1. Good luck man. But don't go counting your chickens just yet.
  2.
If his customers like his work and he can make money out of it then good luck to him. I just wish he had a better eye for detail and didn't present instruments as something they are not. I am a fully sworn Squier lover, people should be proud to display the Squier logo. Having looked at the pictures again, I think he has even applied a fake Fender serial number- that is just w***.
Don't forget the CS logo too.
  3.
sh*tt*rs this is brilliant I dont know what side Im on anymore.
Glad you saw the funny side. Props to you.
Build diaries thread coming soon then?
I don't do the build diary thing but I'll give you all a right good gander once she's done like.

Sweet as. I'm currently making a replica with the same colour scheme.
  6.
....I can deliver door to door 100 mile radius for £25.... further afield for a little extra to cover fuel.....
You should have a look into courier prices, you may be pleasantly surprised.
  7.
Shippers is a well respected and supportive veteran of the Swansea music scene. He has aged a couple of parts for my Jazz Road Worn and I was delighted with his work. While I was there he showed me some of the relics he was working on and to my eye they were very good. From our brief meeting he enjoys his work enormously and takes great pride in doing the best he can. His customers love what he does.
You'll shìt twinkies if ever you see a real luthier operation then. As for the quality of his work? Well, the pictures speak volumes my friend. Have a look at this guy -> www.bravewoodguitars.co.uk/PandJbasspage.html Still think that Shìtters is doing a good job?
  8.
..... The price is worth getting excited about but there seems to be a lot of interest.
There's plenty of time for the price to go up. Although as always, it will end cheaper than it would have done over here.
  9. Here you go, these are identical to mine. Mine are in much better condition, although obviously more cream [s]dis[/s]coloured.
  10.
Same here, Nothing a few bits of thick card didnt cure though. One day I'll make up a piece of hardwood to shim it properly... and give it a paint job. Although I been thinking that for about 5 years now. But dozens of gigs later and it still sounds fine to me. I thought the pocket was deeper because it had been hacked out - butchered more like - by the previous owner. Intonations OK, although the bridge is adjusted a bit further back than usual. Pockets around the same length as my MIM Precision looking at them side by side. I'll have a look and see if I can find the pups that were with it, doubt if they are Dimarzio though, sounded really weedy with them on.
I honestly don't think we have the same bass mate. If you look at where your upper horn starts at the neck, it's somewhere in the 16th fret. Mine starts at the 15th. Also both your horns are finer and more pointy, mine are thick and round. The p/gs are very close indeed it has to be said but as you see yours has a neat fit inside the lower horn while mine doesn't follow the lower line very well.
  11.
I've got to admit, I thought 'Hondo' when I saw it. I seem to remember Jon saying that Hondo were knocking out some good quality basses in the early eighties. If I didn't dream it, it'll probably be buried in this thread somewhere. I do remember him saying that there were DiMarzio copies about though, so despite the hex adjustable pole pieces they might not be the real McCoy. I've got an old DiMarzio P pickup knocking about somewhere, so if you want something to compare yours to I'll dig it out.
Yeah that would be cool. I'm fairly sure they are real though. They have the exact same coloured wires as a set of DiMarzio J's I have here and they also look from the rear to be constructed identically to a set of Schaller PBX's (DiMarzios in a different guise) P bass pups I have too.
  12.
Beat me too it!
You've got to get up pretty early in the [s]morning[/s] evening....
  13. I doubt if a Fender-a-like neck will fit mine as the pocket is very long (top horn starts on the 15th fret) and it's a few mil deeper than a standard fit heel. The unusual dimensions says to me that it is indeed the original neck. Been playing Blondie at every opertunity today, she's a real gem. And the best thing is... I'm getting some luthiery jobs off the seller too, so I'll be getting my money back anyway.
  14. Keep an eye out for a second hand G&L L-2000 tribute.
  15. Looks more like a Sabre.
  16.
Can't find a price, how much?
Well it says £15 posted. ... but I'm guessing a zero has been missed off the end.
  17.
actually why am I defending this guy he could have 10 altar boys in his basement for all I know. I take it all back , "lets Lynch him boys". although the bible does say "Let he who has not relicd cast the sander". Or something like that.
Hahaha
  18. The point of this thread is not to out a fraudster... although his defenders seem to think it is. This thread is all about a very very shyte relic job and the fact that the seller is advertising it as something to be proud of.
  19. Never build a guitar while on 'shrooms.
  20.
Hondos are odd, some of them are really nice well made things, others are bits of plywood sh*te, I have had bolt on manky Les Paul copies made of ply, and I at one point had a lovely mahogany set-neck one. Bloody brilliant it was, shame I moved it on. (both had the excellent DI-Marzios though).
Ah well maybe it is then. Any idea why there's no decal? I'm positive one's not been removed as the lacquer is deep and even and totally original looking. Having a few 80's basses in my collection my gut feeling is that this is a 70's bass. Did Hondo ship out there 70's basses decal-less and have them added in the US?
  21.
The DI-Marzios, if original, would point to the mighty Hondo 2 series, which used Di-Marzios as standard in the early 80s.
Good call. I have a rare Hondo II J and yes there is a similarity in the bulky feel of the two basses. The J has a full headstock decal and those cheaper round ended pups though. Blondie is obviously a far superior bass. The one piece ash body is gorgeous and reminds me very much of my natural finish Stingray (except it is a 2 piece) and the fit & finish is of a similar standard too - although somewhat let down by some of the hardware. The nut is a horrible fat plastic thing, halfway between a Gibbo nut and a Fender one. I'm going to make a nice bone one for her.
  22.
With special attention to http://www.liutaiomottola.com/myth/perception.htm since we bass players tend to conflate tension with compliance...
Wow thanks for the link. I already knew the difference between tension and compliance but the part about the difference between a locking nut say, and an extended string was very well explained.
  23. You might get more interest if you actually post your pics here mate. (host them elsewhere but link them here) Welcome to the forum.
  24. Krinks approached me to act as middleman between him and a Basschater here in Aberdeen who was not up for posting a bass he had for sale to mainland Europe. I agreed and acted on his behalf to settle a price exclusive of P&P, which I would calculate and add on later. It was tough going as Krinks wouldn't answer PMs for days on end but would then suddenly appear again overflowing with enthusiasm. In the end I was able to agree a price with the seller (himself a tough guy to deal with) and we agreed for me to pick up the bass at the sellers address. I informed Krinks of the plans and the purchase price (less than he'd budget for) adding the cost for me to ship to his address in Germany... unfortunately that was the last contact I ever heard with him. By this time I'd had enough and I didn't pursue it any further and a few days later the bass sold anyway. It would seem that I had put myself out for nothing... as all the time he had been negotiating the above deal along with enquiries on other basses I since found out about.
  25. It looks like it's peeking out at you from behind the cloth. edit : pic added
