  1. [quote name='whizzzy' timestamp='1455975545' post='2984135']...more photos. There are plenty more available as I'm having problems with uploading more.... [/quote] Try this, to delete attachments no longer required, and liberate quota space..? Go to your 'My Profile' (your pseudo, top right...). Select 'Edit my Profile' (black button a bit below...). Select 'Manage Attachments' (in the list on the left...). They are listed in date order. Navigate to oldest, select those to be deleted (tick boxes on the right...). Select 'Delete Selected' (grey button at bottom right of list...). Repeat, page by page, until all unwanted attachments are deleted. Using the BBCode link supplied by an external photo account such as Imgur is a good idea; the photos are better presented and it uses no BC server space. I use Imgur (it's free...); here's what it looks like (the correct link for Basschat is in green...) ... Other image hosting sites are similar, I believe (assuming use of a PC; I know nothing of other devices...). Hope this helps...
  2. [quote name='charic' timestamp='1457075665' post='2994992'] Other than the IEM kit itself what else is needed? How do you go about sorting the mix?... [/quote] The ideal situation is a console or system capable of feeding each iem set with their own, individual mix. Standard 'old-school' consoles won't have enough Aux channels for that, typically, so one would have to either compromise on flexibility and agree to 'share' an iem mix (fight it out between yourselves as to what's in the mix, and at what level...), or change for a more modern console, typically digital, these days. 6 or more Aux sends are available with the new gear, and there are many other advantages at the same time, but it's a different approach, and requires some investment, offset slightly by a sale, perhaps, of the old console..? Is it worth it..? That depends on so many factors, specific to each band, to be answered with a simple phrase, but if there's any upgrade anywhere in the present PA system, it's worth at least considering whilst you're at it. It's a major re-think, in any case, not just a light gadget to add on to an existing set-up, I reckon. Just my tuppence-worth.
  3. Go Mornats..! Excellent initiative; a real boost for the Challenge..! Record number of entrants, maybe..? Go for it, folks..!
  4. Offers and trade propositions are to be made by Private Message (PM...) only, such posts in an ad are systematically deleted; the offending post here is no longer visible for this reason.. Thanks in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

  6. Oh, sorry; how remiss of me. Yes, bagpipes, whilst being technically permissible, are frowned upon by real musicians, and considered unsuitable for human ears. OK, I can hear you already, suggesting that that last part may not concern bass players; you may be right, but some of therm are bigger than me, so I'll refrain from continuing that tack Having said that, I'll admit to having succeeded in slipping a whole skirl of bagpipes (well, 3 zukras, A Libyan instrument, see below...) ...into a piece presented in a previous month's Challenge... [url="https://soundcloud.com/dad3353/elegy-written-for-an-allergic-stump"]Elegy Written For An Allergic Stump ...[/url] ...and think I got away with it, incredibly finishing joint third; maybe I was just lucky..? So, bagpipes are OK..? No, no, good sir (or madam, as the case may be...); the use of Northumbrian smallpipes may be tolerable, but no more, Uillean pipes may have a place in the musical world, but Highland pipes..? Insist if you will, try your luck, compose using whatever takes your fancy, but be aware that the remains of the last contender with such ideas has still not been pieced together by the finest forensic experts of Chichester. Hoping that this clarifies matters; I'll leave you with the strongest of recommendations... No bagpipes.
  7. [quote name='PaulWarning' timestamp='1457025079' post='2994603']...get our singer to use them, trouble is we don't mic anything up, so not sure how it would work, the singer uses ear plugs and we have to have the monitor loud so he can hear himself [/quote] Not quite OT, but intrigued by this. Can you try out an iem system for the singer, giving him the same mix as his current floor monitor, but with an added ambience mic picking up the rest of the stage..? Any half-decent mic facing rearwards near the front of the stage would do (maybe even clipped to his own mic stand..? He'd get to hear all the band, at any level he needs, plus his own vocals. All you need is a spare mic and a spare channel on the console. No good..? Sounds odd, to me, to wear ear protection and then turn up the monitors; I could be wrong, though. Just sayin'.
  8. [quote name='pfretrock' timestamp='1457021385' post='2994555'] Curiously (or perhaps not), loudness depends on the velocity of the string motion, not the displacement . But a greater string movement has to have a greater velocity, so it is sort of related. End of physics lesson [/quote] Possibly, probably, certainly, whatever... The p/up gives out less signal the further one gets from the mid-point. Almost over the bridge (or nut..?) one gets pretty well nowt. In passing, and for the same reasons, a p/up will give a progressively weaker signal the further up the neck one plays. Right at the end of the fingerboard, a neck p/up is not getting much at all..! Is that important, though..? I doubt it.
  9. [quote name='keefbaker' timestamp='1457003456' post='2994336'] Are there any rules for these? For example: must contain bass or must only contain bass? Or is is just a free-for-all write something job? [/quote] These are the Rules, from the 'spoiler' in Skol's first post, above... 11. I've just received a wireless system bought from Karl recently. Posted Tuesday afternoon, delivered (to a remote spot in France..!) on Thursday morning, perfectly packed and complete, as new, plus extra cable connector. Superb outfit, superb sale, with superb communications between us. Thanks, Karl, for the confidence shown; much appreciated. For those reading hoping to learn something about this lad as a Seller, I'd say that he's right up there at the top for serious, pleasant deals. I'll have no hesitation buying from him in the future and recommending him as a Good Egg. There is no higher praise.
  12. [quote name='bassix' timestamp='1456153706' post='2985988']...so take a look... [/quote] Excellent, and very true to genre. Well played, very well recorded and mixed, totally 'in your face'. It's about as far from my 'comfort zone' as one could get, within the confines of the known universe. All three tracks are over in around 7 minutes; The Dead's 'Dark Star' has hardly begun its intro in that time..! Ideally suited to the 'Wham, bam; thank you, ma'am', throwaway pop culture (which doesn't intimate that these are to be thrown away, to be clear...), I'd assume that that was the target. If that's the case, it's, literally, bang on. If you're going for the Sinatra style, it fails somewhat. Congratulations; well done, all involved.
  13. [quote name='Rikki1984' timestamp='1456960362' post='2994135']... Any comments welcome. [/quote] Betterer and betterer... My thumb is up. [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167485]
  14. [quote name='garry warrington' timestamp='1456942867' post='2993880'] why reverse the Jazz pickup and not the P ? do u mean swap the hot for the earth on the pot? [/quote] It doesn't actually matter which one, as there's only two possibilities; they're in phase or they're not. Which ever is easiest to swap, but as you've just done the Jazz soldering, I'd have just swapped them over, unless there's a real problem, such as access or such. Yes, it's simple with a 2-wire p/up, as there's only two joints to re-solder. A bit more tricky with 3- or 4-wire p/ups; I was assuming that's not your case, so... Don't over-think it, just swap 'em over and see if they work better like that. Let us know how you get on, please..?
  15. I used to play weddings and such as a duo (drums, accordion/keys...) here in France. Good money, good ambiance (mostly; some 'instant divorces', but not down to the music...). Late hours, but good fun, and no great hassle at the time. We had a way of finishing off the evening if it was going on for too long: 'In The Court Of The Crimson King' (yes, drums, accordion/keys...), and if that wasn't enough, 'A Saucerful Of Secrets'. Happy daze...
  16. Nice stuff indeed; thanks for posting. Duly noted...
  17. [quote name='garry warrington' timestamp='1456941217' post='2993862']...How can i fix this? [/quote] Reverse the connection for one of the p/ups (The Creamery, as it's the last one in..?). Just switch 'em over and try it out again. 'P' p/ups are often louder, as they're fed by a great string movement. You could lower it a bit, or raise the jazz..? Up to a certain point you just have to live with it. Hope this helps.
  18. [quote name='blue' timestamp='1456937658' post='2993798'] Whether we like country or not band number 2 is the only real established band with gigs and the opportunity to make some money... [/quote] ...which just goes to show that all is entirely dependent upon the outlook of the person reading the ad, as one would expect. Some prefer one, some another... I don't see where this could go, really. What's the [i]real [/i]question..?
  19. Done da deed, dude. There's some good stuff in there, although one wonders if some are, indeed, bass..!
  20. [quote name='oz-bass' timestamp='1456927021' post='2993613'] Uhm, when hooking up two 8 Ohm speakers are they in series or parallel? What i really want to know is if i have to set the amp on 4 Ohm or 16 Ohm? [/quote] In parallel (that's with the two speaker positives together and the two speaker negatives together...), that's a 4 Ohm load, so you'd set the amp to 4 Ohms. In series (that's where one speaker positive goes to the amp, the negative goes to the other speaker's positive, the second speaker's negative back to the amp...), that's a 16 Ohm load, so you'd set the amp to 16 Ohms. If, by 'speaker', you really mean 'cab', as in 'speaker cabinet', then it's the first option (4 Ohms...) that'll apply if each cab is connected to the amp. Never run the amp with no speakers connected, either.

  22. ... But what, exactly, dictates a bass's age..? Years from manufacture..? Hours played..? In any particular style, or just played..? Is a NOS bass good because it's been in its case for 40 years..? Does playing only reggae count towards this ageing process, or is slapping an essential part of tone acquisition..? Once 'refinned', does it all have to be done again (ie, it's all in the paint...), or is the tone retained in the wood..? So many factors...

No-one..? ... OK, then, I'll leave by the back door... ... (But I'll certainly be giving them all a good spin and choosing my favourites..! )
