1.
You thinking of a replacement for your ampeg rig danny?
Yes, indeed I am! I'm going for the one cab setup, full range with either 10's or 12's. I'm thinking the 4x12 or the 6x10, I've heard great reviews of both so it's really hard to decide without trying them out! I'm looking for warmth and bass as much as punch - I may have to use the cab to hold down the low end for some gigs where I won't go through the PA, so low end is a must. The cabs definitely have impressive ratings for both RMS wattage and frequency spectrum though. Cheers for all the advice guys, it's cleared up things a bit for me! Now - to the bank! Danny
2. Another simply stunning example of a bass! This is how they should look IMO! May you have many happy years of playing it! After which you'll sell it to me at a knockdown rate, as you have played it for so many years and have subsequently felt like a change.
3. Great to see the change of basses over the years - I too remember the days when you had the Spectors! A lovely selection of basses nonetheless, and now that you have the benefit of retrospect you'll be able to give us lads a lot more recommendations than your average BCer I'm sure! Great porn, and good to see you around again mate, Danny
4. Some of them are for the string mutes, aren't they? Someone has definitely added some extra ones too over the years though.
5. Simple really! What's the difference between these two companies? There are two seperate websites, two seperate brand logos, and yet all the cabinets are similar, and with similar brand names. The contact address for both companies is also exactly the same. I know we have users of both brands on this forum, so can anyone fill me in? Cheers! Danny
6. Band: Camel - The Snow Goose Bassist: Douglas Ferguson I've been listening to this album constantly over the last fortnight - classic progressive rock! Hard to go wrong when you're a rock band with a flute player really. Rhayader and Rhayader Goes To Town form an epic combination of songs - a really great listen.
7. Quote from the auction - "The body was also refinished in natural at that time" Still a cracking bass nonetheless!
8.
John Myung again? think I'll give this issue a miss, like the last one.
+1. Articles about Myung really don't interest me, much like his playing. Each to his own though I suppose!
9.
the fingering is not as you would normally expect... he tends to stay down on the E and A strings and moves around a lot on those two
I've noticed this with quite a lot of blues bass players - it doesn't really seem economical at all, given that you have to move positions a lot more? Always wondered why people do this instead of playing the D and G strings to reach the notes they desire.
10.
Really, he should have applied another coat in the autumn.. The frost has got at it terrible and I'm sure the sun will do further damage.
Ah yes, but Cuprinol is guaranteed for 12 months per application - I think he should really return it to his local Homebase as it obviously doesn't do what it says on the tin.
11. Another great, underrated player. As you say, Blues does have a lot of repetitive patterns that even the best players employ, but he does manage to keep it interesting and fresh in each line he plays. Also works really well with the drummer (Chris Layton?) to create a great rhythm section. Certainly not the easiest position to fill, standing behind SRV and laying down the rhythm, but they both do it brilliantly.
12.
In fairness the SII is vastly inferior in appearance to the SI and that does it no favours at all!
In your opinion. In mine, the SSII is a beautiful instrument! Such a shame that it had to be butchered in the way that it was.

14.
nice, and beleive it or not until today i hadn't heard any Rush songs before, boy have i been missing out. now i just wanna go and learn YYZ, anyone got any tabs for that?
There are a couple of good ones on the usual tab sites, UG and the like. Good luck learning it by the way, it's quite a hectic bassline
15. And JUST before I decided to sell mine! Oh well
16.
what's this ampeg simulator? it's the speeding up/slowing down mp3s that i'd be interested in
It's the Ampeg SVX
17.

Grrrrr.....I so damn envious of both your rig and photography skills! (more the rig though )
18. Equip the room with the best quality gear that you can afford - that way, you'll be the best practice room around and no one will even think about starting their own to compete with you. If they do, you have the best equipment! I'd also make all the bands who want to practice there sign a contract saying that if they break any equipment, they'll pay for it. You are, after all, providing them with a service, and so being business-like in your actions will not hurt.
19. Hello all, Basically, I've been using my Hartke combo with a pair of headphones to practice quietly at my house for the last year or so. However, the combo is quite bulky for me to have in the living room at all times, so I'm looking for a portable replacement. What do you guys use? I could play the bass unplugged obviously, but I like the idea of wearing headphones for a bit more volume. So...any suggestions? Cheers in advance, Danny
20. I don't think writing a bassline is considered as a songwriting credit. I *think* that it's only the sequence, melody and lyrics that are covered by copyright. A lot of session players are paid set fees which are agreed before a single note is played, so maybe you should talk it over with whoever is organising the session to see if you can reach some sort of agreement?
21.
Do you guys think that the different speaker options will make enough of a difference with a 100watt combo to be worthy of consideration? It strikes me that a 1x12 will naturally be more portable, but a 2x10 will offer a clearer / crisper sound?
Those are the two main advantages of each really, you may find that the 2x10 will appear louder as the two speakers are handling smaller loads and spreading the sound more evenly. The 1x12 may have an increased midrange though, and you may find that it cuts through better in a live situation.
22. Linky Linky As OG says, the review in BP Mag was also very good, I think Ed Friedland did it too.
23. Amazing! Loved every minute of it!
