  3. [quote name='charic' timestamp='1500552221' post='3338643'] I'll have a look! Can it simulate what a stage would look like too? [/quote] Indeed you can, with structures, drum risers and more. The fixtures (lights...) can be placed anywhere, on flying trusses, or side-lit, footlights, balcony spots etc. There's quite a few pics on the Sunlite site that will give some idea. I found it easy enough to use (and I'm a dummy..! ), although it takes a bit of practise to 'tweak' the results once one arrives at the real venue (setting the Dmx channels, correcting tilt/pan angles, retouching gobos and colours...), but we did some mighty fine shows with the stuff, far better than I could have done on an unfamiliar manual console at the time. Fun, too..! Towards the end, I had a lot of the show on semi-automatic, and could allow the software to run, adding manual touches on top. Happy daze.
  4. [quote name='charic' timestamp='1500526890' post='3338417'] Any way to do this?... [/quote] Yes, using 'Sunlite', see here ... [url="https://www.nicolaudie.com/en/suite1.htm"]Sunlite Suite ...[/url] ... which has a very good 3D visualiser. I used this stuff for several years with Kiemsa, a punk/rock/ska group, programming their lights at home, then spending the week-end with them doing the show with a laptop. There's now a more sophisticated version; both are free to download and use fully; they need the dedicated DMX box to do the real controlling, but work perfectly well for simulation, including stage layout and props. Worth a look..?

    G'day

Good morning, Tom , and ... [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167528] Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. Our youngest (coincidentally also names Tom..!) had expressed an interest in playing bass, a few years ago, but wanted, from the outset, a five-string active bass (I already had 4-stringers, but he wanted his own, so...). We bought him a Cort fiver; shortly afterwards I received as a present from our eldest a fretless 6-string, which Tom immediately adopted, and has played nothing since. He learned fast, and quickly become the 'official' bassist in our pop/rock covers band (I play drums, our eldest guitar, plus two buddies...), playing stuff from Muse, RATM, Deus and much more. The scale length, neck width and lack of frets has not made the slightest difference to his progress; he just went with it and ran, although he's more on the 'slightly-built' side. It can be done, so don't be afraid, just jump in and enjoy the swim. Just my tuppence-worth; hope this helps.
  6. [quote name='blue' timestamp='1500503585' post='3338378'] Thanks Dad... [/quote]
  7. [quote name='blue' timestamp='1500488321' post='3338233']... How do you manage or delete yiur photos photos on BC when you've exceeded the amount of storage space? [/quote] Go to your 'My Profile' (your pseudo, top right...). Select 'Edit my Profile' (black button a bit below...). Select 'Manage Attachments' (in the list on the left...). They are listed in date order. Navigate to oldest, select those to be deleted (tick boxes on the right...). Select 'Delete Selected' (grey button at bottom right of list...). Repeat, page by page, until all unwanted attachments are deleted. Using the BBCode link supplied by an external photo account such as Imgur or Flickr is a good idea, of course; even more so if using higher resolution photos. Your quota limit would never be reached using this method, and the photos are better presented. Just sayin'; that's what I do, and never need to worry about quotas. Hope this helps; meanwhile... Have a nice day Douglas
  8. [quote name='stingrayPete1977' timestamp='1500485760' post='3338209'] If you didn't write them then they are covers... [/quote] ...just like the philharmonic playing Beethoven or Bartok.
  9. [quote name='mac1012' timestamp='1500379534' post='3337287']... Any advice would be great thanks [/quote] Give some idea of your location; that might inspire someone close to you..? Don't be in a hurry; that 's a sure way of making a mistake that you'll regret. Take the time to find your bass. Have a look through the ads in the Marketplace here, there are several good basses in your price bracket... [url="http://basschat.co.uk/forum/19-basses-for-sale/"]BC Marketplace: Basses For Sale ...[/url] ...including short-scale basses. Hope this helps.
  10. Good evening, Paul, and ... [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167528] Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. There's plenty of old fogies here (I'm chasing you closely...), so you're far from alone.
  11. [quote name='lurksalot' timestamp='1500316693' post='3336906'] I'd send you a list but I've just run out of ink........ [/quote] I can do a 'job lot' at mate's rates if you wish..?
  12. [quote name='alyctes' timestamp='1500241839' post='3336479'] There are a couple of things I really value on there, which are not available anywhere else AFAIK. Is there any way of downloading them, legally? [/quote] If you tell me which ones of mine those are, I'll send 'em to you. ...
  13. [quote name='adamg67' timestamp='1500241627' post='3336472'] In the diagram, what's C? I don't care, but I still have to know. [/quote] Middle C, obviously.
  14. [quote name='dmccombe7' timestamp='1500232310' post='3336381']... I'll get my coat... [/quote] Fixed.
  15. [quote name='hiram.k.hackenbacker' timestamp='1500207738' post='3336188'] Sorry Dad... [/quote] You've overlooked the tiny but important word: 'if'... It's just a supposition, and in light of your obvious financial acumen, probably unlikely, but the question remains... Supposing, for fantasy's sake, that a shop was able to fetch, for all sorts of possible reasons, 30% more than [i]any [/i]individual, would you still insist on selling it yourself, thus 'gaining' 20% but 'losing' 30%..? That was the hypothesis. It may be too late for a reply; if so, never mind.
  16. [quote name='hiram.k.hackenbacker' timestamp='1500206351' post='3336180']...I just could not hand over 20% from the sale of one of my basses. [/quote] Not even if the sale fetched 30% more than on your own..?
  17. [quote name='PaulGibsonBass' timestamp='1500158337' post='3336029']...a tone that's just ok, one that I'm fairly happy with, but not one that totally satisfies me... [/quote] I think I'm rather the opposite; it's the tone I have that dictates what and how I'll play. Whatever it is, I'll play to that. It's quite foreign to me to have an elusive idea of what I haven't got, and then try to attain it. Complacence, maybe, or just lucky..?
  18. [quote name='Geek99' timestamp='1500155451' post='3336013'].how to make horse shoes... [/quote] S'easy to recognise a load of old cobblers.
  19. [quote name='blue' timestamp='1500147744' post='3335954'] This thread went all over the place. All I really wanted was a "thumbs up" on my new purple Nikes pictured in my thread introduction. Blue [/quote] Good ol' Brit humour there, Blue. Have a 'Like' on me...
  20. It's the ears that need to become trained to hear correct tuning, whatever method is used. Here's a link to a guitar page explaining several diferent ways, equally applicable to bass. It's worth going over each of these methods, and using more than one method as a 'cross-check'... [url="http://www.wikihow.com/Tune-a-Guitar"]4 Ways To Tune A Guitar ...[/url] None of these methods will give good results if the bass itself is not set up correctly, especially the intonation (meaning having all the notes, all the way up the neck, correct when the open string is correct...). If you're not familiar with this, look it up on t'web, and/or have a chat with a decent guitar or bass tech to get the instrument set up to its best. Hope this helps.
  21. [quote name='Avi14' timestamp='1500136323' post='3335865']... Feedback would be highly appreciated ! [/quote] Good evening, Avi14, and ... [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167528] Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. Good stuff; well done. A word, if I may on tuning: it's important that the bass be in tune, every time, every session, every string. If you've not got a tuner, use tones found on t'web, and check the intonation of the bass. Everything will sound soooooo much better. Just sayin'; bravo for sharing, and keep it up.
  22. [quote name='wateroftyne' timestamp='1500110039' post='3335652'] It's 200w, which should be enough, like the 200w heads of old. After all, watts is watts, right? ;-) [/quote] You wouldn't care to pitch this against our Hiwatt DR205 by any chance..? 200w, 4 x KT88 valves, but, after all, watts is watts, right..?
  23. [quote name='Bigwan' timestamp='1500105175' post='3335606'] What would you buy Dad? [/quote] A difficult one, really, but I think I'd start by looking at what line of inquiry suits my needs with some free, or sample versions, such as the Kontakt Player. There are very many packages that will work, either completely, or for a limited, trial, period with the free Player; that'll give some idea as to suitability. The Kontakt catalogue is vast, but it depends on the direction you wish to explore as to which are a good choice. I'm rather 'loaded' towards orchestral, so products such as Philharmonik are, to me worth every penny; others go for cinematic sounds, or EDM instead. A good sampler is always useful (Tx16Wx is great, imo...), and the Toontracks EZ range are useful, too. EZ Keys, for instance, can create the basis for a whole song (even an album full..!) with simplicity and ease; one may then build upon the base thus formed and 'flesh it out' to one's taste. Enough for now..? Try a few freebies first, and see what direction opens up before you. Go on; surprise yourself. You know it makes sense..!
