You LUCKY LUCKY man! I'd absolutely love to play a gig with a Who tribute band. You'll have a great time of it, their music is so energetic when played live. I suggest you take a look at some of their live videos on Youtube etc, from the Isle Of Wight Festival, Woodstock etc etc, that'll give you an idea of the pure power of the music you'll be playing. I love The Who. That performance of WGFA is (in my opinion) one of the greatest rock songs performed by one of the greatest bands ever. And the bass playing is just phenomenal! Of course everyone is entitled to their opinions, I know there are a hell of a lot of Who fans on here who'd agree with my 2 cents!

Which mic are you using? Is the pickup pattern cardioid, supercardioid or something else? It's quite possible that if you place the wedge directly in front of the microphone stand that the mic will pick up some of the monitor feed. I know this has been the case for me in the past when using supercardioids, as the pickup pattern was as below: Is this of any help? Apart from that I can only really suggest a problem with a cable somewhere along the line, or perhaps the monitors themselves are to blame? Danny

I've played support to The Drifters ('There Goes My Baby', 'Under The Boardwalk' etc). Nice guys, great voices! I've also played with the original members of Folk Rock band Horslips. That's my 2 cents!

I'm not sure it would be as resonant or robust as a body made from say Alder or Ash, but if it sounds good to your ears - then it's a good tonewood!

I'm pretty sure someone on here owns a H+S bass actually. I looked at them myself, they certainly seem very good value even if they are just planks of wood - if you don't like it you could always use the parts for a custom job as you say!

You can buy a non-Fender bridge cover that fits over a BadAssII bridge comfortably, they used to sell it on basspartsresource.com but it appears that they don't stock it anymore. Perhaps worth investigating? I'm not sure of the manufacturer but I know they're definitely for sale out there somewhere!

Some great advice in this thread guys! I've been contemplating swapping out the MECs in my Warwick for something a little different, although the sound I get at the moment is pretty good ever since I put a set of flatwounds on. I think that the stock setup of most Warwicks leads to a very middle-y sound (growl if you will). Normally a little bass boost on the preamp fills out the sound to my desired level.

This makes me ILL watching it! They are SO good!

I use Dunlop Tortex 0.73mm picks, they do the job just fine! I just played a full show using a pick for the first time last week and didn't have any problems with it. The sound was great!

After struggling with my EQ set up for a few months in my band, I've reverted to setting my EQ on bass and amp totally flat. I'm not sure what it is, but it seems to sound the best!

I'm also very interested to hear people's opinions on this - I was thinking of upgrading the preamp and pickups on my '97 Stage II to get a bit more oomph out of what is already a great bass. Did the EMG's make much of a difference on your Stage II, warwickhunt? They'd be my preferred pickup if I ever did upgrade I think. Cheers!

I'm 20 and play only 4 stringers I'm quite a busy player but always have groove at the forefront of my mind. My role model is John Entwistle, specifically from 1965 to 1978, as I don't care much for his style or tone from the 80's onwards (all that tapping and synthy stuff) I like to think I'm quite a melodic player too and know my fair share of music theory to this effect! So....that's me really!

I'd just advice playing with the tone knob on your P up full, and with a lot of high mids and treble on the amp. That punky tone is all about the high end, and it's really hard to beat a Precision Bass to replicate it.
