back of the roof, directly into one of the stage boxes into which all the amps and equipment were plugged, and all across the floor of the stage while we're all playing away. Cue panic from me mid song, trying to attract the sound guy's attention and that of the rest of the band, which was quickly focussed when one of the amps went 'bang', leading to a very rapid stage abandonment!
10. Interesting - his website suggests the Bristol gig is the Thekla, but that link says the Fleece. Any idea on his band line up?
11.
I'll see how it goes, but I might be able to start fretting very soon
You mean you're only going to start worrying about it now?
12.
I'm BACK Progress should continue tomorrow onwards
Tease!
13.
St James wine vaults, 10 St James's Street, BA1 2TW Bath. It's this coming Sunday, starts at 6pm, and free entry. I'm in Bristol on the Saturday evening at an event too.
Ah, I may try and come down then. Incidentally, looking st that lineup I think we may have met back in Brum a couple of times when auditioning for different projects!
14.
I do lots of solo gigs. So far this year I've done ten, including a couple in Paris and one with Steve Lawson. I've got two more later this month, one in Bath and one in Bristol. I much prefer them to normal band gigs, much more satisfying.
Where are you playing in Bath?
15. Blast! I got all excited thinking there was an update!
16. My cat used to climb inside the bass drum of my drum kit to lie on the pillow in there. She got the shock of her life when I hadn't noticed and started playing!
17. I have a G&L bag that came with a bass. It's fantastic, well padded and has a large pocket which should fit a head in. Worth a look if you can find one.
18. And (as a currently practicing solicitor) the analogy drawn with cars is erroneous, as there is specific legislation which deals with vehicles sold without notice of a finance agreement. The legal principle is 'nemo date non quod habet' which means that a vendor cannot sell what he does not have good title to. There are various statutory and case law provisions relating to this but in general the innocent buyer cannot acquire good title in stolen goods.
19. Thanks Foxy, but we've *just* (as in the last week or so) found someone who seems to be the business.
20. I should just clarify when I said preamp I meant an onboard one to turn the bass active. In my case I fitted a Glockenklang which was ideal as it mirrored the functions of an active Streamer, but (provided you can get it to fit) any onboard pre would do.
21. I think the "default" for use with humbuckers is 500k, but I can't remember what I put in mine. I think you'll struggle to find a replacement pickup - I couldn't find one that would drop straight in. I found suggestions online that Bartolini did one but I couldn't find it. You could get a custom pup made but that's ££. The standard pup sounds good IMO, just needs setting free!
22. Indeed - and so the suggestion is that Warwick forgot to spec the correct pots when the STD was made passive, hence the 25k pots being in there. Edit: your guitar guy should be able to get you some as they're a standard part. They made a noticeable difference, though it was still a lowish output.
23. NT= Neck through. Standard versions were made in Germany but were the precursor to the Rockbass editions (at least for the Streamer STD). The body was made from what Warwick called 'Carolena' but everyone else calls pine. Standards were bolt on necks. Underrated for what they were but IME need a few modifications to get the best outof them as the ship with 25k pots which strangles the sound. Fitting 250k/500k pots is an easy way to open them up, but a decent preamp makes a big difference.
24. If you paid for additional insurance, then threaten a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service, which is the body that deals with insurance complaints. Demand a copy of the policy wording and ask for a full explanation as to why it was declined. Similarly, if you intend to pursue in the small claims court you need to be alleging either that you were missold the insurance and/or that the terms of the courier contract were unfair, as you paid for something which could not possibly have paid out in the event of damage. TBH through up enough crap and some of it will stick. PM me if you need more info as IAAL.
25. I'm primarily a drummer and a bassist second. I did a gig recently where I offered to bring my kit but I was told someone else preferred to do it, which was fine. Or so i thought. When I got there it was a guy who'd been playing the same kit he learnt on in in the 70's - no problem, you'd have thought, except it didn't appear to have been maintained in all that time. Knackered heads, all of the screws/nuts rusted and seized. I tried to adjust the floor tom so I could actually hit it and the wing nut snapped in my hand (looked like metal fatigue- I'm not that strong!) but luckily I'd got a hose clamp in my stick bag (legacy of another bad kit share) so was able to bodge it. I couldn't believe that the guy gigged his kit but that state, so although we'd all agreed beforehand what was happening, I still ended up with a duff kit! Unfortunately it seems an unavoidable part of playing drums...
