Bought a Spector 5 off Brendon - great nick, lovely chap and chucked in a case too. Thanks for a great purchase!

By no means an expert, but it could be the stereo tips on the jacks causing problems. Have you tried mono ones?

My dad and my uncle were both drummers, and from the 40's/50's (uncle) and 60's (dad) onwards both played in loads of different groups. (They're both still around, BTW, lest anyone think this is a sad/emotional tale!) My uncle in particular had his own band which, until about 15 years ago, was still gigging. I think it was a 'dance band' i.e. they did stuff for ballroom dancing, RAF gigs, that sort of thing, but I'm not 100% on that. Anyway, back then he gave me three or four boxes of his band arrangements. They're all hand-written charts but good quality paper, not just printer paper or whatever. The tunes are sort of sub-big-band type stuff I think, These boxes have been following me round for many years and to be honest I've barely ever looked into them. The boxes themselves are now falling apart, and I don't really have the inclination to rebox it all up and keep it, but on the other hand there's probably some decent charts and there's a bit of post-war history in them. Before I chuck them out, does anyone know of any groups or organisations which might be able to use them or want them? Edit: oh, and my uncle won't want it back, he gave it all to me as he was giving up playing in bands due to his age.

Can anyone near Swindon help a soul band out?

Would love to but I think I’d need a bit more time, practice and ability! Good luck with it! -
I thought they’d split after their last round of gigs, but happy to be proven wrong!

Really good film, and the live stuff is great. Such a shame they that after all that they couldn’t get on...

I have wrist/arm problems of this nature too. At my desk, I moved from a mouse to a trackpad (like a large laptop pad) and that means you’re generally moving your arm rather than your wrist with a mouse. Playing wise, I found a tennis elbow support helped when it was really bad - it sits up by your elbow and somehow the compression releases pressure on the tendons. I wouldn’t use something than compresses the forearm as it could add to the pressure on the tendons.

This is mine, just recently put together, so sorry about wobbly pedal and dodgy patches!

My better half’s criticism mainly stems from there being “no words” to sing along to... We we could have done L42 or Incognito and that’d probably have been fine, but I just fancied some “proper” jazz! Next year I’ll suggest she and the boy go shopping in the more “jazz” end of the spectrum and I’ll go as Billy no mates!

I picked one up to use in addition to the Soul Food, and its exactly as you describe on the lower settings. I’ve not noticed any tone suck - it does have two different voicings for guit and bass too.

Yep, I saw TBP too. Really enjoyed it - quite challenging at times, and my wife said it “felt like being physically assaulted” and made her really angry too. She’s not a musician, BTW 😉 We saw Kizzy Crawford and Yola too - both “not jazz” but very enjoyable nonetheless. I was was a bit disappointed at the line up this year, but I suppose they have to balance pleasing the hardcore with actually selling tickets and accessibility. My highlight was Billy Cobham a few years ago.

Yes please! Let me know how much etc and I'll ping you moneys!

I'm turning into an insomniac after band rehearsals!!
Jakester replied to lou24d53's topic in General Discussion
I struggle with this too. Until recently we tended to rehearse until about 10.30ish, and I’d be home about 11, but it was always difficult to sleep afterwards, and after a gig I’d be in around 1am, but wouldn’t be asleep until 2.30/3am. I generally have to sit down, maybe watch some tv or read a book for half an hour or so. I think it’s in part the adrenaline from performing, and then the quite stressful load outs too. -

So, let me get this right: you come on and ask for a (free?) transcription? And when you don’t get it you flounce off? Is that about right? -
That’s actually what I was looking for, but I’m going to have both on there and use them in the alternative!

I bought one off here after posting a thread seeking advice on an always on drive. I’d tend to echo that it’s quite trebly - Ive played with it and it’s great for a pick style clank but I’m going to try a TC Mojomojo on my board as an alternative. There’s another thread on here seeking advice on a mod called a bread and butter mod which looks to add low end. Unfortunately it looks like the company that did it doesn’t any more, but someone else might be able to do it.

I hadn't seen those flip finishes of Dood's before - may I just say "phwoar"? Love those (though they do slightly remind me of the old Nissan Primera saloons that had limited ed flip paint..

Public liability insurance recommendations please.
Jakester replied to Painy's topic in General Discussion
Well, I've never had to test it but having dealt with public liability claims over the years as part of my job, I would have thought that any claims would probably go against the band as a whole, or the individual that did the act/caused the problem. Usually personal injury claims etc tend to go after the person with the money anyway. Oh, and course, it was the [insured band member] who forgot to tape the cables down that they tripped over anyway, wasn't it? Ahem.
