1.
...here's a quick excerpt from something I'm working on...
Far too busy..! (... and welcome back to the '80s, a most awful period I'd rather forget..! ) ...
 2.
... Where are you based Douglas?
There's a clue in my User name: '33' is France, '53' is Mayenne, halfway between Le Mans and Rennes. Pop in for a cup of tea if you're in the region.
 3. Above a certain size stage, what with the lights and the distances involved, it's often difficult to see the audience at all..! The only way you'll know they're there is when the roar goes up at your entrance, and the thunderous applause at the end of the opening number. Once that's over, no need for nerves any more; they're already 'in your hand'. Enjoy; have a blast. Photos, videos ('bear' dancing or not...) are de rigueur, of course.
 4.
... The only "contract" is an agreement on an e-mail detailing the date and the fee...
Such a 'contract' is worth less than a screenprint, I'd say, relying solely on good faith on both parties to be honoured. Only a mutually-signed document setting out all the relevant conditions (including retraction or cancellation terms...) would have any chance of redress, hence the benefit of using the MU standard contracts, at least as a starting point. Is it worth the hassle..? That depends on much on your part, as well as that of the venue. I doubt that the venue concerned here is worth pursuing, personally.
 5.
JRRShop have Miroslav Philharmonik CE for $49.99...
Follow-up, having acquired and installed this... All the pain in the world to (finally...) understand how to actually trigger the download, after having to install an all-new Authorisation Manager for IK MultiMedia stuff. Once installed, this triggered a whole set of 'freebies' that I didn't ask for, such as AmpliTube, SampleTank 2.5 and more, plus a few 'Stores' (now what in the world could they be for, I wonder..? ), but still no actual sounds. These have to be downloaded separately. Finally, it all came together, and I was able to play some stuff. First thing to try was the old version 1 sounds. Deception. They are very incomplete (there are some, but not at all the variety, nor the same richness as the old version...). Hmm... How about the new sounds, then..? Deception, too; this is a 'lightweight' version, don't forget, and, although the sounds are very good (I liked the oboes, for instance...), there is, again, a much lesser choice compared to Phil. 1. Almost no percussion, for instance, a big blow for me, a drummer..! Never mind, I still have Phil 1, don't I..? Well, no, it won't run any more..! Damn and blast..! Much perusal of t'web, much register cleaning and (light...) swearing at IK Multimedia (despite their having helped me get through the authorisation process...), I finally found the key. It would appear that these products need to run in Administrator mode, and oblige Reaper to do the same if calling up these Vst's. No big deal for me, once I'd found this out (not from IK, of course..!), and I have now recovered Phil 1 (Phew..!), but it was a scary ride. Yes, the quality of the new sound library is up to scratch, and worth the rather modest expense, but no kudos for making it so blinking difficult for an old duffer such as myself. It's limited (it's a 'CE', 'light' version, so no surprise there...), and would serve well enough for those without the mega-budget of the fuller versions, but I'm not enamoured of the IK way of doing things, and will not be 'upgrading' or adding any of the extras (such as a Percussion library..!), as they're quite too far above my modest, pension, budget. Make what you will of the deal, then; to each their own. No regrets on my part for the purchase, but I would have liked a smoother ride. All is well, now; but I'll still be using Phil 1 for decades to come, though, as it has far more scope, for what I do. Phil 2 I'll ease myself into, gradually, for specific compositions. Hope this helps.
 6.
JRRShop have Miroslav Philharmonik CE for $49.99. Apply the code "GROUP" to get it down to $41.99 (if it doesn't auto-apply it) - quite the bargain! https://www.jrrshop....philharmonik-ce
Damn..! If you'd posted this 24 hours earlier, I'd have saved $8..! The sound libraries are downloading as I type, so can't say, yet, how it sounds, but if it's any improvement at all on Philharmonik 1 (already splendid...), I'll be happy enough.
 7. In the 70's, gigging meant leaving at 11h00 Friday or Saturday, getting back home at 08h00 Monday or Tuesday. When we married, my other half knew this, and was fine with it. We brought up 3 kids. I held a full-time technician job in a music shop, too. I couldn't do it at that pace now, but family life can be fitted in very well, with goodwill all round. How about deep-sea fishermen, away for months, or military bods, away for long spells..? 4-hours gigs..? Bah. Chicken feed. S'nothin', when one's young enough..!
 8.
...you know what it's going to be.
Maybe I had the advantage of never having heard any of the extracts before, with no idea whatsoever as to who it was playing. Yup, an innocent Candide, that's me.
 9.
...could hang a tune on than
Yes, maybe... This is The Master doing it properly... http://youtu.be/ltyjNjsz8UU
 10. So, I'm the rude one, am I..? Well well. OK, I'll leave this topic alone, but Noel Redding was a rated guitarist before joining the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and had a decent enough career as a bassist after that. Not very convincing, though; he's male. Life deals out some tough breaks, sometimes.
 11.
...it'd be good if you only had to listen to each clip in its entirety once rather than every single trial....
I'm not certain, but it seemed to me to be much like the football league, where each extract has to be pitted against each of the others. As, then, there are eight samples, each has to be played seven times (once against each of the others...), so twenty-eight plays in all. A 'league table' can then be drawn up, which would give some idea of 'difficulty'. May be wrong, though.
 12.
What if it turns out that we are all Clown-whores?
And what's wrong with being entertaining..? Some of us are not cut out for being the Arty type, innit..?
 13.
Good. And girl power. What's not to like.
Wow. Hooray. Great. Wunnerful. Sooper. So gender counts for summit, then, in your view..? Hmm...
 14. Done, and not as easy as all that. Enjoyable enough, though. Goodness only knows what use at all can be made of the collated results..! Nice, clear extracts, easy to listen to. One has to read through all of the instructions, and it takes about 15 minutes to go through the lot. Once started, one has to finish; no 'Save and continue later' option. Will we be privy to any results from this study..? It could be enlightening.
 15.

I'm not convinced by any of the comments so far. Maybe Paul McCartney. Otherwise ...... pfffft!

My fault, I suppose, for trying to honestly offer a sincere response to your query. Apologies; it won't happen again.
 16.
...apart from segways...
This is a Segway... The word you're wanting would be 'segue', I think..? Just sayin'.
 17. I'll be out of action for a while very shortly, so I thought I'd get this done whilst I can. Here's a Casady-inspired riff that I use for keeping my fingers from seizing up (s'not working that well this evening..! ). As video seems to be the latest fad, I've shot this with my webcam, one take, no edits (as you'll see..!) directly into VideoPad from my armchair, using our Cort fiver, MM p/up, tones centred. The audio track is raw Reaper, rendered then added to the video. Another one for the Noodle Pot; enjoy.

 19.
... please have a listen & add your comments below...
Quite a lot to listen to, there; I'll admit to not having played 'em all, all of the way through. Excellent playing, very tight for a 'live', one-take effort (I assume that you were all playing together, not recording individually..?). As such, a fine demo of what the band may deliver on stage. Not entirely convinced by the quality of the vocals. He gets away with much, but pitch is an issue a bit too often. It's overcome with sincerity, but it doesn't always work. The mix is fair enough for a one-shot demo; the 'real' BS tracks probably had far more post-production, to bring out individual elements of each song. As it is, your demo has a 'sameness' throughout. That could be considered a Good Thing, though. What's with the compression, though..? Right up to the limit for most tracks. Dynamic suffers as a result (for me...), and the ear is quickly tired by such incessant intensity. I'm aware that it's part of the genre, but still... Altogether a very presentable demo, for which you may (all...) be rightly proud. It stands up quite well to comparison with the originals, in the circumstances. Well done, y'all.
 20. Ordered, now just have to wait for the postman. Hours of listening fun in store..!
 21.
Admirable treasure indeed. Can anyone my age (67) forget first seeing the Hofner bass in Paul McCartney's hands on the Beatles' February 1964 appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show? (And more than a few of us said, "What's that?")
At that age (I, too, am 67...) I'd seen very few basses at all, so wasn't troubled in the slightest. Now if he'd been playing a live adult puma... Nice bass, of course; well worth restoring to its best. Keen to see more as the project progresses; thanks for sharing.
 22.
Isn't it about time we stopped resurrecting this thread and let it slip quietly into memory....?
Quite the opposite, this topic can serve to help others with similar problems. I'm even thinking that 'pinning' it could be envisaged. Anything and everything goes, as long as it keeps logs trouble-free, don't you think..? Another aspect is the grim warning that this carries regarding the impetuous posting of topics without due thought beforehand. Once one's inner self is offered up for general scrutiny, it's very difficult to claw back. Putting genies back into bottles is notoriously difficult. Future posters could benefit from mature reflection before hitting the keyboard.
