1.
My standard reply is that I wish other manufacturers had the wit, imagination and enough ideas not to just use old Fender designs. There are endless other shapes they could dream up, but no - another P bass or Jazz bass design turns up every few weeks. Pointless. If I want a Pbass shaped bass, it will be a Fender (or even a Squier). Anything else is just a copy, whether it's more expensive or not, and doesn't really interest me at all. ...
But as was pointed out earlier, Fenders (and Squiers) are just copies too. It just so happens that the company currently making them bought the rights to reproduce them before anyone else did.
  2. You'll find out if it's genius or not when the horns fall off at the slightest of bit of pressure.
  3.
This ......
Brilliant.
  4.
I'm afraid the uploader isn't working for me, but Google Spector Legend 6 Holoflash! Looking for £750
Yeah the site's a bit rubbish just now (we've just had a reworking of the forum software). You are best to host your pics in Photobucket or whatever then link them here. Welcome btw.

  6. He plays that BASScentre blockhead thing these days doesn't he?
  7.
Whats a super P? Surely if such a thing exists it defeats the purpose or at least the touted purpose of P users worldwide.
Well it would have to have more than 21 frets for a start.
  8. You want something a bit different, have you considered Delano's Xtenders?

    Here you go bud.
  10. It happens with very old pickups as the windings loosen off and vibrations of the pickup (rather than metal objects around it) can be amplified. Most modern pups won't do this as they are treated with wax or resin to prevent it the winds from vibrating. Some old pups were designed to operate like this. I remember years ago having a crappy old pup that you could actually shout into and the amp would amplify your muffled voice.
  11. Good question. Who is it has that Pingray again? Oh yeah me.

  14. Sounds like you may have a linear pot for a volume control when you should have a Logarithmic pot.
  15.
... "is there a need to actually improve on a decent Fender?"
Where are you going to find one of them? jk
  16. Nice score.
  17.
The worst culprits are FMIC! They even have the nerve to put the Fender logo on their copies! All they really did was buy the rights to the instruments from CBS who bought them from the real Fender. What have they got to do with the originals? Nought! They didn't even make Fenders in the goddamn US of A for a few years but they called these guitars made in Japan Fenders! How does that work? The original Fenders stopped being made once Leo and George buggered off, everything else is a copy. And another thing, Team Lotus my hole! I thank you
18.
you got a website for osprey guitars?
Not yet but Ewan's on the case.
  19.
...I am just pointing out that they are showing a lack of imagination - whether they are top craftsmen or not. There is absolutely no excuse for copying a scratchplate exactly - let alone all of the other bits. Make your own fresh design ...... or if you can't, and you're skills are in woodcraft, then team up with proper designer who can do that with you. I just wouldn't feel comfortable standing there playing a copied design. However much "better" it is than the original.
The thing is most of these guys will have designs of their own, you just don't get to see them as they are deemed risky (because of what needs to be changed in the production line) or unmarketable because of the fact that the buyers and the retailers only want popular designs. If you want something unique go to a luthier and work out something together and get him to build it for you.
  20.
Surprised you missed it!
I know but strange as it may seem, I don't come into this bit of the forum much.

  22.
That joke was paltry.
At least he's thinking out of the bawks.
  23.
.... Maybe the quality took a hit...as many 70's basses might attest....
Luckily no one on BC landed one of those ones, they all seem to have bagged the exception to the rule... especially now they are vintage.
  24. I actually don't mind the chicken heads. However ....
I would like to draw your attention to the following......
In order to direct you away from the shocking defret job.
