A pretty honest description and yet they keep on bidding. I bet they think they are the only ones to have figured out what the "body of unknown origin" is.
So obviously it isn't a bass guitar...
Totally. It needs one more string for a start.

How do you measure string height ?
Ou7shined replied to essexbasscat's topic in Repairs and Technical
I've never quite understood why people feel the need to measure the string height. The fact is, you can set a bass up using measurements, and it'll still play like a bag of crap. There are far too many variables in a bass neck to be able to successfully measure it that accurately; the fact it's made from wood and despite being quality, well seasoned wood, and being reinforced by a truss rod, it is still susceptible to climate change and will move and twist ever so slightly. Factor in the frets too; fret wear, some of them may lift ever so slightly over time, etc, etc, and you get the picture. When I worked in one guitar shop, we had a top of the range, Prestige Ibanez RG which was ordered in for a customer and had to be sent back twice because it buzzed so badly and even choked some of the notes higher up the fretboard. I spoke to the technician on the phone who said; "I don't understand it, I've set it up twice and the measurements are spot on!" IMHO, the only way to get the best out of a bass is to set it up intuitively. Play it, see how it feels, and keep taking the string height down until you get a bit of buzz and then tweak it back up a little. Some seem to set up better with a slight relief in the neck, others seem to take a better set up with the neck almost dead straight. This is all just IME and IMO of course.
I know what you mean, however.... I set up a bass/guitar with the lowest action attainable. I do that because that's how I like it and it also lets me know where the tolerances are on a specific neck. The need to know specific heights comes in when your customer prefers it set in a specific way... which is cool as long as it is over the minimum of what the neck can offer. -
Looks like it might have been smuggled through customs... rectally.
....... anyway, i shall see if i can arrange transport nearer the time rather concerned i'd be letting you gays take my bass bash virginity though
On a more serious note, I believe there are 2 cars going down from Aberdeen and one may have a spare seat (unconfirmed). Oh and Mike is a gentle lover so you'll be fine.
look, you both are! There, someone had to say it .......
No, you are.

Unhappy with the J pickup in my P/J bass
Ou7shined replied to Noisyjon's topic in Accessories and Misc
Do whatever makes it sound the best... ie just swap out both pups for Nordys. You could try shielding out the offending pup first though which might save a few bob. -
....I am now very concerned that the Village People or G.Michael will be attending this along with the Loving Spoonful Dave
Well as long they take a bass* to talk about then they'll be most welcome. Just nobody take a lift off Michael if he offers. *or an amp, or a cab, or a pedal, or an over developed sense of bass geekery...
Hmmmm, Tried to run the update just now. Nothing happened and now my pedal is dead. Arse! I've emailed TC to see if they have any advice...
Holy crap! I haven't done mine yet. Keep us updated.
If you buy one then you instantly play like this
Wow thanks for that. It totally wasn't what I expected was going to happen... really enjoyed the fiddle too.

I think the moral is, don't buy stings in dribs and drabs, get a full set at a time then there won't be any confusion.

If it were me, going for an invisible repair I'd remove an even strip between the frets and glue in a new strip of r/w. If you weren't worried about hiding it you could always try some dark wood filler - perhaps drill some tiny holes and put some tooth-picks in them first to support the filler and help keep it in place.
I have done several times, only to be told that my IT is the problem. The feedback above was constructive.
I've managed to combat a lot of the problems by clicking the compatibility button at the top of the browser. Have you tried that yet man?
-
Basschat used to be a simple and effective place. I've pretty much given up with it now; the site doesn't work all that often for me, and apparently the reason for this reduced functionality is that we've been 'upgraded' to this type of nonsense
Sad but true.
brilliant, I'd never heard that part. The modern world is two lambs and a lion voting on what's for dinner...only the USA gives the lion a gun. ...
But keeps an assault rifle and an unmanned drone for itself.
Basschat is just loads of lions with guns
Or lambs in wolves clothing... well it is the internet.
Democracy? Two lions and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.
I looked up the original quote and there's more.... A Republic is two lions and a lamb voting on what's for dinner..... only the lamb has a gun.
I have just proposed a public vote to be open this wekend. I'll announce it nearer the time but we'll let you vote three ways; rep system, like only, or nothing. Seems like the fairest way to do it! Plan is to post it up on Fri night for the weekend. Cheers ped
Pretty good plan Ped. Although you missed out the "hate only" option... you know for those moments when you want to avoid getting drawn into arguments but need to get make a stand by anonymously clicking a little down arrow button.

Good luck bud.
Well, it can, and does happen. I found this in John Entwistle's loft. Anybody interested at £4,000?
-
There is a odd loophole here though, because the ebay forum tells you to stick your own ebay auction link in here, which then wants a price- should that be the price that the ebay auction is at now? or later? or that the guy wants for the bass, or that price minus ebay fees....
I can't really add anything more than what the guys have already mentioned - it's only bothersome if you let it be. Simply stick it up for a price you'd be happy to sell it on to a fellow basschatter for.
